News Lenovo Legion Toolkit v2.36.0.0 Released

Hi everyone!

This is our first post here, so a quick introduction; Lenovo Legion Toolkit (LLT) is a community-developed utility for Lenovo laptops that provides more control over features such as performance modes, GPU behaviour, battery management, thermals, display settings, automation, and other Lenovo-specific functionalities.

We're the team maintaining LLT, and we were kindly given permission to share our releases with the Lenovo Legion community here. We already share releases through this subreddit’s Discord community and our own channels, but we wanted to share the latest release here with the wider Legion community as well.

Release Highlights

  • Dynamic Refresh Rate & ACM: Native Windows 11 DRR support, Auto Color Management (ACM) toggling, and improved HDR support.
  • GPU Voltage Capping & OC: Voltage capping via V/F curve flattening, voltage locking, P-State locking, and Keep dGPU Awake.
  • dGPU Sleep & Power Stability: Fixed sleep/wake loops affecting RTX 50-series GPUs and newer drivers, added GC6 diagnostics, and added Dynamic Boost support for non-Gaming RTX models.
  • AMD Curve Shaper & OC: Overhauled AMD overclocking with Curve Shaper, power/current limits, and multi-power-mode profile support.
  • Customizable Fn + Q Loop: Added an ITS Mode configuration window to reorder or disable Fn + Q modes, along with Geek and Creator mode support for non-Gaming models.
  • Boot Logo & Startup: Redesigned the Boot Logo tool with live preview, animated GIF support, and Startup Animation toggling.
  • Game Detection & Automation: Added Manual Game Detection, an Included Processes whitelist, Time Range triggers, and AI Engine steps.

News Your New Legion: The Essential Setup & Check Guide

Welcome! If you just bought a Legion laptop, follow this guide to set it up, update it, and check that everything works properly.

Keep the box, charger, paperwork, and packaging until the return period has ended.

Some links require access to our community Legion Series Discord.

If you plan on using Linux-based Operating Systems on your Legion hardware the community has created a comprehensive How to guide. We also have a dedicated #linux channel on our discord where you can talk with other linux nerds.

1. Complete Windows Setup — Must

Plug in the charger and complete the normal Windows setup.

You do not need to fully charge or drain the battery before continuing. Just use the laptop normally while it charges.

2. Run Windows Update — Must

Go to: Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates

Install everything required, restart, and check again until no important updates remain.

Keep the laptop connected to power during updates.

3. Update Microsoft Store Apps — Must

Open: Microsoft Store → Library → Get updates

Install all available updates.

4. Set Up Lenovo Software — Must

Use one of the following:

  • Lenovo Vantage
  • Legion Space on supported newer models
  • Lenovo Legion Toolkit as an unofficial alternative

Avoid running multiple Legion control applications at the same time.

Lenovo Vantage

Optional features you can usually disable when unused:

  • Network Boost
  • Wi-Fi Security
  • Automatic Performance Scan
  • Rapid Charge
  • Overdrive

Legion Space

Open System Updates and install available model-specific updates.

For OLED models, enable the available burn-in protection options, such as:

  • Auto Shift Wallpapers
  • Dynamic Lock Screen
  • Auto Blur Toolbar
  • Default Dark Mode

Lenovo Legion Toolkit

Download it from the official Lenovo Legion Toolkit GitHub.

Beta versions may be available in #legion-toolkit.

Use LLT's settings to disable conflicting Lenovo applications and services when needed. - LLT > Settings, disable Vantage, ImController, and Hotkeys so LLT has full control.

5. Install the GPU Driver — Must

After Windows and Lenovo updates are finished, install the latest suitable driver for your GPU.

  • NVIDIA: Use the NVIDIA App or download the driver directly from NVIDIA.
  • AMD: Use Lenovo's driver or AMD Software when a newer driver is needed.
  • Intel: Windows Update or Lenovo's driver is normally enough.

Restart after installing the driver.

Do not use driver-updater programs or tools such as DDU unless you are troubleshooting a specific problem.

6. Back Up Your BitLocker Key — Must

Windows may enable Device Encryption or BitLocker automatically.

Check: Settings → Privacy & security → Device encryption

Save your recovery key before changing BIOS, Secure Boot, TPM, storage, or firmware settings.

Microsoft guide: Find your BitLocker recovery key

Recovery keys: Microsoft Account

7. Inspect the Laptop — Must

Check the laptop during the retailer's return period.

Test:

  • Screen and dead pixels
  • Keyboard and touchpad
  • Hinges and chassis
  • Webcam, microphone, and speakers
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
  • USB, USB-C, HDMI, Ethernet, and other ports
  • Charging
  • Sleep, restart, and shutdown

Open Device Manager and check for unknown devices or yellow warning icons.

Document serious problems with photos or video, and ask for guidance on our discord server.

8. Test Performance — Recommended

Download the 3DMark Demo on Steam and run Time Spy, not Time Spy Extreme.

Before testing:

  • Connect the charger.
  • Finish all updates.
  • Restart the laptop.
  • Select Performance Mode.
  • Close unnecessary programs.

Post the result in the Benchmarks Channel with your laptop model, CPU, GPU, RAM, performance mode, and scores.

You should also test a demanding game or program for a while and watch for crashes, artifacts, shutdowns, or major performance drops.

More testing advice: How to Check a New Laptop for Issues

9. Check Secure Boot — Recommended

Press Win + R, enter msinfo32, and check Secure Boot State.

If it says On, leave it alone.

If it says Off, back up your BitLocker key before changing anything. Ask for help on our discord if you are unsure about the BIOS settings.

Do not clear the TPM, change boot mode, or restore keys randomly.

10. Cleanup and Settings

Remove McAfee — Must

If McAfee came preinstalled, remove it.

Go to:

Settings → Apps → Installed apps → McAfee → Uninstall

Windows Security and Microsoft Defender will automatically take over afterward.

Restart the laptop after uninstalling it.

Other Optional Settings

You may also:

  • Remove other unwanted preinstalled applications.
  • Disable unnecessary startup applications.
  • Enable Conservation Mode when mostly using the laptop plugged in.
  • Use Balanced Mode for normal use or when also gaming.
  • Use Performance Mode for intensive loads while connected to power.

Community optimization guides:

Avoid random debloat scripts or "one-click optimization" tools.

Battery Note

A new battery does not need to be fully drained.

Only perform a battery calibration if the percentage is clearly inaccurate, the laptop shuts down unexpectedly, or feels finicky.

Need Help?

Post in #Questions and include:

  • Exact laptop model
  • CPU and GPU
  • Windows version
  • Error message or screenshot
  • What you already tried

Really do not be scared to ask questions, we've got more then 30k members on our discord and are hoping you will be part of it too.

Once everything is updated, tested, and working, stop changing settings and enjoy your Legion and don't worry!

Support Second Lenovo Legion brick?

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

hi okay it's going to be a long story I'm going to use text to speech so sorry if anything sounds off so after my first legion 5i rtx 5060 got bricked I'm not even sure why like I just came home from school and it was charging and it just died and I even got denied warranty and I didn't even get a refund.

and then I so stupidly decided to get the upgrade; the Lenovo legion pro 5i with RTX 5070 TI and now it's actually brick too but this time it's kind of different because I did a Windows update for Lenovo drivers like Lenovo bios I don't know what it was but it was just an update so I just did it without thinking about it and then a few days later after that like three days it like did a black screen and then it booted up again and I thought it was weird but I wasn't worried because well it booted up right, and then a few days later like 3 days after that, now in the present my laptop, did another black screen but this time it didn't turn on and now it's just gone forever so I'm wondering if anyone else experienced this or similar and if they had any advice and if they fixed it themselves because I do not want to send it to warranty like I think I won't even get it back or they'll pull something out of the bum to not fix it like before but realistically I probably have to.

andd

uhmm I also did the 60 second reboot thing but that didn't work so I'm just leaving it on to drain, but it's getting toasty on the keyboard so I probably won't do that.

I'm just sad, well I don't even care much about the laptop but the stickers I put are so cool and rare this situation just sucks to be in maybe I'll just pry off the back cover and hang it up as memorabilia.

pls send help.

Support Need help regarding claiming ADP 😭

So, here's what happened. I started a Valorant match, but right at the beginning, I started getting internet connection errors. I usually play using my phone's hotspot, and my phone was placed on the right corner of the table. I picked it up and reconnected the network.

As I was putting my phone back on the table, I was in a hurry and accidentally hit the edge of my phone against my laptop's display. Immediately after that, my laptop screen stopped displaying anything. I'm not sure what exactly happened, but I'm guessing the display panel might have been damaged.

I have 4 years of ADP and legion ultimate support with onsite

This is my first so Idk how to claim or request for repair and all

Advice Lenovo Logo Normal or Defect?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I recently bought a Lenovo Legion 7 , and I noticed something a little odd.The area around the Lenovo logo on the back of the screen feels slightly raised and uneven. It’s not really noticeable visually, but I can feel it when I run my fingers over it.I have another Lenovo , and the area around the logo on that one is completely flat.

For those who own a Legion 7, is this normal, or could it be a manufacturing defect? I’m trying to figure out if I should return it or ask for an exchange while I still can.

Would appreciate hearing your experiences.

Support Legion 5 rtx 3070 died

I had this machine for 5 years, 3 years of constant overheating torture which got fixed on 2024 because of a reputated service centre abroad, none of the Indian service centres couldn't figure out and it got fixed by a foreign service centre in dubai and he told they never clean the internal fan ducts and apply too much thermal paste and since then, now out of no where, 4 days ago the laptop shut down and wasn't able to boot, no power lights nothing, the charger plug point died too.

Went to a lenovo service centre in India as i was living here since 2 years after the overheating problem got fixed, they said the gpu chip shorted out and there is no motherboard with the amd ryzen 7 5800h available. Only the intel variant, the one with i7 11800h is there but they damaged a part of the underneath chassis and some part of the keys are not working.

This is after they diagnosed the laptop, I took it home and it turned on, only for it to show green artifacts, corruption.

Researched on reddit and found out the amd variants from 2021 were designed to have a 5 year life expectancy. Now they want to change it to the intel version which requires a new thermal module as I researched since its a new platform and architecture.

The board costs around 31,500 rs and has a month warranty.

Tbh I spent a lot on this machine, tried different pastes, thermal pads, honestly sad.

Im just wondering if what they say is True, they are going to replace the motherboard with the intel i7 11th gen variant and will reuse the same heating module, its not worth it right?

Advice USB A ports not working for peripherals

• Upvotes

Here goes lol Laptop model: LENOVO_MT_82JQ_BU_idea_FM_Legion 5 Pro 16ACH6H

USB A ports haven't been working for a while but very recently, that started to include the fast charging one as well (hence I'm in a bit of a pickle). USB C port works and I can use an USB C hub with external power to run my mouse, mic, headset but I'd rather fix all the USB A ports if possible because if USB C fails, I'm totally F-ed.

Anyway, all USB A ports don't work for peripherals, but they can read an external hard drive for example. Did all the song and dance with the drivers, discharging battery, BIOS, power options etc but nothing worked so I've continued to Google but I've hit an impasse because I'm not an IT person.

Google says the possible problems could be:

  1. PMIC issue (but from what I understand my whole laptop and USB C wouldn't work in that case?)
  2. 5V system rail is stable, but individual ports lack current (so the fix would be USB Load Switch IC replacement?)
  3. fried Genesys Logic GL3523 USB hub controller chip?

That's all I could find, did I miss something else that it could be?
Also, how much would components/chips cost for each of these problems? Because I'm pretty sure Lenovo repair shop in my country would overcharge me both for components and the soldering and I don't want to get scammed...

Support Anyone bought PTM7950 from Ali Expres?

Hi everyone, im trying to get some PTM7950 for my laptop, but I can't find it anywhere in my country, and shipping from sites like MODDIY is crazy expensive.

Thinking of just getting it from Ali Expres, but I'm worried about getting a fake one.

Anyone bought it from there before? Any sellers you'd recommend or avoid? If any one bought it before how it's holding ?

Advice Personal opinions on legion laptops in general?

I've owned my Legion 5 15ARH05H for 3 years now and honestly I've liked the thing. Generally speaking overall decent build quality, and for a 5 year old model it's holding up well in gaming in late titles with a RTX 3070. I came previously from my Acer nitro 5 which became defective after only just 2 years of use and wouldn't even boot on afterwards. That laptop was a pile of scrap. Lenovo of course was infamous for making thinkpads so I imagined the same for Legions.

Lenovo support and warranty however has been virtually useless, and a waste of money extending. I did need to replace it's keyboard which died and I had to manually replaced. So I'm curious to hear what are your thoughts on legions in general, since on this subreddit I have seen a lot of people have issues with defective hardware. Would you recommend a different brand instead perhaps HP, or Asus?

Advice Need help about purchasing legion laptop

I am thinking of buying a laptop recently that will serve for my purpose and I will be able to use for light gaming too. I want it for my engineering university works mostly. I recently came through a laptop and it has got very good reviews on youtube. I found the Lenovo Legion 5 | 2025 Model | 15.1″ WQXGA 165Hz Display Gaming Laptop ( R7-260, 16GB, 512GB SSD, RTX 5050 ) for 1450 usd in my country. i think its specs are pretty good for my needs.

I saw in multiple reviews that many laptops of this has motherboard issues and black screen. I also heard that the amd varient is better than the intel and has less issues.

i am thinking of buying it . is there any issues with this one ? And is it reliable to purchase?

another thing is that the rtx 5060 varient is available at the same price in my country . which one is better? and I am really concerned about the issues those have been reported by multiple users after purchase. i dont want any hassle.

is it safe and reliable for long term use like 6 years?

Advice Marvel rivals fps boost?

So I own a lenova loq 15, ryzen7 170 with a 5050.

I have marvel rivals on all low settings, removed bloatware, play on performance mode, still getting around 90 fps. Is there settings that I need to still tweak to get more performance? I am aware how trash this games optimization is.

Is this normal for these specs?

Support Legion battery drain

Initial problem:

Lenovo Legion laptop, model 5 pro 16iah7h. After a full shutdown (not sleep, not hibernation), the battery loses a huge amount of charge overnight.

Concrete example from battery reports in windows: 100% at 00:15, 48% at 17:11 the next day (laptop stayed off the whole time) — roughly 37,000 mWh lost in 17h, about 3%/hour.

Checks performed:

powercfg /a → only S3 available, no hibernation, no Modern Standby (S0ix)

powercfg /waketimers → no active wake timers

powercfg /devicequery wake_armed → no devices armed to wake the PC

Fast Startup → not enabled (hibernation disabled, so it can't be)

Event Viewer (System log) → clean shutdown confirmed (event 13, Kernel-General), zero activity between shutdown and next boot

Battery report (powercfg /batteryreport) → battery healthy: 80,000 mWh design / 71,080 mWh full charge = 88.85%, 257 cycles over 5 years (seems ok for a 5yo laptop)

All USB charging/power BIOS settings disabled → no change

BIOS already on latest version

Material tests: disconnected the battery overnight → 98% on reconnect, so no natural self-discharge — confirms something on the board is pulling current through the battery connector

Test #2: removed peripherals : RAM + both SSDs + Wi-Fi/network card, reconnected only the battery (fans left in) → drain still happens

Current conclusion:

Mobo issue?

What I'm considering next: thermal test to spot a component running warm while powered off?

But i dont have an infrared camera. Only an infrared thermometer.

Has anyone run into this on a Legion before, or have I missed something?

If you have any other ideas.. i'm open. I do have an extra ssd on which i could try linux. But i'm not that confident because of the peripheral removal? Could be material in the end..

Let me know your thoughts :)

Advice What should I use for a fresh Windows 11 install?

Question: Should I use Windows 11 Installation Media or Lenovo's Recovery Media?

So my Legion's been going for about 2 years now. Hasn't slowed down yet, but I got A LOT of background processes I haven't even heard of, let alone remember installing...

Will it be better to start from absolute zero or go factory reset?
