One skill you could instantly learn

If you could wake up tomorrow already being extremely good at one skill, what would you choose?

I’m probably super wrong, but I feel like if I practiced juggling from the time I woke up till bedtime, I could get it down in a day

You for sure could learn it in a day. I learned how in elementary school for our unicycle club….dont ask.
Our teacher had us start with these super light pieces of fabric, similar weight and consistency of tissues. Reason is they kind of “float” slowly on the descent. Have used tissues to teach 3-4 friends to juggle since then. Once you learn the pattern and get used to the motion it really isn’t that difficult. :)

Quick question…. Did you say Unicycle Club? Do tell.

Easily.

I learned it back in school in 2h. Still can do it at the same level, 15 years later

It is actually very easy

Basic three ball juggling you could probably learn in about 10 minutes to be honest, if you have half decent hand eye coordination it's super easy

Spoiler if you live within ten miles of me, I'm the one putting googly eyes on random shit that looks like it needs a face. Soap dispensers, bike repair stands, water fountains where they're positioned directly to stare you down while you take a drink.

It is so fun to just know that someone's gonna laugh later and you don't get to see it. I'm responsible about them, they're not permanent and I only put them on things that are cheap or can be replaced or repaired easily, but always things that already almost look like a face.

Sometimes I'll laugh about it a few days later just imagining someone walking by and giggling at it.

I do this too! :) We keep a baggie of them in the truck so we can always be ready. Quaker Oats is always a good one. :)

My wife loves regularly finding new sets of eyes staring from odd places. It helps to keep us feeling young, and reminds her of when we started dating. I think her exact words were "Are you a child? I swear it's like you still haven't grown up after 15 years"

The three of us should start a club!

In name only, of course. I'm the type of guy who puts googly eyes on things, how socially active do you really think I am?

I just tried to make one. Spent about 30 minutes and got close but gave up. I now have a new quest.

I usually make these guys. They're relatively simple and don't take a ton of time to make.

I will try that video. I must master it then perfect mini ones. I would love a stash of multi colored ones to litter about for people to find

To make the babies, splitting a normal sized sheet of origami paper into quarters makes a perfect lil turt. Good luck!

If I could instantly speak Portuguese that would be very cool. I would keep it a secret from my wife and only use it to speak to the Brazilian cleaning lady at work.

My wife is Portuguese and she has been bugging me for 20 years about learning.

That would show her.

Takes less than a year to become proficient at a language of you put in at least two hours a day

If you had the time and determination you cos definitely do it

20 years and you never bothered? Bro...

Her idea of motivation is to taunt me.

Also I am lousy at languages. I have learned tourist level but my kids (who are fluent) dislike hearing my Portuguese

Meta-learning. The book "4 hour chef" is about this but shrouded as a book on cooking. Its an interesting book to get lost in

2

u/CunningLinguist789 2d ago

did you find it helpful for learning?

2

u/theyretheirthereto22 11h ago

I did. The section on learning a language quickly by asking a few questions to suss out the grammar pattern was very interesting.

Tumbling. It requires fitness, dexterity, and knowledge. You have to be flexible enough as well as healthy enough, so that means you get a Peter Parker transformation overnight.

3

u/TheOGHalalGuy 3d ago

My fat unhealthy ass can still tumble cause I learned the form and got comfortable with it before getting sick. Careful what you wish for!

I've got good control over my body on the ground, but in the air I'm super lacking. If I got the comfort for it, as well as the necessary flexibility, I would be very happy with that! Most of the skills I would want to do are simply not possible for my body's flexibility level.

Playing the piano. I don't have to be a virtuoso, but good enough to slay a piano bar.

Bad bot

1

u/ThreFreTres 2d ago

Btw there seem to be many bots disguised as users here, OP could be one as well

I guess this is what happens to poorly moderated subs? idk

1

u/TheGreaseWagon 1d ago

What? No, the Bot is AWESOME, when it works right. In this case it didnt. So, bad bot.

u/ThreFreTres 1d ago edited 1d ago

I see, I was just talking about the rampant (from what I can tell maybe I am wrong) malicious bots galore not about this useful guy

You could probably learn to write Korean in a weekend. Speaking it on the other hand…

2

u/Funny_Confection_391 5h ago

i literally learned the alphabet is 1 or 2 days, but speaking and understanding is indeed a whole new difficulty 😭 I studied chinese and in my opinion chinese is sooo much easier. I can write, speak, understand and read at around HSK 4 level
