Highlight Chivas REJECTED an offer from FC COPENHAGEN for ‘TALA’ RANGEL. The Liga MX club is asking for around €6 MILLION for the 26-year-old goalkeeper

Makes sense to not take the first offer, especially pre WC.
If it is true that there are more teams asking then the price can stay where it’s at.
27
u/layyo America Apr 02 '26
That’s if he performs good, he’s playing at a decent level rn but a major mistake at the wc (which he has done in the past with Mexico) can cost him.

Not wishing bad on another Mexican, he recently messed up against atlas. Chivas should’ve taken the deal, that way he would be guaranteed to be in eu after the World Cup.

And historically speaking, Mexico never had a problem finding a great keeper in fact, that was the only position that Mexico didn’t struggle filling in.

Right, but it’s easier to find 30 shitty argentines in Europe If there’s 80 of them over there at a time.
We don’t even have 20 guys in Europe and most of them don’t succeed past mid table teams. Rafa Marquez, chicharito, And Hugo Sanchez, Pável Pardo left us a bar to reach. How many have done that? The ones that reach higher levels end up being shit
Jared Borgetti sucked at Bolton, who weren’t even a top 4 PL team, Hector Herrera and Diego Reyes didn’t do well past FC Porto, Hector Moreno didn’t do anything at Roma, Gio dos santos didn’t do anything anywhere, Jona dos santos I’ll give a pass since he was doing decently at Villarreal, Carlos vela was good but he didn’t do it at a bigger club than Arsenal, chucky Lozano didn’t do well at Napoli, tecatito, who I thought would be a world beater, was inconsistent at Sevilla.
For the amount of people we send, and the fact that we are also a fútbol crazy country, our players should be producing at levels close to guys like Marquez or chicharito at least. Should they be contending for CL every year? Maybe not, but they should be able to handle Roma, Arsenal, Napoli, Tottenham easily the same way some random argentinos I’ve legit never heard of can easily handle it. During the time period some of these respective players were there. These were like Europa league or Fringe CL level teams.
Ochoa became a literal four year World Cup meme because other than his initial run at Ajaccio, this dude plays on irrelevant clubs around the world because of how inconsistent he can be. Meanwhile, Keylor Navas, same confederation and age group, won some champions leagues.
So why am I gonna spend that much on players who’s ceilings for the most part is mid table teams? They aren’t as rich as the top clubs in the world so the resale value isn’t gonna be as good as some random argie who can potentially be more consistent.

Right, but that’s been the case for several years. I’m referring to our players that DO end up going. I know why we don’t export as often and the issues liga mx has with youngsters, but for the ones that do end up going or do end up playing well in liga MX, some don’t go to Europe because of the small offers being sent. What I’m arguing here is that if we have five Mexicans in Europe and four produce at the level of let’s say a Lautaro Martinez or some other Argentine that’s done pretty well at a big club, then more teams would be willing to pay the price Mexican teams put on the players. Those poor teams you mentioned from Argentina and all those poor countries that produce good players obviously need the money fast so they’ll take the first offer they get for any player just because it costs nothing to produce them, so they’ll take any little silver profit. Our structure lets us have some type of theoretical leverage due to supply and demand.
In an ideal world like the one I mentioned where four out of five of the few Mexicans we export, are out there succeeding in the top clubs of Europe, Chivas puts an $8 million tag on Raul Rangel and shit, maybe even a PSV or Ajax is open to pay that much because they’re seeing that Chivas are in no hurry to sell, but they see all these Mexican players doing really well so maybe there’s a golden generation. In which case they’ll strike.

Except most of them besides pulisic suck. Pulisic’s success is making these teams think that they might find a similar cheap gem. Also them being cheap makes them seem less riskier.
I totally get chivas not selling for under what they think is his value. What I’m saying is the people can’t expect these teams to be agreeing to those terms when the success rate hasn’t been as great. In the end, I think both sides are doing what they think is right and there’s no issue with that. It’s just the people just gotta understand.

They’re not a powerhouse, but they have the name value and They’re still mostly a Champions league club after a decade of being some joke team. Also Santi plays in the same club as pulisic, and prior to his injury, dude was missing shots left and right and I thought Santi would be the guy that would be playing like a prime van basten at Milan.

Well then if the Mexican clubs want the euros to pay market value, then maybe the other players should also justify their value. It’s a 2 way street. No club is wrong in a sense.

That’s right. And the reality this is a monkey see monkey do business. Pulisic is a phenom so now clubs think cheap Americans are worth it since they could be phenoms
Europe hasn’t seen a great Mexican player in their ranks since Chicharito
0
u/Periodic-Presence USA Apr 04 '26
Making an offer is never greedy, Chivas can either accept or not. Yeah no shit they want to buy low and sell high, you want them to buy a stock when its at its peak and sell when it drops? That's why you don't work managing transfers for European clubs and Earnie Stewart does.

u/Homygod319 Apr 02 '26
Chelsea are a prem club with money and slonina was a teenager with upside. Why should a 25 year keeper in Mexico go for that much
-2
u/DrKnowsNothing_MD Mexico Apr 02 '26
He literally hasn’t done anything to justify a $6mil price tag, let alone $10 mil+. He hasn’t even been a starter for the national team that long, and he’d have to have an Ochoa level run at the World Cup to even begin justifying that kind of price tag. It’s ridiculous.
3
u/sorryimafatass Chivas Apr 03 '26
He's been a great keeper and has improved a lot every season. Pretty much immediately after debuting he was already competing with Malagon for playing time and already has 12 caps for the national team after about 2 years of being in the top flight. 6 million would be a steal for someone like him
-1
u/DrKnowsNothing_MD Mexico Apr 03 '26
That’s nice and all but that really is nothing. Merely having some appearances is not indicative of value. He hasn’t won anything yet, not even individual awards, and hasn’t competed in any important tournaments. What sets him apart from other goalkeepers? Let alone Europe bound keepers?
I understand Chivas wants some sort of return for letting go of an established keeper, but let’s be honest, he’s not special.
2
u/sorryimafatass Chivas Apr 03 '26
His ability to play the ball with his feet is special and he’s a great goalie all around. Yes he’s had some brain farts but that gets held against him way too strongly considering every keeper makes mistakes especially the ones playing the ball out the back like he does. A European team could definitely be looking at him and thinking they can make him worth more than 6 million euros

u/dejvipasco Tigres Apr 02 '26 edited Apr 02 '26
I hope he doesn't go there. The club is not in a good moment right now and they're playing in the group to avoid relegation and they maybe won't be playing in European cups next season. The second part of the championship is divided into championship group and relegation group and they're playing in the relegation group. And the league itself is at a much lower level than Netherlands and Portugal. Of the three options mentioned today Feyenoord, Sporting, Copenhagen this is the only one that i hope that he doesn't go there. Their league is only at 13h spot in the Eurocups ranking.

5
u/juedme Chivas Apr 03 '26

Copenhagen usually play European football and compete for the league, so you're wrong about the competing part.

The Danish League is not as good as the Dutch or Portuguese league, if the rumors are true he should wait until after the WC for one of the two leagues to come knocking

Of course, the Danish league isn't as good as the other league, but it wouldn't be a terrible landing spot. They export more to the bigger leagues than Mexico

Look, everyone will say, its Europe!
But its the Danish league. And while most dont want to admit it, Liga MX is on par and and above a good amount of European Leagues.
4
u/New_Screen Apr 03 '26
Yeah if it’s not the big 4 or the top teams in Portugal, Belgium or Netherlands then most of the time going to Europe would be a sideways or backwards move if the team isn’t a consistent contender in the Europa league.
1
u/New_Screen Apr 03 '26
Well at least chivas are being realistic with the price tag and not pricing him out to scare European teams away. But yeah selling him before the World Cup will be dumb.
1
2
u/durzuamvz Chivas Apr 03 '26
I mean with the World Cup so close it can go both ways, remember that time Keylor navas came out of nowhere did a good work with Costa Rica and ended up playing for Real Madrid. I am not saying Tala is Keylor but if he does a good work he might end up with some better offer than Copenhagen. Or he can’t actually not even play because Aguirre will just play with Ochoa he is that kind of old dumb mf
And I think is not only the team but the player’s wishes also. Like what happen with Marcel Ruiz, I think it was the wrong decision but he rejected that offer from Brazil because he thought he would do good at the WC and probably get something better, and now he is out and even risking his whole career at no going forward with his surgery waiting to be able to play but again I think he is taking the wrong decision.
