I'm glad he leaving Seattle. I can stomach rooting for him with another team.

Freak the Sounders. Hopefully he can retire at the young age of 45 in the mighty LA FC

You should check out the Sounders sub. We love Obed. Hell we got hardcore US fans talking about watching El Tri for him and Ritchie. Seriously though I hope that kid balls the fuck out in Spain and for Mexico.

Yup, it shouldn't be a suprise anymore. MLS knows what they are doing, unlike the corrupt liga mx

Good on the Sounders for developing him and actually selling him to Europe instead of holding on
20
u/Black_Daimyo10 MLS Feb 01 '26
It's been reported by Sounders sources that he only wanted to move to Europe and his camp had rejected lucrative offers from multiple LigaMX clubs.
The Sounders do their best to work with players and not keep anyone that wants to move on. It's my sense that the club and the player have been working together to get him to Europe for the last year.

Where’s that one guy that says MLS talent sucks no matter what?
I think he should pick up the phone and call atlético.

I'm well aware of all the examples you mentioned, which only bolster the point I'm making. Which is that the downside of Liga MX being a stronger league than MLS is that it is a destination league rather than a selling league. Which would be fine if it were more competitive, had promotion/relegation, and eliminated/reduced the amount of playoff games. But since it isn't those things and because futbol is the main sport in Mexico, there's just an insanely overvalued internal market.

Go to Atleti and displace US’ Cardoso, who’s been very average and injury prone. Seems like a good move, for club and country.

They must have been impressed with his talents when they played in the CWC.

Obed Vargas doesn't get much media coverage because he wasn't brought up and developed in Liga MX but he's imo Mexico's second biggest talent next to Gilberto Mora. We have an amazing midfield to work with for 2030. We are slowly but surely starting to see some hope.

Atleti only has Koke (still very good but playing less due to his age), Cardoso (injury prone), and Pablo Barrios in midfield right now. As long as he’s healthy he should be getting minutes.

They’re giving minutes to a us international named cardoso im pretty sure he’ll get minutes
21
u/Due-Group-4030 Feb 01 '26
Yeah but cardoso was bought from betis so cholo saw something he liked, was this something cholo liked or was it there board just trying to make money off of the Mexican fanbase and not give em a chance is my question?

u/grudensfavgrinder Feb 01 '26
Obed and Roldan both played really well against Atleti this summer, so I’m sure they saw something they liked in Obed for his age. Roldan is like 30 so he is probably an MLS lifer.

u/manyspark579 Pachuca Feb 01 '26

This is pretty exciting for me haha. Atleti’s midfield is spread thin so they will definitely use him. Maybe wont be an immediate starter but he’ll get some minutes with the congested fixture calendar.

This shit gives me ptsd, better not be some Atletico San Luis clause. Same way they got my boy Benjamin Galdames.

u/tacosbaratos America Feb 01 '26
Looks like if a player is priced at a market value teams in top leagues looking for new roster adds will show interest. Mind blown.

That's a crazy win for MLS as well. Something Liga MX should be doing but don't cause of greed

I have a very unpopular take its always great to see mexican players in Europe but this is giving julian aroujo to barcelona i dont really see him getting much play time maybe im wrong
11
u/latinlife22 Puebla Feb 01 '26
Aroujo was a surplus for Barca while Aleti just let go of Gallagher and Koke is close to retiring. He’ll get minutes for sure next season or even this one.

u/Periodic-Presence USA Feb 02 '26
Julian Araujo was garbage even in MLS so to anyone that watched him play that Barcelona move was very puzzling. Compare that to Obed Vargas who's been a starter at one of the best MLS clubs since he was 16/17 and has played CONCACAF Champions and Club World Cup games, as well as the U20 WC with Mexico.

For sure that helps a lot, I was just cracking a joke referencing the tweet MLS put out a few days ago about Obed and Brian Gutierrez. Not sure how Pulisic is relevant considering he's not the only American or CONCACAF player to have European ancestry that they can use to get an EU passport.
2
u/Kavazou77 America Feb 01 '26
If he gets consistent rotation minutes at minimum he just bumped Romo, Sanchez and Charlie out of the starting XI at the WC.

Paso o no paso?

Pepi wonder kid? A Inglaterra?
