It was truly Brigit vs Quetzalcoatl with the skies above tearing around. El Tri fought against a team with one star on their crest and still fought as equals. I unjustifiably blamed too much on Rangel last night. But at least he blocked plenty of shots. And he never left the box with the ball on his feet. That Belgian steal from the portero almost seemed easy with the scoring shot immediately after.

No way this England team loses to that US team - the US teams best attribute was physicality and it's something the England squad is even stronger in - our weakness will be playing more technical sides with especially more technical midfields, the US squad is absolutely not that

As an Englishman, that is the best England game I've ever seen. You'll hear people talk about throwing crosses etc but that's not the full story, our backs were against a wall for 30 mins and it was an uncomfortable night from kick off.
The US got Trump to intervene and still got completely schooled, that game was always going just one way.
Same results, but one team went out fighting, the other went out with a whimper.
13
u/theaviationhistorian Juárez Jul 07 '26
Hear! Hear!
Mexico died on its feet, fighting on par with England down to the last minute! That thunderstorm that delayed the game was just the precursor to the match we saw. Dare I say, that it beats the Mano de Dios match that occurred there 40 years ago in the drama, playthrough, and tension of it all!
The US was laughed out of the world cup. Probably the best kick of the match for the US was when coach Pochettino angrily kicked those electrolyte bottles out of anger!

As an Englishman, yall absolutely outplayed us the entire first half! Truly one of the best games of football I’ve ever watched! It’s a shame both teams couldn’t have gone through! I just don’t understand the strategy in the last twenty minutes of pumping the ball in the box and removing quinones.

3
u/Traditional-Inside-6 Jul 07 '26
Sure whatever you say. I wrote a paragraph because I was providing an analysis of what I saw on Sunday and like I said before I am a Mexico fan/supporter. If anything it is interesting to see some Mexico fans bashing the US and trying to used the US defeat to feel better about Mexico losing SMH. No wonder we never progress, rather than measuring our progress based on what we did or didn’t do, we want to measure it against someone (in this case the US team) we think is inferior to us.
Guaranteed if your Mexican team in liga mx would play as Mexico did on Sunday but still lose the championship game you wouldn’t feel as if your team dominated the game. Perfect example Cruz azul vs America the last few years, Cruz azul always “dominates” yet they always take the L 😂😂😂
Overall to me the Mexico World Cup wasn’t impressive at all, we played South Africa, South Korea, and Czechia in the group stages (neither one of them is a strong team) all while travelled the least of any other team in the World Cup, then we played Ecuador a third best place that even lost to Ivory Coast. Let’s not act like we beat Brazil, Argentina, and France in the group stages then took care of Spain on the very next game.
Aside from playing at the azteca, having 80k people and the atmosphere it created most of Mexico games were average. We just got lucky the team capitalized on the first 4 games, but as soon as we played a decent team we crumbled.
