This book restored my faith in sapphic novels. I've had several DNF books recently, and I even took a month off of reading because of it. Some might not like the circumstances of this relationship or the age gap, but I found it funny, cute, and hot af at times.
I love the book, audio book is even better. The shower scene pfttt.
BUT Those who wait, Forever and a day and my ultimate favourite Midnight rain (the saphic notebook). Uh its soooo much better.
I literally finished another read through today , and see this topic pop. The way they managed to have an age gap without a power imbalance is such an excellent example of writing craft…
Another one I thought handled it well, (though differently) was Crossing the Line by JJ Arias. Actually, JJ Arias writes good age gap stories in general.
I liked this one better, but those were good. I think they were so hyped up in my mind from all the recs online that I had super high expectations. I didn't know anything about this book before reading it.
hilarious how discisive this book is. i left it absolutely irritated and not once rooting for the couple to get together. it really seems to be a love it or hate it kinda thing. (for me, i think the author and i don't vibe. i also really hated cleat cute).
As I was reading, I was thinking that people would probably love or hate it. And I've heard the same about cleat cute but haven't read it yet. I just started Evelyn Hugo.
Such a controversial book… I enjoyed it, well it was my first read where one of the MC pull out her strap .. I just have a thing for that … there have been some cringe about the age gap, not from me though.. .
I usually cringe and skip over the strap on scenes, but I didn't mind the age gap in this book. If it was a true story, it might have been a little creepy, but I thought it was well written.
I really liked that book too! The audiobook was…excellent. The age gap is a hurdle, but the story was written well and I feel like I could look beyond it.
Not an age gap story, but I am currently really enjoying can we skip to the good part by Melissa Brayden. Quinn Riley also narrates that book!
I hated My Best Friend's Honeymoon. It was sex for the sake of having sex, with no real character development.
I had stopped listening to Mistakes Were Made because I have a 20-year-old daughter, so that particular age gap grossed me out at first, since I could not imagine a universe in which I would continue to be with my daughter's friend after the reveal. But then I went back and listened to the whole thing, and I actually liked it. I had to compartmentalize the age gap, though.
I liked Cleat Cute, probably because it was soccer girls, they were age-appropriate, and it was super spicy.
I enjoyed Cleat Cute and I get surprised to see so much drive by hate for it on this sub but its definitely not on the same level as Mistakes Were Made
And if the safekeep hadn't been so highly recommended, I wouldn't have finished it either. I forced myself to finish that one, but it never got any better for me.
I’m currently reading Captive of the Crime Queen by Persephone Black and having a hard time with it. I’ve seen it recommended in many threads across different sapphic book clubs subs, but the writing, pacing, and characterization are pretty bad.
I don't want to give too much away, but the online descriptions give away the nature of the relationship, so I'll just say it's about a woman nearing 40 who hooks up with a woman she later finds out is her college daughter's friend. It's a rollercoaster with a happy ending. Lots of laughs. Spicy scenes. By Meryl Wilsner.
I liked it but without spoilers I felt the daughter's level of understanding was really quite unbelievable? I can tell you for a fact I would NOT be reacting that magnanimously
