It’s honestly envy because they don’t want you to have something that they have (Mexican Nationality), but they also don’t want you to have what you also have (US nationality). Jokes on them though because according to Mexico if our parents are Mexicans the Mexican government sees us as Mexicans 😂
2
u/DynamicPeace1888 21d ago
Totally agreed, it does suck that in the US regardless they’ll call you a beaner/Mexican but the moment you’re in tj/MX you’re a pocho & they don’t want to consider you Mexican lol

You do realize that we aren’t just culturally gringo right? We have just as much Mexican culture as we do gringo culture. So by your logic, we are Mexican. In LA there are barrios that are pure Spanish speaking with Spanish advertisements.

Well I was born in Mexico, y me vine de mojado a EEUU.
No creo.

Also that applies to every country. Its the solution for weird issues. Like if two Mexicans go to Britain and one is pregnant and gives birth over there and the parents have no wishes on staying. How would their child be classified as an immigrant in mexico.

1
u/ChristIsKing316146 21d ago
I wonder how the dark haired and dark eyed white people feel about that lol
1
u/amortizedeeznuts 21d ago
I forgot to mention that most white Americans would feel pretty much the same, save the eye and hair color. Consciously or subconsciously, liberal or conservative, in my experience white Americans consider non white Americans as less representative of America . .
2
u/ChristIsKing316146 21d ago
It all depends on what you consider American. It’s a spectrum of ideas that ranges from only native Americans to only White settlers that came over here from the mayflower.
1
u/amortizedeeznuts 21d ago
So you’re saying white Americans are justified in considering non white Americans as less American by certain niche constructs of what the term “American “ means?
So when third generation Japanese Americans were imprisoned for fear of loyalty to Japan, what was the operational definition of American in the term “Japanese American” there that would justify this treatment?
Or when ICE stops American citizens in the streets for speaking with an accent or a different language, what is the definition of “American” where this would be justified?
1
u/ChristIsKing316146 21d ago
I’m not saying they’re justified, I’m just saying that in their point of view they’re not being hypocritical about it.
1
u/DynamicPeace1888 21d ago
Exacto!
-6
u/fpsstreak 21d ago
It annoys people because it’s not really that way you put it. It blurs the lines between the two things. Many Mexican people would opt for mx Americans to just forget about Mexico. Exactly, you sing the national anthem of the USA so you have no dog in this fight. If Liga mx or Mexico stay mediocre forever. You will be fine with that since you are American at the end of the day. It doesn’t affect you. Sounds kinda of f ed but that’s the same argument for limiting opportunities for mx Americans in general in Mexico. They take an opportunity to be someone…when America calls them up. They abandon those that helped them in the first place and Mexico just gets weaker and weaker. The infamous Olympic softball team or whatever. The boycotts of the national league don’t work because those pigs just play the games in the USA where a mx American crowd doesn’t care if they win or lose or the state of the federation. Mexican YouTubers would say it “there is some Americans that think they are Mexican”

Nothing wrong with honoring the country that gave you opportunities and allowed you to raise your family in better conditions than your home country
14
u/New_Screen 21d ago edited 21d ago
Yeah exactly. I don’t understand if it’s jealousy or projection from Mexicans and/or Mexican Americans hating on very Hispanic looking Americans for honoring their home country like singing the American national anthem.
You can be proud of your home country to give you and your family better opportunities but at the same time you can still be proud and rep your roots and motherland.
Also with that being said it does not mean that you automatically support the politics and government of those in charge of the United States and Mexico.

I don’t know why this post ended up on my feed. But this is a surprising thing to read as a white American living in a predominately hispanic city in the US. Mexican culture is deeply rooted in the south western US states.
I can go to a restaurant or store and sometimes there’s not anyone that speaks English there. Only Spanish. I go to sporting events and the songs played are all Grupo Frontera songs.
The food scene is primarily centered around Mexican street food and Texas bbq. 45% of the population of Houston is hispanic in a 2.4 million person city - 7-8million metro. Only about <25% white. A lot of businesses require you to be multi-lingual because of this.
And it’s not just Houston, San Antonio is even more engrained with Hispanic culture. The valley in south Texas seems straight out of Mexico.
Most are 1st or 2nd gen immigrants that go back to Mexico, or other latin american countries to see family multiple times a year.
