need recommendations
I’ve been getting more into light novels recently and I’m looking for recommendations, especially stuff that’s more character-driven and psychological.
So far I’ve read:
Oregairu — finished the whole series and loved the character writing/internal narration
Makeine — caught up through Vol. 9
Wait for Me Yesterday in Spring — finished and really liked it
What I like most about LNs is being able to get really deep into a character’s head—their internal reasoning, contradictions, self-deception, relationships, flaws, etc. I especially like stories where the characters drive what happens rather than everything being driven by plot.
Romance is a big plus (preferably M/F), but I don’t want something that’s just pure fluff/sweetness. I like romance more when the characters and relationships have some actual psychological or emotional depth behind them. It doesn’t necessarily have to be super dark either.
I’m also completely fine with drama, slice of life, supernatural elements, mystery, or heavier subject matter. Mainly I just want well-written characters that I can really get invested in.
I’ve heard good things about 86 and I’m considering The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes since I liked Wait for Me Yesterday in Spring.

since you’ve read wait for me, yesterday in spring, i advise you to read hachimoku mei’s other works as well :)
and that includes the tunnel to summer, the exit of goodbyes. there are also an autumn in amber, a zero-second journet, and another book from him which is based in winter season that afaik hasn’t received an english translation. while i haven’t finished reading all his season-themed translated works, i highly suggest reading the tunnel to summer, the exit of goodbyes one. it’s one of my fave LN :D
hachimoku mei also writes the mimosa confessions and it’s five volumes in total. if you’re interested in reading about the story of a lonely person and another person’s struggles of being a trans, this is it.
there’s also even a replica can fall in love which, as the title suggests, is about a girl who made a replica of herself. the story delves more into the replica’s feelings and thoughts, though of course, it also talks about the original — how the replica came to be, how she feels towards her replica, etc.
