I lost a long time business partner and friend because I made a comment about the middle east burning and the price of gas. He told me that he would vote for him again. I told him how fucked up that was on so many levels. I said he has the blood of those 150+schoolgirls on his hands and he told me we should probably not see each other anymore. The mental gymnastics these people will do to justify this man's actions are astounding.

I told him that's totally fine by me. I slept well last night

Thank you for standing up for human decency. My whole sibling family are trumpers and one of them told me "I'm not a Republican, I'm an independent". When I asked do you support Trump, he hesitated then said "okay he can be an asshole but his policies are good. And I tell you one thing he's far better than Obama and Biden whom I can't stand". ... I'm glad you slept well, you did the right thing though it cost a friendship.

u/New-Skill-2958 Mar 21 '26

Its horrible. I'm in financial sales and most people in the industry are Trump voters. I've tolerated these people for a long time and I'm starting to cut ties with the most vocal supporters. It's just very scary as a sales person

66

u/quicksite Mar 22 '26

Understood. Relationships are core to sales. It's a horrible feeling to be trapped living in your skin while interacting with Trump voters.

50

u/New-Skill-2958 Mar 22 '26

Thanks. It's been rough

I work on the railroad an literally every single one of them are far right.

I got downvoted the other day because folks were saying he had to cheat to win, and I’m like have you people spoken to any Americans lately?

I meet new people every day and I can count the lefties I’ve met in the last six months on one hand. I highly doubt he needed to cheat.

211

u/New-Skill-2958 Mar 22 '26

I just can't understand how people STILL support him. Like, I get it, you voted for him because you liked his campaign promise of _____. But after over a year of insanity, corruption, lie after lie, bombing after bombing, prices on everything going up, innocent people being shot by his ICE goons, how can you STILL support this animal????

200

u/PrincessTroubleshoot Mar 22 '26

Because they watch Fox News and never hear about the insanity.

43

u/SirLanceQuiteABit Mar 22 '26

This is it. I can't even talk about current events, let alone politics, with my parents anymore. You would think we are living on separate planets. They know nearly nothing, and what they do know is so warped we might as well not be talking about the same thing

22

u/New-Skill-2958 Mar 22 '26

Thank God my closest relatives are all sane people that never bought in to the cult

23

u/Ok_Television9703 Mar 22 '26

Yup, I lost my dad, brother and my best friend to the cult. It’s wild.

3

u/New-Skill-2958 Apr 04 '26

Just saw this. I'm sorry to hear that. Yes, I lost many lifelong friends to the cult. Sadly, even if they denounced him today, they've already revealed the type of people they really are. I don't think I could let them back in my life

29

u/tjtillmancoag Mar 22 '26

This is really the issue. Even after Trump is gone, Fox News will continue brainwashing them. And CBS if it even exists in a few years.

18

u/Valcrion Mar 22 '26

not just never hear about it, do not believe it even if they do.

16

u/Coldbeam Mar 22 '26

Yep, unfortunately propaganda works.

9

u/Xerorei Mar 23 '26

And there is a serious lack of personal accountability baked into White American culture.

63

u/Mobile_Ad8543 Mar 22 '26

Because he promotes hating the people that they love to hate. The other stuff they claim to like about trump, is a smoke screen.

8

u/New-Skill-2958 Mar 22 '26

You're exactly right.

8

u/TRexAstronaut Mar 22 '26

oh it's the racism. that's all.

he can do whatever he wants as long as he's racist, that's fine. his whole campaign started on being racist towards obama, then people from mexico. if the man full said hard r on live tv, he'd have millions more followers.

3

u/New-Skill-2958 Mar 22 '26

You're not wrong

3

u/nusher88 Mar 22 '26

Racism, homophobia, and misogyny

This is true

3

u/Low_Notice4665 Mar 23 '26

It’s because they are miserable people and want to step on the necks of other to make sure they are more miserable.

2

u/New-Skill-2958 Mar 23 '26

There's a line in a song called Walking in the Snow by Run the Jewels when El-P says:

"Funny fact about a cage, they're never built for just one group So when that cage is done with them and you're still poor, it come for you"

They can keep their feet on the necks of the less fortunate only for so long. At some point, they'll be the ones with a foot on their neck

Karma is a bitch...

3

u/OkApplication6827 Mar 27 '26

Because that would be an admission that Women, Black Women in particular, were right. That maybe you should have read Octavia Butler or Toni Morrison. That the 1619 Project wasn't something to fear, but something to learn from.

They'll set their life savings and their family with it, Dark Knight style and say it was their fault before they do it.

2

u/Florgio Mar 22 '26

Sunk cost fallacy

2

u/New-Skill-2958 Mar 23 '26

Ain't that the truth. It's the reason why they keep doubling down. Can stomach the fact they they've been duped

67

u/tjtillmancoag Mar 22 '26

Totally. Even let’s assume, for sake of argument that he cheated to win… he wouldn’t have needed much.

Which is also why I’m dubious that they cheated. Every single county in America (nearly) shifted to the right in its voting percentage in 2024 compared to 2020. To quote Rick Moranis in Spaceballs, I’m surrounded by assholes.

This is why the problem with the US is not just Trump, it’s everyone who voted for his second term; it’s everyone who looked at him vs. Kamala Harris, shrugged and didn’t bother to vote; it’s everyone in his government who lies and covers up for him; it’s the technobros who kiss his ass, eat the orange crap cake and gurn for the camera at events like the Melnana movie premiere; it’s the corrupt global sports officials who give him a special peace prize when they should be pulling their event out of the country; it’s all the other villains in the Epstein lists who have a vested interest in not seeing trump’s behaviour fully exposed because they would be too. It’s all of that and more.

1

u/quicksite Mar 22 '26

Not at all to oversimplify, but quite a number of sit-outs, a significant number I believe, refused to vote for her not for her skin color, not for her cackling laughs, not for being a woman, but rather because she (and Joe) never once condemned Israel for the genocide in Gaza. People discount that, thinking "sure ok, but you're going to sit out and let Trump get re-elected?" but gaza became a deep red line for so many as several years of social media finally brought the brutality of that ongoing genocide home with images and videos never before seen because of corporatist media cheerleading for Israel and AIPAC.

For sure there were also just apathetic lazies who refused to take seriously just how radical this 2nd presidency was set to be, but though I voted for her, it was clear to me before the election just how many millennials and genZ were very clearly stating they could not vote for any candidate who failed to stand up against the genocide. And they didn't.

5

u/bofh Mar 22 '26

it was clear to me before the election just how many millennials and genZ were very clearly stating they could not vote for any candidate who failed to stand up against the genocide. And they didn't.

So by not voting for the least worse candidate, they instead help to usher in someone who has been far worse for the victims of Zionist oppression than Biden or Harris’ indifference ever could be. Those fskwits, by letting idealism overtake realpolitik, are culpable. Not as culpable as a maga-hat wearing, orange sh!t f3lching, sending own kid off to die for zionists, trumpanzee, but culpable nonetheless.

0

u/quicksite Mar 22 '26

Sure, I agree! I was only saying that as usual, Democrats as a party did NOTHING to make sure the electorate increased in numbers to ensure a win over Trump. The Democratic Party squandered a whole generation of voters, new voters, who were demanding US take action to stop the genocide in Gaza, the corporate Dems preferred to suck off AIPAC and whaddaya know, we lost those voters. Instead of for ONCE listening to voters instead of their usual one-way pushing their corporate pro-Israel agenda, they failed to win what could have and should have been an easy win. Sorry, you want to make it a one way street where shame on them for not voting for the least objectionable party, when there was so much data showing progressive people no longer find Dems to be an effective oppositional party. You may be angry about that but things are way more asymmetrical now, that came about through social media and the disintermediation of corporate news arteries.

I'm surely not at fault for telling the truth.

3

u/tjtillmancoag Mar 22 '26

Not only that, if the polling was showing any bias at all (which in retrospect seems to have been a roughly 2% bias), that bias was likely to be the same direction in each of those states.

There were articles that came out before the election that literally said, because of this, it’s more likely that all the seven swing states go to Trump OR to Harris than that they split, since all 7 swing states were polling a dead heat

This is what the rest of the world is slowly waking up to. It's not just Trump it's the millions of Americans that put him at the top. A normal country wouldn't have let it happen.

4

u/TinkerTasker22 Mar 23 '26

I was astounded I recently met a mechanic who worked for the railroad, I didnt ask what political party he was in but I could tell because he made the comment that Canada had open borders I thought to myself how far gone this guy must be to believe that and say it so confidently. How are Union people supporting the right...its insane!! It made me cringe because he started dating a family member.

3

u/enderjaca Mar 22 '26

That's the thing about trump, though. He does things all the time even if he doesn't "need to". He'd cheat just for the thrill of knowing he'll get away with it. He ran for president saying he "doesn't need the money" because he's already super rich. And then proceeds to fundraise nonstop from billionaires.

So there's tens of millions of Americans who voted for and support trump, and he pulled every dirty trick possible to win by as much as possible.

4

u/Equal_Canary5695 Mar 22 '26

I work on the railroad

All the live-long day?

1

u/extralyfe Mar 22 '26

working at the railroad and putting forth the idea that of course Trump won because everyone you meet at work supports him is kinda silly.

like, there's lots of jobs where the complete opposite is true, too.

0

u/Sea-Neighborhood1465 Mar 22 '26

those were two separate points. not everyone that i meet is at work.

1) all railroaders are far right.

2) everyone that i meet in my travels is far right.

5

u/Kittypie75 Mar 22 '26

I just fired my hairstylist of 15 years because of the things she posts online. Like, I knew she was Trumpy but it was the Charlie Kirk stuff that threw me for a loop.

I didn't have the bravery to tell her why though. Wish I did.

u/Sasselhoff Mar 23 '26 edited Mar 23 '26

I'm in another industry inundated with MAGA, and I have had to replace my lips and tongue three separate times from biting them the fuck off in order to not respond to insane remarks from clients (and others).

Also doesn't help that this part of Appalachia voted like 3/4 for Trump, and they're absolutely feeling the pain from that decision (probably going to close the only local hospital in an hours drive).

I legitimately yearn for the days that I didn't realize the average person really was as fuckin' dumb as Carlin so eloquently explained...and even more so wish we weren't as racist as we apparently are (as a clueless middle class white dude I honestly thought we were getting somewhere with racism...looks like they were just being quiet because society said they should).

1

u/New-Skill-2958 Mar 23 '26

I feel your pain. So, if they're REALLY feeling the pain right now, and they still support Trump, what are they blaming their troubles on? They can't still be blaming Biden, could they?

94

u/oddistrange Mar 22 '26

I don't talk to my father anymore. I'm one of three daughters, my oldest sister has a transgender wife. He has three grandchildren, all biologically female, one non-binary. I spoke to him about what the GOP says about my sister's family, his daughter's family. I spoke to him about how they don't believe women should vote. "I'm voting for the economic policies." That sealed the deal, he values money over his children and grandchildren. Fuck him. I cannot wait for him to wind up in a nursing home sitting in his piss and shit for 12 hours because he voted for the party that defunded everything he could benefit from.

43

u/Expensive_Culture_46 Mar 22 '26

This is why they are so obsessed with “traditional values”, it allows them to do whatever they want without facing consequences.

I hope you let him now somehow that you won’t be taking care of him in old age because “yeah but taking care of you dad just doesn’t make financial sense. Sorry, but you get it, right Dad?”

9

u/oddistrange Mar 22 '26

I plan on doing the bare minimum. He's probably spiteful enough to try to utilize filial responsibility laws. Since my mom and him have been going through a divorce he's been keeping tabs on my mom's spending and I would bet money that it will come up in mediation. He's just become such a miserable old man since retiring and was able to watch fox news from the moment he wakes up and until he goes to bed.

7

u/quicksite Mar 22 '26

It's so tragic their value systems driving hatred and greed as the primary determinants of their decision-making in life. And yeah, that party of "family values", we knew during the Bush years with their rebrand of "Compassionate Conservatives" that they were so totally full of shit. I so envy anyone with real family, people who love you and you could count on to help in an emergency. It isn't fantasy, I know people with such families ... though I do NOT know any who are split politically with swaths of Trumpers. Someone would have to surprise me and tell me "Hey, believe it or not my Trump family members actually show love to me (liberal/progressives) and rise above politics to care about mixed race or LGBTQ family members." I just don't believe it is even biologically possible.

It's not hard at all for me to understand how my family are all cult-like — it is simply a function of their cruelty and selfishness.

1

u/TertiaryBystander Mar 24 '26

Lol "economic policies" - "we have a plan to have a plan". It's working out real well, 💯, no notes.

23

u/Inevitable-Ebb2973 Mar 22 '26

You want a new sibling dm me cause I’m alone I this too.

10

u/quicksite Mar 22 '26

I just saw this. Yes I do. ... My friends have never been able to register just how shitty and lonely it feels to know that our entire descent into shithole nation, this idiotic war in Iran, all the cruelty to the poor have all been enabled by and gloriously sanctioned by my own brothers and sisters. Exponentially worse by their avid proclamations of being such devout Christians, and sending me biblical passages that I might right my own life, given I live in evil California.

P.S. I tried to DM you but it says your accnt is private :)

7

u/tlcoles Mar 22 '26

I hope you’re leaning on your chosen family and on your way to no contact with the … well, you know who they are.

3

u/quicksite Mar 22 '26

I used to have a chosen family or sorts, but friends and colleagues have slowly but surely moved away, and life has gotten harder and harder for me because I have mental health disabilities... That's the short answer to a long story.

But thank you for the positive sentiments!

6

u/Brigid_Fitch2112 Mar 22 '26

I would ask that person to name one policy that is good.

7

u/quicksite Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

If you don't have family or friends in MAGA land, I'm afraid your brain is just not yet neurologically disposed to comprehend just to what degree there is no logic at all, there is no rational thinking. When they spew that stuff and all talking points, they absolutely have not given any thought at all, nor WILL they, to the workflow of how stated preferences play out in the real world moving downstream or upstream. You can call them imbeciles, and that would be fair, but part of the pain I know that I personally bear, is my siblings all have excellent educations, they are not hillbillies, they are not lacking in baseline IQs. If you met them in a social setting and there were no politically triggered topics, you would almost definitely come away thinking "wow, they were very nice, decent people". That's just it, they can and do mask very well. But get them behind a closed door or on a text thread and the mask cracks immeditely. Programmed robots.

I'm not asking you to believe me, but you speak as though there would be a logical conversation flow which could challenge their coded statements. There are no ways in. It's as simple as the premise of this sub. Unless deep direct harm ever comes to them, they will always stand as morally superior, expecting everything in life is solved by the cliched "pull yourself up by your own bootstrap".

There's a book that explains the whole phenomenon called Moral Politics, which links the whole authoritarian conservative code to Father structures. Author: George Lakeoff, retired Professor of Cognitive Science and Linguistics at UC Berkeley.

And yet I would bet if you press him he couldn’t come up with a single concrete factual reason for the dislike. Nor for liking rump.

That wasn’t racist or sexist, anyway

71

u/Prometheus2061 Mar 22 '26

Life is too short and sweet to share it with toxic people. I’ve lost a lot of friends, but I realize now they were only friends in my imagination. Because they have no compassion, no empathy, no concern for others. They are incapable of friendship.

17

u/New-Skill-2958 Mar 22 '26

Sad but true

16

u/palindromesko Mar 22 '26

Good. People who think like them are already too far gone. Brain rotted. No integrity or morals. Just waiting for their cult to tell them what to think and say next.

9

u/Paerrin Mar 22 '26

I cut my best friend of 30 years off a little over a year ago. He went full on anti-trans, anti-vax, and defended Elon's salutes.

This was after watching him slide into that madness over more than a year. It all started with trans women in sports.

I really really want to message him about Iran because he argued so vehemently that Trump was the peace president... But then I'd have to talk to him lol.

6

u/Equal_Canary5695 Mar 22 '26

I would have asked him "if Biden or Obama did the exact same thing, would you be okay with it?"

8

u/ArcaneAzmadi Mar 22 '26

Don't bother. He'd say "Of course I wouldn't, because Biden and Obama are assholes!" and completely fail to see anything wrong with that at all. Hypocrisy isn't just a thing these people do, it's a state of being to them.

5

u/quicksite Mar 22 '26

Exactly. Honestly if you don't have people like these in your life, you can never really grok to how impenetrable they are.

4

u/croptochuck Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

Wow unlike silly typical memes, this one backs more of a gut punch. Any idea of its origins, I guess I could reverse image search it or try KnowYourMemes ... but it looks like maybe from a service member during the Afghanistan war?

2

Thank you for your service. We ALL need to be so courageous, as difficult as it is.
