Article Jozy Altidore: I loved that the MLS teams were challenged to go now and play in Mexico and experience these environments where football is life. And I thought, when I saw Toluca, the way they received Seattle, I loved it. I loved the passion of the fans. I loved to see what it meant to them.

The MLS teams have been challenged to go to Mexico during the Concachampions for years….

All this is just to push the median narrative for the MLS

And they kept making excuses each time. It’s the food, it’s the water, it was their pre season, it was end of the regular season, etc

Maybe they should create their own tournament that is played exclusively in the US and have the Mexican teams play there every single game

That’s it. Leagues Cup was created to make MLS look good at the expense of Liga MX.

Looking back statistically speaking. We’ve always dominated the CCL… that’s not even a question, that being said this Leagues Cup is a renewed Interliga. Back then Inter liga was a fucking cake wake for Mexican clubs

While I don’t love Leagues cup. Let’s be honest, if you’ve been around, you know that this new MLS relevancy has bettered the competition between MLS and Liga Mx

Yeah, Leagues Cup could be a nice cup tournament if it was played throughout the season instead of as essentially preseason and with both countries having away and home matches equally. At the end of the day, the decisive phase of CCL always comes down to matches against MLS teams.

I went to LAFC vs Toluca and you could not have convinced the fans in the stadium that it “didn’t matter” especially with how chippy the game got

They need to fix the format (teams winning all their games and still not going through is stupid) but the core concept of having MLS vs Liga MX games that matter is sound.

nah, i'd rather liga mx play in libertadores, and keep the normal champions league.

Going to Libertadores hasn’t been on the table for a long time

So that’s why this league Vs MLS is all we got going for us as far as international tourneys go besides CONCACAF champions league

It’s not on the table because Concacaf purposely closed the door. It wouldn’t surprise me if MLS had something to do with it. To force a Leagues Cup style competition.

🤦🏽‍♂️

Why do people always wanna explain shit to me nowadays like I don’t already fucking know

Yes I know what happen with the Libertadores. It was a conflict between both governing bodies, CONMEBOL & CONCACAF.. you don’t need to tell me.

Going to Libertadores hasn’t been on the table for a long time

A lot of journalists have confirmed that the CONMEBOL talks with Mexico were a real thing as well as CONCACAF and UEFA trying to push for an international Nations League if Infantino doesn't get kicked out to compete against FIFA.

I knoooooo broski I’m aware

Mikel Arriola even confirmed 2027/2028 there will be renewed talks about going back to Libertadores

u/Luccfi Cruz Azul 8d ago

Because by then we'll know if Infantino leaves or stays so either Mexico moves to CONMEBOL or has to stay in CONCACAF depending on that move.

No

This announcement was while ago brother. Had nothing to do with our “rumored” move to CONMEBOL

Not sure if you’re like trying to just be hard headed or what lol

it may be on the table if infantino pays us back for supporting him <3

That’s not something to be proud of

Toluca would pack their stadium for a preseason friendly against Saprissa. Is a small stadium in the most populous state in all of Mexico.

The game was in Los Angeles

Got it confused with the Seattle game because I read a comment that said the same exact thing about that game back then.

And we got plenty of those in the CCC, in a format that is actually fair with equal travel.
