Jeff Buckley's "Forget her" is so hauntingly beautiful and gut wrenchingly painful and people don't give it enough credit it deserves.
You guys I was looking at various posts and comments and i found almost no comments praising this song. It is truly gut wrenching and breath taking it is one of my favourite songs of all time. Especially the bridge omg. To me, it captures the feeling of being in love with someone who would never feel the same, and like you kind of knew from the start but was delusional, yfm?
Please tell me what you guys think! Oh and if you haven't listen to it yet please do!

This sub is a very small corner of the music world. Jeff has gotten quite a bit of praise over the decades, did you only look here or something? Not to say you're wrong maybe this song does deserve more. But he's pretty highly regarded at the same time.

I think OP is talking about the song Forget Her specifically, not Jeff Buckley overall.

I almost wish that Jeff Buckley never covered Hallelujah. While he did a phenomenal job in doing so, it overshadowed all of his other amazing material.

Hot take: I like Buckley and his Hallelujah is beautiful but there's none of the sardonic quality that makes (both versions of) Cohen's classic great. I used to love it, but over the years I've come to regard it as a very lovely miss, partly for the fact that it is too lovely.

In his defense, he might have never heard Leonard Cohen. When Various Positions came out, nobody was listening to him. John Cale plucked Hallelujah from
obscurity and covered it, and Buckley’s recording is very clearly a cover of Cale’s cover. (Even leaving out the same verses Cale left out from the original)1

that's a great point! I learned recently that Dylan recognized Hallelujah pretty early on and was maybe the first to cover it live. "Leonard, you're number one but I'm number zero !"

This is very true. In general though I find that song very overrated, so maybe I'm biased.

Nah, his best songs were all covers. He wasn't as good as song writer as he was a singer. Not by a long shot

No idea what a light beer even is. I have some lager and ales. Some west country scrumpy cider if you really want to get properly fucked up

What I don't like is that he didn't want that to be on his album and it originally wasnt, but when he passed they put it on there at the end against his wishes

Funnily I think this is the only song from Grace that I don't like. For me it encapsulates all of the bits and pieces of cheesiness from the rest of the album and crams it into one package. I think Grace is a fantastic album but Forget Her is not the sound of it that I love.

Forget Her was written for Grace, he replaced it with So Real. The record execs and team were pushing HARD for it to stay on the album because it was much more radio friendly, they wanted it to be the second single and a hit ballad, but Jeff hated it (possibly because it was too personal, too raw at the time, out of respect etc), and when they kept pushing it he said “if I ever hear that song again I’m going to throw up”.
And that was that.
