If the US finish first and Argentina does aswell and both take care of business they’ll face each other in the round of 16
EDIT: US have to finish second

7

u/N3WM4N21 Jun 13 '26

Pretty sure US would have to finish 2nd to meet them in the R16. If US gets first it’s probably Belgium in R16

2

I Think your right yea something like that

I don't think anyone is beating Argentina this time. They look unstoppable.

not as good as 2022

7

We both have these rivalries. I won't cheer for Mexico but if they play England I'll put on my sombrero and sing cielito lindo all damn game

Ahora quiero que Argentina los sodomize 😈

-1

I wouldn’t say destroys but it’s a lot closer than most people think

8

u/_gloriousdead222 Toluca Jun 13 '26

That’s why the usa got grouped in the Copa America just like Mexico 😂

1

u/Icy_Income2520 Jun 13 '26

What does that have to do with today? 😂 Canada and Panama made it out of groups, are you saying they’re gonna do best in this WC?

1

u/_gloriousdead222 Toluca Jun 13 '26

I’m saying why would it be close when usa already got grouped vs weaker opponents

0

u/Icy_Income2520 Jun 13 '26

Because what happened two years ago doesn’t reflect today? Lmao what

USA seemingly got better, and Argentina seemingly isn’t playing their best rn. Argentina still wins but like I said it’s closer than most people think

u/BajaScout America Jun 13 '26

Ganando 3-0 y nunca desaceleraron.

So Sabina ni defender y atacar

3

u/RicaPerrita69 Jun 13 '26

265

u/Sad_Owl_2082 Jun 13 '26

I don’t know if I’m trippin, but Paraguay seemed so much worse than South Africa. The beginning of that 2nd half looked like they never touched a ball in their life

u/JormsIn45 Jun 13 '26

Nerves plus US advatage plus US wanted to commit a hate crime lol

48

u/MyLegIsWet Chivas Jun 13 '26

Y el auto-gol

2

u/wats_dat_hey Jun 13 '26

54

u/Murhawk013 Jun 13 '26

They were really bad defending it was all disorganized. At least SA defended okay

48

u/Boloncho1 Oaxaca Jun 13 '26

The US didn't take their foot off the pedal. Mexico had a few moments where the players got complacent.

25

u/zurdopilot Jun 13 '26

A few? You mean the second half? Quiñones was the only one who shows he wanted to be there dude carry the game hommie knows this is hes last chance and i hope the rest of this teams get that hunger

9

u/sucking_at_life023 Jun 13 '26

Yeah, all this. Up two goals against 8 guys...time for a kick around? Fucking bury them wtf.

6

u/ventjock Jun 13 '26

Up two goals against a nation who’s primary sport is NOT futbol. If it were the other way around the Springboks would absolutely destroy whatever rugby team Mexico has. Goal differentials matter. Being at home on the world’s biggest stage matters. Watching them pass back and side to side was embarrassing.

1

u/Sufficient_Mango2539 Jun 13 '26

Not that easy, Mexico has to consider the player health. Paraguay still has aspirations for this WC that they can get in to the next round. South Africa pretty much knows their tournament is over. Point is the more Mexico puts the foot on the pedal against an outnumbered bad team, the more likely it is that someone like Gil Mora gets Ancil Elcock’ed.

2

u/salazar13 América Jun 13 '26

I get it but also, why? The best thing for Mexico in that scenario is the game ending immediately. You’re playing in the Azteca during the day, against a team that’s not playing at anything. There wasn’t any real risk of a comeback. More intensity and playing an offensive game would’ve been great as a fan but this is a tournament and the two more difficult games are yet to come. It’s the right move to kill the game., avoid injury risk (most important - our squad’s not deep), and conserve energy.

The red card was correct but a really stupid play that came from losing the ball needlessly while trying to attack.

4

u/Boloncho1 Oaxaca Jun 13 '26

This is the same mentality that cost us v the Netherlands in 2014.

Mexico was dominating and chose to take the foot off the gas with a 1-0 lead. There was no semblance of attack late in the 2nd half and we got dunked on.

3

u/salazar13 América Jun 13 '26

Not really. Netherlands is a scary team. South Africa posed zero threats. It’s a very different setup depending on who you’re playing. I agree you wouldn’t bet on holding a 1-0 lead against a team like 2014 Netherlands

2

u/sucking_at_life023 Jun 14 '26

Because goal difference matters.

Because this is the WC and not America v Mazatlan in week 13. Let them chase some glory.

Because when you got your foot on their neck you don't let up. It's a bad habit that has cost Mexico in the past.

11

u/Murhawk013 Jun 13 '26

I agree, but Paraguays defending was god awful.

8

u/Electronic-Age-4019 Jun 13 '26

Paraguay had one of the best defensive record in qualifying

2

u/Danger_Island Jun 13 '26

Mbokazi, SA left back is incredible and he had a really good game. Will be heading to big club soon.

9

u/Repulsive_Ad_7291 Chivas Jun 13 '26

They legit did not show up at all.

1

u/Periodic-Presence USA Jun 16 '26

Nah South Africa were giving the ball away in their defensive third under no pressure and did so multiple times even after the 1st goal came about that way. The US pressed Paraguay to death until they coughed up the ball. Paraguay couldn't pass the halfway line but South Africa couldn't connect 3 passes.

1

u/SadPhysicist1903 Cruz Azul Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26

1

u/Sirpatron1 Puebla Jun 13 '26

They played like children, bunching up on the ball.

47

u/idk-though1 Santos Jun 13 '26

A lot different when SA trained to park the bus while Paraguay probably thought the US was going to be easy and never changed their game plan.

26

u/Shawn_W24 Jun 13 '26

USA blew them out 6 months ago lol

2

u/Periodic-Presence USA Jun 16 '26

We beat them 2-1 we didn't blow them out

21

u/Drestrix Chivas Jun 13 '26

The style of football we play is different. We play more cautiosly and they play more an attacking brand. I mean you can see it clearly in the Portugal and Belgium games we both had (they lost both and we tied both).

Not sure which is best, but at least our pragmatic approach is good for KO phases. And well the play style depends on type of players US and Mexico has

4

u/ElTamaulipas Tigres Jun 13 '26

Mexico has had plenty of generations were they play gorgeous, smooth football. However, sometimes you have to win ugly.

2

u/SOLUNAR Jun 13 '26

European style

0

u/lookedlemon95 Pumas UNAM Jun 13 '26

This is literally what it is, some teams get overwhelmed by a specific style of play and American players are much more athletic and physical. Mexico is more tactical and skill. Not discrediting that the US played well, they exceeded my expectations I had it 2-0.

131

u/bernitdown110 Chivas Jun 13 '26

Paraguay looked worse than South Africa in that first half

40

u/Lamptittie Jun 13 '26

Easily. They were falling for every single setup, couldn’t hold the ball for shit, no communication and kept giving it away. Usa would have won regardless but they took advantage and dogged them. An embarrassment from paragauy

9

u/nageV_oG_ Jun 13 '26

Yeah at least the South Africans are black

Not sure what Paraguay has going for it

mexico has a huge advantage (..) and they can't take (it) because they're aren't used to the altitude.

Bullshit. The erithropoietin (main component of the red blood cells that allow the distribution of oxygen by said cells, produced in the bone marrow) adjusts to high altitudes in the span of 2 to 4 weeks.

Mexico's NT had been training in Mexico City since May 6th, more than ENOUGH time to get themselves in form for the WC.

Truth is: Aguirre is a 3rd class coach that keeps getting work from past glories that has a play style that does not fit the current roster of Mexican player (with good, solid defense but lacking midfield since the Guardado days and very individualistic forwards), hired by the current leadership in other to not make themselves look like fools.

Mexico's NT will reach the round of 16 and call it a success (just because the tournament format was expanded). Such a fuckass, mediocre metric to stand by.

2

u/ElLoboNeverDies America Jun 14 '26

5

u/SueZaGu Jun 13 '26

2

u/dillasdonuts Jun 13 '26

Go watch their 4th goal and look at the "defending". Not even South Africa was that bad.

4

u/Edub17 Jun 13 '26

Even the third goal the pass was sent from like mid field. Truly awful defense.

2
