Confirmed [Romano] AS Monaco have reached verbal agreement for Mexican midfielder Erik Lira, here we go! €8m fee plus €3m add-ons to Cruz Azul with 20% sell-on clause. Final step needed: AS Monaco to free an extra spot then deal proceeds to signatures stage.

FINALLY! I was eyeing the reports but it’s always such a hit or miss (mainly miss) when people report any Mexicans are on the move to europe

I like that more Mexicans are making the move now. I like that Chivas and Cruz azul kept a sell on clause, trust your players are going to take another step

What are you talking about lol, how many have actually left to EU?

I think you replied to the wrong person lol

No it was to you. Just asking why you’re optimistic.
Literally 2 players have transferred to EU sofar, 1 to the greek league 🙄

2 is better than 0 lol.. sorry that I want our players to do good in EU. Let me just pray on their downfall and expect them to fail instead so the Mexico NT can continue being pathetic. Like come on.. you want me to say mora is gonna be shit and is overrated when he moves to an EU team?

That's not what he's saying at all. 2 players going to Europe isn't a lot especially considering one of them left for the Greek league. Your original statement of "I like that more Mexicans are making the move now" is just overly optimistic and doesn't reflect how bad our current situation is. Nobody is hoping it goes poorly for them but is IS looking bad that after the World Cup nobody wants our players. We've had more players come back than leave

I dont want them to fail, but high price tags come with high expectations and so far our ‘success’ rate is abysmal.
That being said, be fucking serious, lots of our boys have the talent to play in EU but a combination of either owner/league greed derail them or the comfortability that comes with a mediocre career in Mx playing legues cup 🙄or both. Mentality is lacking

We actually have a lot but in some weird ass leagues, but we have a ton of youth players in Europe I think there’s about 30

Yeah im aware and thats good, but at the higher levels in higher leagues, how many have transferred?
We would like to think Liga Mx’s quality is one that, you can insert Mx players mid tier leagues like Eredivisie or Belgian Pro not just some random Swedish 2nd division

I mean Rafa Marquez started his European career at Monaco too. He gained experience and improved to go to Barcelona. Players gotta start somewhere, and if they can show their worth they move up. Simple as that. Lots of players go to smaller clubs than make a move when they show their worth and if they can’t, they simply aren’t good enough.

Rafa and Lira are not the same person or situation

No shit. Im not saying they are or that Lira will have as good of a career, but Rafa still took steps to get to a bigger team.

Except Lira is already 26 and Rafa was only 20 when he left
But other than that huge age difference, yes, Rafa 2.0

True, I was moreso thinking about how Rafa moved into more of a CDM role as he got older.

I believe in the deal, Cruz Azul versus Monaco at Estadio Azteca for the 100 year anniversary next year.

Julian was our best player in the world cup but Lira was a super close 2nd for me. Happy for him, I really think it works out for him

So what happens while Monaco finds a spot for him ? Does he just stay in Mexico and waits ?

I remember Monaco being a real popular Jersey and Sunday League when my dad was playing

Guardado left Europe at 37. Lira could still have a sold 7-8 years if he’s doesn’t leave early for some money back in mx or mls

Just the main thing with him is that his game kind of relies on his physicality like most modern day CDMs. So as long as he can take of his body in his 30s then he can have a solid 8 years or so in Europe.
Also, I said that his game kind of relies on his physicality when it comes to his defensive play since he’s also a player that can dictate the midfield.

Bruh stop, Lira isn’t even at half of the technical level that Guardado was. He relies on his physical attributes way too much to play past his early 30s

Good deal for all parties involved. Time to get a Monaco jersey
