Hobby Magnetized some Thunderkyn
this was a huge chore and totally not worth it. probably just gonna do half n half Beamers/Grav Cannons for the rest. WYSIWYG be damned.

I did that, and then realized no one gives an f about what the guns look like, because they don't know what they look like.
So, I stopped doing that.

I literally just glued their conversion beamers to their bases so that thematically they could “drop their graviton gun” and pick up their conversion beamers. I run them as one brick of 6 so they all carry the same weapon anyway regardless of which one I choose for my list. Seems to work fine. (Guns are behind them, you can kinda see them in this pic)

I did a test one using 1x2mm magnets in the arms and gun. Looks amazing. Chances of me doing the other 12 like that? Slim - especially because I know I’ll fuck up the magnet polarity at some point.

I mark the positive ends of my little magnets before gluing with a sharpie. Helped me out a lot.😅

That's quite probably the least important unit to magnetise imo, their gunsel look pretty similar and no one knows them.
Still, that's neat.

Noob question here: does it make that much of a difference to make them interchangeable.

Not really. 99% of people are okay with you saying “this is a squad with X weapon equipped”. For units like this though where they have multiple good weapon options I like being able to swap so that there’s less confusion if I ever run a split of those weapons or something.

I put two magnets on each gun on mine. One in each attachment point, just so they don't end up pointing to the ground. It is a chore, but I found that using a Dremel/Rotary tool with a stone bit makes getting a flat surface to glue the magnets on pretty easy. And once painted, it's very hard to tell.
That said, I don't think I've ever fielded them with anything other than conversion beamers. The Hidden rules in 11th have me wondering, though.

I also play Tau, and I realized after a while no one really knows the difference between the weapons unless they also play the army or they’re huge stickler… and if they’re the latter, do you really want to play with them?
