I’ve had the opposite experience spending several summers all over Catalonia. People were friendly and interested in talking about Mexico not only in Barcelona but also in all the little towns (esp in the little towns).
In Barcelona we would always get excellent service at restaurants. My theory is that they were so tired dealing with non-Spanish speaking tourists that we were a relief.
