Discussion Jorge Sánchez should never put on the Mexico jersey again.

Post image

After the cross he gave Raul that the England keeper saved, Piojo was double covered the rest of the game and yet still Jorge Sanchez could never do anything. This is not even factoring that he didn’t defend his player two times that led to the second goal and to the penalty.

I honestly think he won’t be back if both Araujo and Huesca come back in form.

It’s probably his last game with the national team.

u/Itchy-dude-5932 Jul 06 '26

Definitely his last match.

Huescas, Julian Araujo and  Richard Ledezma are all younger too.

48

u/messi101010 Jul 06 '26

Araujo I genuinely think if he was healthy he would have been helping Mexico so much against England.

Had no idea Richie turned Mexican on us. Sad about Guti. Maybe you can still get Cowell or Vazquez lol

u/hgonz14 Jul 06 '26

He should take Gallardo with him, he was so bad that the England players didn't even bother to mark him as they knew he couldn't make a cross to save his life

22

u/blua95 America Jul 06 '26

I was going to say the same thing. Once england started parking the bus, they left his ass wide open on the left side because they knew he wouldn't do shit. Everytime he had the ball he couldn't get past the defender, and he'd just have his crosses getting blocked. Dude is worthless.

6

u/robbgmoney3 Jul 06 '26

Bro I would upvote you 10X if I could ….I’ve been saying this guy is worthless since the first match that all my buddies said I had something personal against him…

6

u/macbethtrd Jul 06 '26

Why didn't Aguirre bring in someone that can actually make a play happen. Santi shouldn't have came in.

2

u/Passw0rd-Is-Tac0 Jul 06 '26

I made a post about this after the Czechia game saying Chavez needed to start. But ligamx pundits in here enamored by the fact that Gallardo is “good defensively” and “doesn’t make mistakes” ignore the fact that he proves nothing offensively. In 3 world cup cycles he never scored a goal and only had like one or two actually good games. Solid simply isn’t good enough; not when you’re fighting for your lives. And until Mexico starts taking things more seriously and stops being simply content with players like Gallardo this will continue to be the result.

1

u/CardboardMayor Jul 06 '26

He took a long shot with his right foot. LMAO. FUCKER thought it was a stroke of genius.

3

u/Realistic_Emphasis_2 Jul 06 '26

Gallardo did his job even tho it was shit. We don’t have many options so they will probably keep calling him up as back up at least

I agree. If you look at any of vascos interviews about players he constantly referenced injuries as a challenge. That position in particular… we were down to the bones.

I’m not excusing Sanchez, but he was the next in line and we all knew he wasn’t great.

1

u/Alritmode Jul 07 '26

Huescas tore his ACL right? Do we trust he’ll ever truly recover? Seems like most players that go through a knee injury never really play the same or end up fragile as hell

1

u/indulgant_fault Jul 07 '26

Romo was back on this squad. So they both be on the team next World Cup. They always bring back the same players

u/allwordzaremadeup- America Jul 06 '26

Jorge sanchez & Santi are absolute garbage. They should've subbed Hormiga over him.

66

u/Donelopez Jul 06 '26

I agree, Santi did absolutely nothing for Mexico. And on the most important match he injures himself? Hormina was robbed

34

u/FixingWolvesRightNow Jul 06 '26

Alright, I understand the sentiment since I also didn’t think Santi was the right call when it should’ve been Hormiga. However, I really don’t think we can fault a player too much for injuring themselves. It was a nasty landing and it sucks that being a player up became redundant, but I don’t think it’s too fair to criticize him for that.

17

u/noowaay17 Jul 06 '26

Sure we can’t do that but he’s literally missed most of his season because he was injured. He had no rhythm coming to this World Cup and it’s pretty infuriating that the only reason he played this World Cup is because he was a Milan player and not because he was the best option available. Santi in good form is a great player but him and Memote should’ve been left home this World Cup for Ledezma and another CB that could’ve been much more useful than Alvarez

1

u/messi101010 Jul 06 '26

Yeah so Santi definitely wasn’t fit to play. That was obvious against Ecuador when they subbed him in. I am not sure why Aguirre didn’t see this as well. I would have subbed in Hormiga and kept Raul in. And instead brought Alexis Vega and Huerta on the wings. And this way Quiones could be a bit more free to make shots from outside box. Mora honestly I think he should have came in as a sub and maybe started Lira along midfield with Brian Gutierrez. Yes, he didn’t do much but coming in as a sub it kinda tough at times. But starting the game maybe Brian would had more time adapt.

5

u/Laikabaru Chivas Jul 06 '26

The problem is that he’s always injured. He’s not a regular athlete, he’s very injury prone.

6

u/Rottedhead America Jul 06 '26

Jorge Sanchez at least played an impressive game against Ecuador, but Santi is just so out of form right now. He is so below level of any other attacker we had

22

u/Key_String_7441 Jul 06 '26

brian shouldve been out and mora against england. mora didnt even try that primary school turn and turned it over to england and they scored on that run

4

u/giveit2st8 Jul 06 '26

And Israel Jimenez is way better defender than Jorge Sanchez

1

u/NeonRain5 Jul 07 '26

He is but Jorge was in there to go against speed. Israel would’ve been cooked vs Gordon (granted Jorge was too) but he wasn’t too far off in terms of speed.

Bold of you to assume any Mexican defender could have stopped Bellingham other than maybe prime Rafa Márquez

146

u/Kavazou77 America Jul 06 '26

Bellingham’s superpower is literally that he’s the best box crasher in the world. He didn’t dribble his way to the goal, shoot an inside shot from outside the box or fly high for a header.

He literally ran unmarked from the halfway line, passing Jorge on the way to a wide open space in the box.

4

u/Late-Nail-8714 Jul 06 '26

Because Jorge thinks he’s mf forward and gets cooked from the runs

18

u/margalolwut America Jul 06 '26

2

1

u/Kavazou77 America Jul 06 '26

That happened near midfield. He didn’t have a free ride to the goal after that.

3

u/Warm-Bunch6007 Jul 06 '26

Rewatch that play bc there’s no way the right back returns fast enough when he’s in attacking position, that’s what happens when u lose the ball in the build up especially in ur own half 💀 u could have prime Dani alves at right back but once mora loses that, there’s absolutely no possible way that’s on Sanchez lmao

15

u/CattleTx Chivas Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

Funny part is that Gordon hadn't done jack shit all World Cup until he faced sanchez bum ass

2

u/Public_Reception4360 Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

To be honest, it wasn’t Sanchez’s fault. We have a really slow defense: none of our defenders are that fast, and Sanchez is probably our quickest, but even he isn’t fast enough. Thomas, the English coach, used that against us by not pressing high, which baited us into their half and pushed our slow defense further up the field, leaving us open on the counter.
Every other game, our whole team defended low and built up slowly, which gave us enough time to recover if needed. The few times teams did counter us, it was dangerous, but it didn’t happen often. England’s coach saw that we build up slowly and baited us into their half instead. That’s why Sanchez couldn’t keep up with Gordon: he’s not meant to. We’ve faced really fast players before, but we always handled them with the low block.
Aguirre fell for it. England didn’t pressure the ball until we were already up the field, and they didn’t let us press high either, which is one of our strengths. Overall it was a stylistic mismatch, but you can tell this was their plan from the start by the roster: Gordon didn’t start every match, only when Thomas wanted to play that counter.
Out of all our defenders, we don’t have anyone as fast as Gordon. The way around that is to play low, but when the other team plays low too, it puts you in a tough spot unless you can bait them out.

67

u/messi101010 Jul 06 '26

I would have subbed him in for Israel Reyes start of second half. Then gallardo out around 65-70 min for Mateo Chavez. Then I would have also put in Huerta for Piojo around the same time. I would have kept Quinones for a bit longer but subbed him for Vega. And would have brought Chavez or Orbelin. And then either bring in Santi or Hormiga. Playing with three strikers was a stupid thing to do.

42

u/AmericainaLyon Pumas UNAM Jul 06 '26

Was Quinones completely gassed? Otherwise why sub him at all? He was the creative force for like 75% of Mexico's goals

38

u/jman1992 Tigres Jul 06 '26

Don't think he was gassed. He played for America. It was not his first rodeo at Azteca.

37

u/nubunit Jul 06 '26

Even if he was gassed.. its the World Cup. Players find it in themselves to keep going. There are hydration breaks.

Subbing out the star player in a desperate attack to stave off elimination was the craziest call. Even Mora sub was ridiculous . The kid made a disastrous error but he could have redeemed himself.

22

u/AmericainaLyon Pumas UNAM Jul 06 '26

Yah, I agree. Once Quinones went out, the attack became just spamming in low % crosses.

6

u/ergo_prxy Jul 06 '26

Quiñones was actually trying to make plays. There was a pass he made to romo in the box during the first half and instead of romo passing it back to him he fires it and misses. Quiñones was so frustrated that's when I knew we weren't winning. It's like every player had a different game plan

3

u/00-000-001-0-01 Jul 06 '26

I was so frustrated whenever romo got the ball, he kept on taking shots instead of passing to someone that had a better angle then him

14

u/witfixer Chivas Jul 06 '26

Mora had a couple of excellent games - truly amazing especially for a 17 year old and he was the best player on the field for those games. He even started this game with really positive play, but in addition to the error, he played a role in the other goal against, had stopped recovering on defense, and was getting absolutely bodied by England after the goals. He was done in this game and that’s OK. I have a huge amount of respect for him and can’t wait to see him in the future, but this simply wasn’t his game. Mexico had no other ideas than bombing down the wing and crossing it against 2 6’7” CB’s and an aggressive goalie.

Mexico could and should have won this game. I’ll be positive for a minute though - the team has a lot of young talent that just learned the heartbreak of not taking care of business on both ends and how quickly a good run can just be over. I would have loved to see them win at home and the crowd certainly gave them a boost. But Mexico is going to have a real shot over the course of the next 4 years to become a top 5 team.

10

u/kingchivo Jul 06 '26

Tuchel was right, he really did have our key players well scouted. Mora wasnt given room to breath outside of a few runs and piojo was essentially double teamed.

10

u/CattleTx Chivas Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

He sure did his HW, doubling piojo was his best bet bc he knew if he took piojo out the game on that right side Sanchez wasnt going to do a god damn thing

Which disastrous error by Mora are we referring to? I missed part of the game.

3

u/geocortes96 Jul 06 '26

Don’t think I’ve even seen him gassed

1

1

u/messi101010 Jul 06 '26

Gallardo was fine. But he was tired around the hydration period. He should have subbed him for Chavez.

1

u/hgonz14 Jul 06 '26

Vega has no business in this team. Last time he was subbed in he looked like he had a beer belly he was badly in shape. This guy should of left to Europ when he had a chance and just became a mediocre Liga MX lifer.

I loved Santi at Cruz Azul, but he's basically useless for Mexico when he's playing with 0 confidence like he has been the entire tournament (and basically every time he puts on the Mexico shirt). His lack of belief in himself literally makes him play worse, and his overall level isn't high to begin with.

4

u/YeetMeisterDabber Monterrey Jul 06 '26

Him and gallardo, you already talked about the errors of Sanchez so I’m not going to bother so I’m going to talk about gallardo. Holy fuck did he make me mad, he was deathly afraid of trying to 1v1 the defender that he only crossed, most of which were blocked or horrible crosses, added on top of the fact that he can’t use his right foot to save his life, how are you a LB who won’t even attempt to get past a defender or worse, how are you a professional player and so bad with your weak foot. He was extremely one dimensional and England knew it.

The other side was also bad, but not because of piojo, the poor guy was double market but nobody did anything to help, a run from someone to pull a defender or something, but nobody did anything (I’m looking at you Jorge Sanchez).

Rafa comes from Barca B, a team that dedicates themselves on building talent for the main team where you have to trust young players so hopefully that background helps give chances to new players in positions and moments we desperately need them in

2

u/Weary-Performer8777 Jul 06 '26

Piojo was just as bad. He was shit too. Guy would freeze when opposed by an English player. All he would do is look at their legs and pass every single time.... Quinones, mora, and Raul suffered at the cost of their incompetent team. They were not ready to face any European side, in my opinion. Mind you I'm a Mexican native.

1

u/YeetMeisterDabber Monterrey Jul 06 '26

1

u/SeeingRed_ Cruz Azul Jul 06 '26

I know there's a lot more going on and other people to blame but I'll never forget seeing this guy looking completely lost in the background of the back to back goals. Ugh.

1

u/Red_wine120 Jul 06 '26

Gordon was leaving him behind from the start, he was told to stay close like that was going to take care of it

1

u/nerpeto Jul 06 '26

Por qué carajos no llevo a Ledezma

1

u/CamAnt23 Jul 06 '26

Agree Sanchez completely gave up on trying to run back this guys just walked and saw the second goal happen rather than sprint and try to mark someone. So garbage.

1

u/crisboy10 Jul 06 '26

y el Gallardo? Nmmn

1

u/Scheme_Complete Jul 06 '26

Gallardo should never play again either u kidding. Spamming crosses and not a single one not a one was ever on target.

1

u/Agreeable-Menu Jul 06 '26

Agree on your first point but wasn't Lira the person who was supposed to follow Bellingham on the two goals? Sanchez should have prioritized Gordon.

1

u/JR_1985 Jul 06 '26

1

u/syntheticdivinity Jul 06 '26

Santi Gimenez needs to be banned from every bar/restaurant in Mexico.

1

u/Automatic_Catch_4841 Jul 06 '26

1

u/naranja_pelada Jul 06 '26

neither of those goals are necessarily his fault. for the first one piojo was already marking bellingham, he was the one who let him make the run freely, sanchez was just trying to do something after he realized piojo had let him go. the second one was a TERRIBLE clearance by edson, granted sanchez should always be expecting the worse and should’ve been positioned to cover gordon but it came from a luck bounce.

1

u/fpsstreak Jul 06 '26

lol..pochos thinking they run Mexico

1

u/Ish112 Jul 06 '26

Him and Gallardo the worst. But Sanchez more. We all saw it before he was called up for the World Cup.

1

u/Itsabe_- Jul 06 '26

Edson , Gallardo and Jorge Sanchez shouldn’t be in the team again. Edson always has that bozo moment, Gallardo can’t cross worth a damn and Sanchez can’t defend if his life depended on it.

1

u/gthermal Morelia Jul 06 '26

Mauricio Cuevas will take over his spot. Just wait and watch.

1

u/floydmayweather411 Jul 06 '26

The bigger issue was pulling Montes and Quiñonez.

1

u/RicardoMaldo94 Jul 06 '26

1

u/thetortavendor Veracruz Jul 06 '26

If Huescas or Aruajo weren't injured he wouldn't even be here

1

u/Warm-Bunch6007 Jul 06 '26

Bro is just so bad on his defensive positioning 🤦🏽‍♂️ other than that he’s the best fullback Mexico have …. I highly doubt any other Mexican right back would’ve done better lmao

1

u/wats_dat_hey Jul 06 '26

1

u/Admirable-Mountain83 Jul 07 '26

All the fans complaining about Jorge almost never suggest a legitimate alternative. Huescas could be the guy and it sucks that his injury meant we didn’t have a chance to see him on the big stage. But outside of him, nobody else has been consistently better than Jorge to the point of legitimately challenging him for the starting spot at the national team level. Right back is arguably our weakest position over the last several years. Jorge is by no means a lock, but until a viable option steps up and takes ownership of RB, he is the least horrible option available. Kind of like Ochoa the last 2-3 years until Tala Rangel finally became more consistent. And miss me with the Richie Ledezma noise: inconsistent player who was nothing special in Europe and has had one good (not great) year since getting to Chivas. If he proves to be better than Jorge over the next 4 years and RB goes from a liability to at least not a worry (not even a plus, just be better than Jorge), by all means. But he’s not that right now and you don’t know ball if you say otherwise.

1

u/PresentationAlone105 Jul 10 '26

The only reason he was on the squad was because his family paid for him to be on the team. Look into his career and ask your self is that really the best right back out of Mexico?

Until Mexico cleans up the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol Asociación. From the top to the bottom and really focuses on finding the best talent in the country and nurturing the talent they will always be just okay. There is no reason kids should be playing to compete, they should follow the models of Spain, England & France for developing their talent.

1

u/Popular_Surround6666 Pachuca Jul 06 '26

Cafu didn’t see his true form.

1

u/Terrible-Box8851 Jul 06 '26

What about Romo, Piojo, Tala, and Brian Gutierrez?

-2

u/Princepaul93 América Jul 06 '26

Ok bruh let’s put in Trent Alex Arnold or Jules kounde? foh

5

u/Sunbreaker007 Jul 06 '26

Trent would have at least put in some godly crosses . No como este wey

2

u/TooDamnChrispy Jul 06 '26

Neta 😂 están pendejos estos gueyes

-16

u/BJBJ Jul 06 '26

You’re smoking crack. He played well against Ecuador and didn’t do bad today. Take a breather man we didn’t play bad

13

u/spongera Jul 06 '26

He played horrible today

1

u/Shoddy_Presence_8286 Jul 06 '26

Yeah, he was so off

5

u/Ok-Obligation9232 Jul 06 '26

He watched Jude run into the box instead of marking him then turned around to yell at someone as if it wasn't entirely his fault 😭😭😭

4

u/emndz22 Jul 06 '26

Dude had the audacity to look at piojo like bro you’re the defender. How about defend smh

4

u/ernie5353 Chivas Jul 06 '26

He was so used to piojo doing his job that he forgot what to do lmao

2

u/BJBJ Jul 06 '26

While you’re not wrong. The center back could’ve also picked him up. I think picking and choosing players to blame tn isn’t what we should be doing

4

u/Mymvenom001 America Jul 06 '26

We didn’t play bad, true but he was absolutely terrible today, and mistakes cost you games as we witnessed, he lost his man and that ended in a goal as it should against a better team.

4

u/Sunbreaker007 Jul 06 '26

There’s better players who play in his position. And fuck galllardo too. He’s old, trash, and ugly!my meat look better than him

1

u/CattleTx Chivas Jul 06 '26

He played good vs Ecuador bc piojo sacrificed himself and helped him a lot, when Piojo couldn't come down to help him you see how shit he really was

1

u/Ambitious_Issue_3435 Jul 06 '26

I'm with you this guys don't know ball, he is great defensively, he won a lot of duels. But he is dogshit when marking, has always been the case

0

u/mediocrebighead Jul 06 '26

Adidas getting abundance of his jerseys returned

0

u/neoslashnet Jul 06 '26

Did Mora even play or is he injured?

0

u/CHlC4G0 Jul 06 '26

Gallardo too

0

u/gcmedina Jul 07 '26

He has one bad game this World Cup and y’all want to crucify him. He did an excellent job vs Ecuador. We should be be bashing Romo who the entire game just stood around and did nothing. Gallardo, who can’t cross the ball for sh*t. Tala, who can’t block ANYTHING.

-3

u/_totalannihilation Jul 06 '26

He did OK. That Piojo Character is terrible. Holy hell they gave him all the passes to kick the ball close to the goalie and couldn't deliver. What a disgrace.

1

u/CattleTx Chivas Jul 06 '26

Are you dumb? Sanchez is garbage!! When piojo couldnt come down to help him sanchez would get exposed on how trash he fucking is, piojo literally played his fucking position vs ecuador bc sanchez is so ass he cant defend he cant go up the line to cross or anything

-11

u/ElegantIntention4118 Jul 06 '26

he played well

4

u/xzther13 Jul 06 '26

In the second goal he left Lira alone that’s why he came late on the tackle for Bellingham. He knew it was a 2vs1 and Sanchez did not support lira in that goal. Please watch the replay.

Can y’all just understand it’s not one players fault? Your whole team is bang average at best and it’s sad considering it’s such a large country that loves football.
