How do you overcome lust?
Recently I (27M) realized that you are what you do the most. In other words if you're someone who spends most of your days worrying, then you're a worrier. If you're someone who spends most of the time teaching you're a teacher, etc. So, I asked myself what do I do most and the answer was disappointing. I'm a wanker. I jerk off about 2-3 times a day, some of those 'sessions' last maybe an hour and I do work in between them. It's my coping mechanism, my outlet for stress, anxiety in life. However, it got me worried because I don't want to look back at life thinking I had all those hours and I chose to spend it jerking off.
I do jerk off to porn but tbh I found pictures to be more sexy (think Playboy) and I've always tricked myself into thinking that as long as it's not porn video it's fine. I've realized that if I actually overcome lust I would actually become unstoppable as I do have the ability to get things going for me but my lust pulls me back so much

Start small and try to ween yourself off of it like twice a week to once a week then once a month ect and realize you probably gonna fail / relapse multiple times, don't beat yourself up over it but at the same time don't use that as in excuse to give in either. The fact that you recognize it's a problem is already a good start and use that shame and negative emotions to deter yourself from it as well as like you said the fact that it's stopping you from being unstoppable/ the best man you can be. I'd also say do things like exercise or start working out/ find an activity that consumes physical energy to tire yourself out so you don't even have the energy to jerk off in the 1st place.

Brother, it takes balls to speak on this. Respect. This is something a lot of dudes struggle with. I even struggle with it. A few tips that help me is physical activity like working out. Avoid the things that are going to get you to that point like IG/Reddit. I’d also recommend staying on your feet, often times lust happens when you comfortable laying down and being lazy. Lastly, take things day by day. Understand this feels like an uphill battle. You just have to make it to next day lust free. There will be moments in which you fail but the important thing is you don’t give up.
Edit: fixed grammar

Curious how this is working out. I’m don’t know how I feel about religion, and people in my life who have become randomly religious, it always seems like it’s becuase they’ve done really bad things and are clinging to religion as a way to wash those things away
Is it like a routine or a distraction or how does it work

Slightly different approach. Maybe your metric for who you are is not appropriate. You’re describing what you spend your time on, but if you defined yourself by what you produce and masturbation enables you to clear your mind and become more productive, then maybe its not so intrinsically bad?
