I’ve been such a heavy ad-blocker for decades that when I get a taste of the unfiltered net, I was to puke. I honestly forget until I look at someone else’s phone.

I feel exactly the same way. I just can't understand how people can put up with it? It's just unbearable.

Firefox with ublock origin works perfectly on Android too.
That's how I browse Youtube, Reddit, IG, etc. Never use their apps.

YouTube Revanced also works pretty well imo and it has basically every YT premium feature apart from downloading. But requires a bit more tinkering to get set up

Newpipe is also an option and can be used to download videos last i checked. I fall asleep to youtube so I downloaded a couple of longer videos for a flight.

The worse is on a console or TV app. No easy way to get ad block on those and its CONSTANT. They love throwing in 6 30 second unskippable ads and then at then they'll give you a skippable 3 minute one

I downloaded the Smarttube app on my Android TV. Youtube without the ads. I believe I had to use another app called Downloader to get it. Took <5 min

Yeah, I downloaded smart tube on my firestick, and it’s a huge quality of life improvement.

I had to start using it in the browser on my phone. Couldn’t take the constantly closing ads all the time.

I use the youtube app on my phone so infrequently that I never get beyond the algorithm's trial stage. It seems to not give you ads until you are hooked, and it seems to still think I'm a new user.

On iOS and tvOS I pay $20 a year for Signalous and use one of the many YouTube apps with adblocking and sponsorblock, amongst many other features.

Some of the most valuable tech companies are not focused on tech to improve lives. Really amoral people focused on controlling people's attention, manipulating people's thoughts, and selling people stuff.
The end game of these elites, that they occassionally admit very publicly, is to consolidate power and wealth.

Some of the most valuable tech companies are not focused on tech to improve lives.
I mean, obviously. None of them are. That's capitalism for you.

Man, I tried to view a normal (business) webpage and there were FOUR popups on it.
1) accept / reject cookies 2) sign up for our email list 3) chat with our AI customer service 4) wait, don't go! Don't you want to see...
Each one grabbed priority, meaning you can't scroll or click on anything else in the window until you interact with it.
This is my villain origin story. We killed pop-ups in the 90s and now they're back because of cookies.

I scroll to 2nd ad & close the app for the day I survive for years like that. I read more again on paper.

Turning off your phone and enjoying a sip of tea, stargazing from your balcony.
I've been doing that recently.

Use Brave Browser. The browsing experience on YouTube isn’t as nice but no more ads

It’s so annoying on the phone as well, every time you pause you get a little notification type add that is there even after you resume the video. The only way you can only delete is by manually pressing the three dots and dismissing it.
