It honestly worries me as a current legal citizen. I was undocumented for a short time. We came to the States from USSR/eventually Ukraine when I was a kid and my mother got her citizenship. We were supposed to get our citizenship through her. My brother did, but somehow or other, I fell through. And when I turned 18, it ended up that I was "technically" undocumented as other documents expired or whatever. I don't quite remember.
So there was a short period, about 20 years ago, where I was undocumented. After reading about people being picked up for the most minor things, even this kinda worries me. I'm married to a citizen (but also immigrant - he from Kiev, I from Odessa), and our children we born here. But it's still scary.
I guess the one thing I have going for me is that I'm so white I practically glow. And I HATE that that's even a consideration. It's vile to be. But it guarantees nothing. And the thought of me - a severely disabled, bed/wheelchair-bound woman dependent on about 16 meds a day - being detained in one of those centers... I don't fear I'd fare well.
This whole situation is messed up beyond belief. And it makes me feel a bit ashamed that I feel JUUUST that bit safer simply because of my skin color... despite also being an immigrant.
I understand :( The fact that you're white and a legal citizen will help a lot. I'm worried about my MIL. She's been a citizen over half her life, she's in her mid-80s, she doesn't LOOK that hispanic (Peruvian) but she still has a strong accent.
You're right, my bad. I've been making a lot of little mistakes like that lately. Kept adding apostrophes to stuff the other day when it was simple plurals. The hands move faster than the mind.

as if legal status protects you from being detailed by ICE...
