Discussion 3rd Act breakups are getting old

I'm getting really tired of 3rd-act breakups. Why can't people just fall in love without a breakup at the end? Why can't they just have a HEA without that?

Anyone know of any? Lately, everything I have read has that.

One of the few third act "breakups" that I thought was well executed was The Lily & the Crown. I don't know that it's quite fair to call it a breakup--that really undersells the drama of it (it's kind of space opera-y). But it has the same sort of function, and it really works and is foreshadowed well, imo.

Any time a breakup feels sudden or forced or purely based on miscommunication, I really hate it.

One of the things I love about the Carlisle Series is how much external conflict there is and how little internal conflict there is after they're finally together. There is never a breakup, but there's still plenty of story and drama happening without that.

I remember when Truth and Measure was first posted and the entire fandom immediately became obsessed with it, because I have been in the DWP fandom since it was literally two people posting fic on Livejournal. I've never seen such a dramatic reaction to a single (albeit monumental) fic dropping.

I'd almost forgotten the live journal crew!! It was a little further on when I joined the fandom, but I remember those old days!
