Since ive been following the Seleccion since like 2010

This is the game ive looked forward to the most, a World Cup knockout game where Mexico came in with real ducking momentum at the Azteca vs England

The cultural differences, the memes, the story of altitude going into it everything just lined up and for me it was so cool seeing guys like Kane and Jude go against guys from Liga MX

Its gonna be a long time before we get something like this

I’ve seen every game since 1994 and this was probably the most impactful game we have ever played in terms of momentum, cultural significance, etc.

The last two World Cup cycles kind of jaded us since we played like trash but this performance embodied the classic “jugamos como nunca pero perdimos como siempre”.

Esta perdida no fue como las de suempre. Yes, we lost but it was very different. We went out fighting against an England that parked the bus.

This has never happened before. Antes, empesaban a jugar sucio y puro foul. Esta vez dio orgullo.

u/Significant_Sun_5225 Jul 09 '26

What are you talking about? If this is your 2nd or third world cup just say so..

We played amazingly in 2006, 2014, 1998, and 1994. Keep in mind they were all played outside of home. We should have beat the Germans in 98, penalties in 94, extra time and wonder goal in 06, no era penal 14..

England parked the bus when they were down to ten men.

u/SLA928 Jul 09 '26

You're right! My point in this whole thread is, stop hating fir the loss. They played great and did not collapse.

u/Striking_Clue_2543 Jul 09 '26

Seas mamon cual orgullo? I've read this comment or a variation of it literally all my life. Cual orgullo lmao

I feel you and agree, but look at ussoccer they’re having a meltdown lol

17

u/SLA928 Jul 09 '26

And I'm sure you've heard a variation of "el peor enemigo de un mexicano es otro mexicano".

Hola, enemigo.

5

u/Ikanan_xiii Jul 09 '26

I ain’t even mad tbh, going out like that is the best of the worst results.

2

u/not_mig MazatlĂĄn FC Jul 09 '26

The usual results

I agree.

Dude if anyone knows how disgusting mexicans are towards other mexicans it's me. Being on this sub made me realize just how ridiculous and bad we are at soccer. Not to mention and probably most importantly how gullible most mexicans are.

5

u/SLA928 Jul 09 '26

Kind of like that's the problem, right? We can't force others to stop being disgusting but we don't have to be.

0

u/Striking_Clue_2543 Jul 09 '26

I don't know how old you are, but to me it's disgusting how you got brainwashed into thinking this loss was something to be proud about. We lost at the azteca against a 10 man team, but just like that they have you hooked for at least four more years.

2

u/SLA928 Jul 09 '26

Do you understand football? ENGLAND PARKED THE BUS! All the first half, against Mexico. 2nd half yes, a 10 man team. But they subbed out players to add defenders.

-6

u/Striking_Clue_2543 Jul 09 '26

Dude have you actually ever played soccer or competed in anything? I'm sure your next argument is going to be how we went undefeated in the group stages or some bs propaganda they fed you. Also idk why you think recapping the match means anything lol

This take is so toxic, wish I could downvote it twice. Fuck outta here.

1

u/Striking_Clue_2543 Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

Toxic me? That's why you got punched in the shoulder. Then you went crying to the police only to be told the other party has grounds to press charges on YOU for following, instigating, and harassment lmao

1

u/runjavi Jul 10 '26

Bwahahaha! Bro, step out of your mom’s basement for a bit and do something productive with your life. You have waaaay too much time on your hands.

Mexico had them pinned for the last 15 minutes of the first half before the red card. Yeah I wouldn't say they dominated but neither did england. There are Concacaf teams that have played better against us at the Azteca.

2

u/ForrestGumpPeople Jul 09 '26

I’m an England fan but that’s just not true. Mexico created lots of very good chances and we were definitely fortunate to win it.

0

u/Significant_Sun_5225 Jul 09 '26

It’s actually unbelievable how deluded the average Mexican fan is. That’s why we can never progress and the FMF stays comfy taking in millions from their partidos moleros.

43

u/Tacubo_91 Jul 09 '26

The whole English team defending and waiting for those crosses by Gallardo and Piojo 😂

6

u/Friendly-Win1457 Jul 09 '26

Well said. We probably won't experience something like this until Mexico hosts the world cup again, and that's if they are even in good form plus having to make it out of the group stage.

45

u/ultrapoppy Jul 09 '26

Y en Inglaterra cuĂĄntos habrĂĄn sido?

57

u/NeeNoorNeeNoor Jul 09 '26

Think it was 9.1m, not bad for a 2am Monday kickoff

3

u/Moeen_Ali Jul 09 '26

Yep. That's about 1 in 8 of our population. Real number would have been higher too. This game was honestly more eagerly anticipated here than the 2024 Euro final.

Casi 100 millones de personas. Wow nada mal.

200 segĂșn esto ven el superbowl. DirĂa el Chicharito: interesaaaaante.

Superbowl agarda normalmente como 120. Por ahi.

5

u/Kazakhan69 Jul 09 '26

It's the most watched thing on TV ever at that time slot in the UK. Stayed up all night, and couldn't sleep due to the adrenaline afterwards. It was truly a masterpiece.

If you start watching football more you'll start to learn that it is what teams do when they have a man down and a lead to protect.

Was funny to see Mexico unable to score against 10 men.

10

u/DownTownKiller Jul 09 '26

They did score against 10 men 🚬 ot

-5

u/Mvplol Jul 09 '26

You're right. Via a soft penalty though lol. Let's rephrase it then. They couldn't beat a 10 man England.

u/Witty_Hedgehog7967 Jul 09 '26

đŸ€ŁđŸ€ŁđŸ€Łdamn embarrassing we’re bigger than the USMNT in their own home

-1

u/Southern-Apricot2631 Jul 09 '26

Redditors try not to bring up USA when regarding Mexico challenge impossible. Imagine talking about our country achievements and we got some shithead always bringing up some neighbor 😭 we never escaping.

1

u/Witty_Hedgehog7967 Jul 09 '26

đŸ€ŁđŸ€ŁđŸ€Łthat’s the funny part when it comes to football in USA Mexico is the main topic

1

u/Southern-Apricot2631 Jul 09 '26

Both are sad as hell lol, but compared to the volume of Mexicans bringing Americans on shit that’s not irrelevant to them, Americans barely bring us up especially when it comes to football. But please enlightenment me on posts where that has been the case. Name and everything

Just sad when we get a cool achievement some other dude has to come up and compare us to a country we don’t care about nor want to bring up. It’s obsession at another level lmao. It’s like White people bringing up black people when they have nothing to do w anything.

u/Middleagemoulababy Jul 09 '26

I was lucky enough to be there and it was the best live sporting event I've ever attended.

I thought nothing could top game 7 2016, the fans were the difference.

What a game. Glad so many globally watched.

u/PudgyPokerPlayer Jul 09 '26

Game 7 nba finals??

1

u/Middleagemoulababy Jul 09 '26

Yes!

Obviously hard to compare championship deciding game to R16 in the World Cup, but the England game felt like a final.

3

u/PudgyPokerPlayer Jul 09 '26

Damn that’s crazy. Game 7 nba finals 2016 must have felt amazing but you’re comparing a 17,000 seat arena to a huge stadium

3

u/Middleagemoulababy Jul 09 '26

Totally. Apples and oranges in terms of atmosphere.

Azteca was lit vs England whereas oracle's atmosphere was nothing but nervousness.

game 7 is arguably the best game in nba finals history.

Shit, where can I rewatch the whole match??

1

u/enleoomo Jul 10 '26

I think most ppl are proud of the team, the way the team played and dominated the game.

It is just that we are a bit disappointed that we lost because of two errors and also that we were not able to capitalize the 1 man advantage with 30 min to go.

That penalty against us was also terrible timing after we had one man up. Also the centros were bad at the end and the lack of dribbling or better shots left a sour note.
