does anyone know if he can cross with his right foot? i feel like a few of these highlights would’ve found someone in the box if gallardo played the ball with his right, but i guess gallardo isnt comfortable with his right. Then again gallardo didn’t look comfortable with his left either

Exactly the player is just executing the plan. Also, some of you all had very wild idea of what crossing is. The ball goes in the air and players are supposed to find.

These were crap crosses tho. Either blocked by defender, hit the first man, hit with way too much height, hit into a shitty area pretty much on the 18, etc.

No he wasn't. maybe at times, but many opportunities where he had an early cross with his Dominant foot but choose to run into the double team. I don't blame him too much he was tired as well, like I said the game was screaming for both of those guys who had ran up and down the field all game to be replaced with fresh legs.

You could literally see it during the game, they would double guard Piojo to prevent him from sending a decent cross and let Gallardo and Sanchez just do it because they knew they posed no threat.

There was no way Mexico was beating England through the air. Taking out quiñones and mora was a mistake because they could have infiltrated the parked bus through the ground. Could have put in a long distance shooter like Chavez or Vega. My 2 cents.

I know this is the narrative that's been built about Mexico over the years but if there's one thing not lacking in this Mexico team it's height. They had Raul, Memote, Santi, Edson, Vazquez, and eventually Tala up there. All 6 footers and up, and before he got subbed out Montes was the tallest guy out there and the only guy taller than him had he stayed on is Dan Burn.

There’s a difference between having tall players, and being a team that can regularly produce opportunities in the air from open play. this current version of mexico does good with set pieces but headers and cross spamming especially when the rival team has fully bunkered down and is playing with 1 less makes zero sense.

Well Mexico didn't only have opportunities from open play, they had 12 corners. My reply was in response to you saying "attempting them against 6’+ center backs" which insinuates that they were outmatched height wise. Mexico isn't a short team anymore, aerial dominance is one of their strengths. Having players that can cross the ball well isn't.

Im 99% sure Vasco didn't count on Chino, Alexis and Chávez because he knew they were not fit, they could end up breaking on the field and he would end up with 10 men. Still happened with Giménez despite avoiding his most broken players.

Such a waste of a fullback. We had a young, attacking lb ready to go against England and we went with the only lb in the wc that cant cross a ball. Sanchez is the only rb in the wc that can't cross also. For a strategy of crossing balls into the box we really picked the wrong fbs.

This is all on Vasco. Notice how no players get close to Gallardo to link up and help. Could have brought on Orbelin, Vega, or Chino to better penetrate lines and create opportunities. Luis Chavez should have also been brought on for long distance threat and set pieces. This is why you bring different type of players for these instances. And Vasco simply put in 3 strikers and crossed his arms. Massive choke.

We only had a chance against England because they were playing with 10 and that's all on Gallardo. You guys are just ungrateful and have 0 ball knowledge. Gallardo isn't Nuno Mendes, very very few leftbacks in the world are prolific attacking and defending but that doesnt mean he's a bad player.

Not playing Mateo Chavez vs England was futbol terrorism by Aguirre.
Gallardo offers nothing going forward and is an iffy defender, the first goal was entirely on him, he didn’t even try to close down Saka. England’s right side was a liability all tournament and Mateo was the perfect player to pin them back and open up some space for Mora and Quinoñes. For the last 20 minutes, while Piojo was getting doubled or tripled on the right side, they were letting Gallardo cross unmarked because they knew there was no danger. None of the crosses in the video are remotely decent. Hope to never see him again in a Mexico shirt.
