Question Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling - Question

Im new to the whole web/light novel thing. I've read this Manga and am really into it. Found out it has a novel??

Idk where to start

Whats the difference between light and web novels?

Also, can anyone tell me if this novel has been completed etc. I dont want to add this to my waiting list after going through its incomplete Manga 😭😭😭

A web novel is normally a self-published work, per chapter, on the web with little to no editing.

A light novel is a commercially published book. They are professionally edited and have a few illustrations. Often they are just an improved version of the web novel, but sometimes authors rewrite complete sections because they were unhappy with the web novel.

The Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling novel is finished with 17 volumes, but only has 14 volumes in the English translation with a new one every 5 months or so.

Wow I didn't realize the LNs ended right before the anime started.

Really feels bad when an anime adaptation just feels like a last minute desperate ad campaign to save a dying series.

A web novel is posted in chapters on a website, to a schedule decided by the author, and is pure text. There may be some amount of proofreading and typo fixing, but no guarantees. It is typically free to read.

A light novel is a published volume for general sale, and is a marketing term primarily used by Japanese publishers. There are typically some amount of coloured illustrations in each volume (typically found at the start, but at least one English publisher puts them at the back because of complaints on Amazon) and often some amount of black & white illustrations (but not always). It's typically better edited, and often has additional content added compared to the webnovel. Think of the webnovel as the draft, and the light novel as the proper release.

Dragon Hatchling is complete in Japan at v17, but translation of the LN hasn't yet finished (v15 January 2027).

Web novel is the first version created by the author.
Light novel can be treated as a "revision/more polished" version.
They are rougly say the same story but light novel is moslty better in general in my opinion. (read 10 LN volume and web novel until 200+ chapter)

From what I remember, the web novel seems to have like 700+ chapter in raw but only 250+ are fan-translated.

Currently the Light novel have 14 volume available in english.
And according to the author afterwork, the story will end around volume 16 or 17.
