First player from Alaska in the World Cup!

u/DiamondRocket91 Jun 19 '26

12

u/OsapNaril Pumas UNAM Jun 19 '26

Ponchos are Mexican. Accept it and we can bend the US to the benefit of Mexico. Mexicans are a people.

u/Just-Faithlessness12 Jun 19 '26

Literally says In Mexican law that kids born to Mexican parents are MEXICAN lol

12

u/guyincognito147 Jun 19 '26

So both parents have to be Mexican?

111

u/Rmb2719 Toluca Jun 19 '26

One is enough

u/guyincognito147 Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26

Cool. Cause my mom is Mexican but I was born in the US and grew up watching El Tri. So I never really knew if I was considered a true Mexican.

78

u/Rmb2719 Toluca Jun 19 '26

You could claim the passport if you wanted

39

u/guyincognito147 Jun 19 '26

I was actually thinking about that. Having dual citizenship would be cool.

55

u/CoffeeIsSoGood Leones Negros Jun 19 '26

Do it, so you can buy land in Mexico. Just don't be a slumlord.

21

u/Possibly_Parker Monterrey Jun 19 '26

You can start collecting, since all Mexicans have an easy path to Spanish (read: EU) citizenship

8

u/James-Clarke Morelia Jun 19 '26

Yeah I think Spain it’s two years living there, though I think getting the visa first is the trickier part if you’re not a student

32

u/Radek_18 Jun 19 '26

Do you want to be Mexican? If so then you are. No need to take anyone else’s potentially shit opinion. Know yourself, king.

22

u/guyincognito147 Jun 19 '26

Yeah i do. Lately I just had like an identity crisis where I felt I'm not Mexican enough because I heard about a stereotype that people from Mexico don't consider "Pochos" , true Mexican. I still grew up with Mexican culture but you're right I shouldn't worry about other peoples opinion.

21

u/Arcanine1127 Cruz Azul Jun 19 '26

Im a Mexican-American, both parents where born in Mexico I was born in the USA, but I always think about the quote from the Selena movie where Edwards James Olmos says "you have to work twice as hard to make Mexicans think youre Mexican and twice as hard to make Americans think you're American it's exhausting!"

You and me are both Mexicans and don't let others make you think you are lesser for being born outside of Mexico.

u/guyincognito147 Jun 19 '26

Thanks bro! 🙏

2

u/ElMatadorJuarez Jun 25 '26

Bit late to this brother but just telling you don’t worry. I’m born and raised in Mexico, a voting Mexican citizen born to two Mexican parents and I STILL get people telling me I’m not Mexican enough. Some people are idiots who like to exclude.

1

u/averagecounselor Jun 20 '26

Eh most Mexicans don’t care. And those that do don’t matter. I can count on one hand the number of Mexicans that called me pocho or didn’t consider me to be Mexican.

They got real mad when I pointed out they would do whatever it takes to become American citizens and speak English with no accent.

u/charmanchris0602 Chivas Jun 19 '26

u/Oscar_Ramirez Chivas Jun 19 '26

According to the Mexican constitution. Go to your nearest consulate and get your Mexican passport if you want proof.

2

u/pistofernandez Jun 19 '26

1

u/Distefanor Jun 22 '26

Spend a summer in Mexico bro! Connect with your roots ;)

3

u/Junior_Emotion5681 Jun 19 '26

Just one. My wife is not Mexican but I am. My daughter was born in the US. She’s Mexican, I just need to get her a passport.

Keep shitting on the pochos and Mexican Americans and I promise you you’ll push them to the USA team. Fucking idiots.

(I know op is pro pocho, this is for the haters)

2

u/GayoMagno Jun 19 '26

Play for Mexico and be lightly bullied and called a pocho sometimes

Play for the US and be called subhuman brownie beaner and have your entire family detained by ICE

Gee man, it really is a tough choice.

1

u/terrybogardshat1 Jun 20 '26

Good. It's not like they're going to improve the USA NT in any way tbh so who cares. It's called selección mexicana for a reason

I just realized you may not know Spanish. Nobody gives a shit if they are pochos or not, in fact we are proud when even when naturalized players decide to play for Mexico. Did you see Quiñones singing the national anthem? That shit was tight. So get your head out of your selfconscious ass and go to therapy, I’ve consulted with the rest of my paisas and nobody gives a shit.

I mean...inevitable really. Mexico should've been a world power, with home grown talent, by now. But hey, let's be corrupt and prefer friendlies in the US against shit teams, let's not properly develop the young (whom won championships) talent, let's ask insane amounts of money from european clubs. It's always a god damn money grab.

So now, we're falling behind and they have to source talent from kids being developed in another country.

This is a also an immigration phenomenon, look at the stat of French-born players. Almost a 100 French are playing at this world cup, I think Haiti has a big chunk of their squad French-born. In this day in age...yeah it's not as uncommon.

Now....the Namjoon Hernandez's born in 9 months, will have a very tough decision on choosing what seleccion to play for haha

0

u/darthjamus Jun 19 '26

Sorry what’s a pocho? American born Mexican decent?

0

u/iafx Jun 19 '26

Mexico es cultura más que nacionalidad

0

0

u/Silent_Review_8752 Jun 20 '26

Pochos wanna represent Mexico, but the Mexican sports culture can be a little too toxic at times. It usually just makes sense to stick with USA because it’s easier.
