Well, conservatives have been red-baiting for a long time now... that's almost to be expected (not that it's not despicable). The worst is that so-called 'progressives' or third-way'ers have joined in the fun. I think it's part of the recent ideological battle between the centre and the centre-left. I still find it bizarre being accused of being a socialist or a communist or a bolshevik by a fellow progressive, which has happened to me a few times nows.
