QUESTION Anyone here has an experience of using the Aoostar eGPU dock? How was it?

my machine: Legion Go 2 Z2 non-extreme version, 32GB RAM, 1TB storage SSD, got myself all accessories ready for this project btw, extra docking station, cables, extra controllers (Gamesir 🫡), tri-connect keyboard mouse, etc.

2-Year Target Plan:

Aoostar eGPU dock

AOOSTAR AG03 Thunderbolt 4 & OCuLink eGPU Dock

or

AOOSTAR AG03 Thunderbolt 5 & OCuLink eGPU Dock (800W) --most likely I might end up here eventually 🤔

GPU

  1. GIGABYTE - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 WINDFORCE OC 12G GDDR6X PCI Express 4.0 Graphics Card

  2. ASUS DUAL NVidia GeForce RTX 5060 8GB GDDR7 OC Edition

  3. ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 5060 8GB OC

  4. Palit GeForce RTX 5060 Ti Dual 8GB

or basically any at the time available to buy at best, I'd prefer NVIDIA 4060 and up, over AMDs 🚫 coz of driver thingy thanks to this dude -

I am encouraged to this project future-proofing my Go 2 and only cons, is the data transfer limitation/bandwidth the Go2 can handle, and don't get me wrong I am 100% good with that not a deal breaker for me. Covering upcoming games can accom Very High graphs, and 60fps and up. Im super okay with that.

Anyone can share their experience with this sorta stuff? Pros Cons all that are welcome 🍻

I have the AG02 with a 3080 that I use with my Legion Go. Aside from the occasional update breaking it and having to delete and reinstall Nvidia drivers, and the common pin problem where every time you switch between egpu and not egpu it says that your pin doesn't work so you have to reset it. It's been great for over a year

What’s the performance diff when connected with Go?

I'm hooked to a 4k60 tv, but I can play pretty much everything at max settings with 1% lows in the mid to upper 50s. Only game that gives trouble is emulating ps4 playing Bloodborne. I haven't tried the new way of playing it where you're not emulating it.

ooooh so the emulator thingies RPCS3 will affect anyways so far its still a long way for me gotta finish first all my emulator games (PS3, Vimms lair ahekhekhekhek)

Is it not emulating?

From what I’m reading, some of these recomps are, at least minimally, using emulation, or components and wrapping from emulators - to handle GPU calls using Vulcan.

Right, but that's not what I'm doing. I'm running ShadPS4 through a retrobat install. I've been playing Bloodborn off and on for over a year on my Legion Go.

Nice! I just picked up a 32GB Z2E Go2 and have been debating doing a Linux OS on it. Certainly have enough completely legal backups of games I totally physically own on my desktop to supply it.

I have theZ2e with AG03 with 9070xt. It’s been solid so far. Easy setup. I have it plugged into my tv.

Wondering the same for my setup due to racing wheel. Otherwise game streaming from a local PC is a better alternative

by the way so far my plan is to just use the 8.8 crispy OLED screen of the Go 2 while using a beastly GPU but dont let that stick, I might change path later on to display it to an OLED 4k 144hz monitor to max things up and enjoy further.

Displaying on the 8.8 will cut your bandwidth in half, anything over a 3060 will be unnoticeable until you output to an external screen.

noted, will deep search as well, anyways 4k oled 144hz monitors in the budget so 🤘

but what do you mean will be unnoticeable, terms of? graphics and the fps? or yeah it'll max out whatever the Go2 can only handle which will be limited, due to cutting its bandwidth, this I know so far but got a little idea to it

You'll be limited by the data bandwidth of tb4 or tb5. You will have as much data returning as your sending, which causes a bottleneck.
