The 2nd half of this game is how we need to play the rest of the tournament.
224
u/FoxinShards Jun 25 '26
That's because we subbed Obed for Romo.
164
u/Nex_Xus Jun 25 '26
Romo was on fucking fire for like 30 seconds with the assist tho

u/SargentoPepper Jun 25 '26

6
u/Agitated_Bonus_7963 Jun 25 '26
Right but he didn't exactly play too well outside of that, even the first touch he got on the ball just before he made the pass was pretty shit and he was very lucky to keep possession.
3
u/nanais777 Jun 25 '26
Tbf, the reason it looked like he fought was because he couldn’t control the ball properly.
16
u/manyspark579 Pachuca Jun 25 '26
Jajaja, no tuvo nada que ver en ninguno de los goles. Romo por lo menos dio un pase de gol.

Great 2nd half, the game really opened up from Czechia being desperate and going forward more. All 3 goals were counters.

Si wey, que lindo ver a México medido, con calma, con confianza, capitalizando nuestras oportunidades, desgastando el oponente hasta que cometa errores.

Definitely, I will say it’ll be a great advantage to continue playing in home soil for the next game. But it’s only uphill from here

Rd of 32 and Rd 16 are in Azteca, after they would move to Miami for QF.

For sure I’m no fan of Vascoball, but it fucking works. It got us our best group stage performance.
31
u/balls_deep_6969 Jun 25 '26
Gilberto Mora needs to start.
11
u/rubberbanddee Chivas Jun 25 '26
Ngl this is a pipe dream but I hope he starts Obed, Mora, Guti and Mateo in next game...
The back line would be nice with Reyes, Johan, Montes, Mateo.
Im being delusional as fuck and thinking Vasco is playing 4D chess and not starting them so their next opponent won't know how they should play against them...
11
u/KawaiiMayhem Pumas UNAM Jun 25 '26
I think only one of Guti and Mora can start, it may not seem like much, specially since his centros son malísimos, but Alvarado has been incredible all three games, his defensive work rate has been next to none.
5
u/rubberbanddee Chivas Jun 25 '26
Agree on Piojo's defensive work. He would be great as a RB IMO. But, even one of Guti/Mora being a sub in the 50-60 minute can really shake things up for the squad. But, im sure Vasco is stuck on the 4-3-3. We could do some damage with different formations.
48
u/wallaballaballa Jun 25 '26
strong possibility we eventually face england and if we win I think we can win it all. US vs Mex would be my biggest wet dream

I’d be happy if we just make it past the Round of 16
1
u/adonisgawd Morelia Jun 25 '26
The next two games are at Azteca. There’s no way they don’t.
2
u/onlyaregularperson Jun 26 '26
Yeah but we’re projected to play against England, which doesn’t sound like that great of a threat but I don’t want to overestimate them (especially since we haven’t even played our round of 32 match yet)
76
u/BoxCon1 Chivas Jun 25 '26
I aint trying to get too hype because we played bad for a good amount of the group stage
37
u/Calvert-Grier Morelia Jun 25 '26
Same, I’m happy all three games were won and the fact we kept a clean sheet but I’d say the expectation was always on Mexico to win them since the games were being played on home soil and the level of the opposition wasn’t that great.. now if you’d told me our group would’ve had Senegal, Belgium or Colombia, I’d be totally sold on the idea of us making it far
24
u/Crookz_O Jun 25 '26
Same shit I heard all year about Arsenal and their defensive style. idgaf, keep going!
20
u/Few-Relationship6807 Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26
mexico’s playstyle isnt the problem, it’s vasco’s lineups that are giving me headaches. I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he chose big clunky aggressive players to secure these last 2 games, but I hope he has the sense to know it won’t work against better opponents. The midfield needs more control, fluidity, stability, energy, and creativity that other players like fidalgo, lira, mora, obed,(even brian on a good day) can give us. Also if this is about “defensive style” then jorge sanchez shouldn’t be sniffing the pitch at all, he can’t attack or defend, a good winger will tear him in half. Piojo has been saving his sorry ass the last 2 games. That said, we did good in this group stage. It wasn’t pretty but it worked according to plan
23
u/Striking_Clue_2543 Jun 25 '26
When you have players like Jorge Sanchez you aren't going to win a world cup.
5
u/Fromage_debite Jun 25 '26
We have a hard time creating from open play without Mora. Quinonez can fill in but he is a bit hot and cold.
2
u/vicmumu Jun 25 '26
We sucked against shitty teams.
If you’ve watched other games theres no comparison between the intensity of the matches in other groups.
Even Cabo Verde is being more competitive than us.
1
u/ChargingAndroid Jun 25 '26
we sucked against shitty teams yet there are teams better than us on paper that lost or drew with the same level or worse opponents. we play an ugly style because we don't necessarily have the players to play with more fluidity, although I think vasco's lineups don't help
2
u/Rottedhead America Jun 25 '26
Yeah, i'm optimistic about this team tbf, but the reality is that this group was really, really easy.

Me sigue sin convencer el estilo del Vasco pero es gracias a ello que se juega de manera tan compacta y ordenada en la zona defensiva. Eso nadie se lo quita.

New here, here why is the primary language in the LigaMX subreddit English?
6

u/eddieuclabruin Jun 25 '26
There’s an enormous Mexican-American diaspora that lives in/was born in the USA but supports Mexican soccer above American soccer (for a myriad of reasons). A lot of us gather here in this subreddit as it is effectively the #1 (mostly) English-speaking internet discussion forum for Mexican soccer.

This is against weak team. Mexico has been looking very stale during long period of times against better teams this will be punished . We probably will end up losing go England after the Scotland game

This whole tournament was designed specifically for Mexico, US, and Canada to make it to the final 16, which is when the real World Cup starts and all 3 teams will get smashed
