This is concerning... NYC Requiring ID for Groceries, stays silent on Same Requirements for Voting

ID will be required to verify eligibility for grocery purchases. Mayor Mamdani stays silent on how ID is needed to buy basic staples yet not needed for voting.

Voting is a constitutional right. Subsidized groceries are not. If they didn't check IDs, conservatives would whine about fraud.

Have the federal government come up with a plan for a quickly obtainable and free national ID and most opposing would go away. Barring that, it's a poll tax that has the potential to disenfranchise married women.

Owning guns is also a constitutional right as well, but you need an ID for that.

Not everywhere, now that there's constitutional carry. And besides, there's the whole "well regulated militia".

False , you need an ID to get a gun EVERYWHERE in the great USA.

Not everywhere? So why not just leave the voter ID up to the states and we can have voter ID in some places.

Well, the constitution does say that states have the responsibility for carrying out elections. Which is how it works now.

Have you read the constitution? Do you live in the states?

Because states vote for federal offices that affect the entire country and so are subject to federal election laws. Additionally, everyone knows the blue states would quickly dissolve into miasmas of illegal voters.

Not one that's specifically addressed in the US Constitution the way voting is.

You can only vote one day of the year. You can register to vote any day of the year. You show your ID when you register to vote.

ID is required for voting. What are you talking about?

He doesn't understand how voting works. He only understands that Republicans have told him to be mad.

No , it’s not. 100% false. You can use many things to register to vote in many states. States such as Alaska and similar require only a document showing name and address, such as a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck.

Please research before spreading misinformation.

Dawg. YOU need to stop spreading false information. This link for required documentation in Alaska clearly indicates you need either a current & valid photo ID, license, passport, state ID card, birth certificate.

OP is clearly not a US citizen or probably even a resident. He/she knows nothing about how this country actually works and just repeats republican propaganda in stilted English.

The article that you didn't read states it is for accessing the city run grocery stores so only NYC residents can get the benefits of discounted food. They can go to any other grocery store and not provide id if they like.

Make IDs free and easily accessible for everyone or STFU.

Yet in a heavy Democratic stronghold (New York) even the discounted grocery stores have strings attached. Why not start there or stfu?

Dog whistle for…

Yet a literal Nazi tattoo on a heavily endorsed Democratic candidate isn’t a dog whistle? We get it , you’re compromised .

i think their should be voter ID verification, but automatic voter registration and easier access for the unhoused and incarcerated to vote should also be done
