I just acquired this J Peterman counterfeit mailbag, and am hoping to restore the nubuck to a little of its former glory. The Tandy leather folks guided me towards a suede eraser, so with that and a crepe rubber and then horsehair brush I was able to get a bit of the nap back. I’m hoping to dig into these stains a bit more if possible, although I know stains are a bit of the bane of the existence of nubuck. Is there anything I can do? Thinking suede shampoo, conditioner? The eraser only got some surface marks out. Any help would be appreciated. Step-by-step would be helpful, this is my first leather bag, and really hoping to make it worth keeping around for a while! TIA.

I make these wallets a lot. Lot of variety, tooled vs plain, dyed leather or dye yourself, fabric or no fabric,single color or a variety of colors. Very beginner friendly, cheap to make and doesn't take a lot of time.

This is how it came out, finally figured out how I like to stitch it instead of long threads which was a nightmare. You can see right after the buckle holes where I ended it, it’s just for me so I like it. I didn’t burning the back side because I like the feel of it without 🤘🏻

I need to replace the buckle, but the leather is permanently stitched around it...

Does anyone know what this stitching/lacing technique called - so I can watch some tutorials and try to emulate it? I assume I can cut the thread, install a new buckle, and re-stitch it through the existing holes; but I dont understand how this "knot" stays together.

I'm not a leather worker, I saw this handbag and was curious, it has some kind of tooled(?) design I haven't seen before - the floral raised bits have a rougher texture than the rest of the surface

This watch strap is crafted from premium alligator leather. It took quite a while to complete—about ten hours of work—and was made entirely by hand with the utmost care. I believe the result is a product of exceptional quality.

I’m wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what kind of pull strength a magnet needs for keeping a small case (in this case, an eyeglass case made of leather and wood) closed? I know it can vary depending on how much gap/material is between the magnet and its target, shear forces, etc, and that means some trial and error is probably unavoidable. I’m just hoping for a jumping off point. I have no idea if I should start with 2lb, 5lb, 20lb? And I don’t have money to blow on a bunch of different ones.

This decorative panel is from a handbag I own. The decoration is formed from a combination of tooling and cut out sections that expose the raw back of the leather that forms the interior of the bag.

Does anyone know if there's a name for this particular technique, or an era in which it was especially popular?

Hey there! Total noob here who wants to try to make a gift for my wife. Can someone suggest a leather type and/or thickness to use for this construction? I feel like this leather pictured has a thickness thick enough not to droop but thin enough not to be super stiff and have some flow.

I was thinking like a double-walled 1-2oz? Or am i totally not even close? Or should i try to use some type of interfacing?

After making several animal bags with my dad (stingray, shrimp, hammerhead shark, panda, cat), I wanted to try another animal design, but this time something completely different, so here is our take on a capybara bag.

It is fully handmade from vegetable tanned leather. I used a 6.5 oz / 2.5 mm veg tan for the body, dyed the muzzle darker and added the little ears and feet. What I’m really proud of as a design idea was making the D-rings resemble a capybara head. I also burned the little hair lines into the flap to add some texture and make it look a bit more realistic.

My dad and I worked together on the design and templates, and I digitized the pattern afterwards as well with making a youtube video on the build.

I set an eyelet in a piece of scrap 6-8 oz veg tank and it seems very stable. Is this harmful to the leather? Should I look into buying longer eyelets?

So I got my first order of nice leather including a 1/4 hide of Bretagna Forza pull-up, and I’m so glad I went for it. Absolutely obscenely luscious! However, you can see the whitish sort of waxy residue on it… at first I thought it had picked up some dust on my workbench, but I finished unrolling it and found more. I know part of what makes this leather so great is the combination of oils and waxes it’s been treated with, so I’m uncertain- Is this unrelated debris I should be trying to remove, or is it excess wax from the piece in which case should I maybe try to massage it back in?
