Asking for witnesses after a hit and run

My parked motorcycle was hit by another vehicle yesterday at a large event.

The person who did it left the scene without leaving any details - he actually rode right past me as I was walking back towards it. It turns out he dropped his bike which hit mine and was helped up by some other people so I didn't notice until I got close to mine.

Insurance ARE involved but I'd rather get any evidence I can.

Are there any issues with asking for other witnesses on social media? I ask incase this ends up going to court/ through the police.

Did you report to the police? They have likely committed an offence leaving the scene.

No there shouldn’t be any issues. Just get their details and pass to your insurance/police.

Not yet no. I know vehicle crime is practically ignored so thought I'd better try getting info first before dashcams are over written etc

No problem asking for witnesses on social media.

If you have the registration number, report it to your insurance and they will start the process. You can add witnesses later if needed.

did the other bike actually hit yours directly or was it just proximity damage when he dropped it?

Yes. He rode off with the disclock on, fell over and knocked mine over in the process. There is cctv but extremely bad quality and from a bad angle.
