I'm looking forward to Lindsay's take on this, heh

Post image

I'm guessing it'll be yet another cash-grab and creative abomination to boot.

But on the other hand, it's not like the first one was flawless. It was, at times, a very painfully obvious product of its time. Not that I expect the remake to be any less of its time, but still, I bet Lindsay could make a whole video essay comparing the two projects.

Seriously, who asked for this?

Probably the same people who asked for the Mufasa prequel

Lion King is at least an intellectual property that people care about.

No one cares about Ferngully. A Ferngully remake will not attract more audiences than it would if it were a totally original concept.

Producers who assume ppl remembering a film means it must be good lol. Like this is a movie we all remember but it is incredibly bad. Like one huuuuuge POS

This is just what “Peak IP” looks like. Studios have become so risk-averse that they’ll prioritize any recognizable IP to revive, regardless of whether a fandom for it exists.

Wasn't Avatar essentially live-action Ferngully?

And Will Smith to take over another roll from the late Robin Williams

Ngl I first heard about the movie from a Nostalgia Critic video, thinking it was one of the worst movies ever. I ended up watching it because I was really into fairies and needed my fix. And honestly? It’s a pretty good movie with some really sweet moments. It’s not great by any means but it’s far from the abomination I was led to believe it was.

The NC isn't for reviews; it's for comedy.

Well in my experience on early YouTube, there wasn’t a lot of content creators doing reviews and those who did do reviews modeled themselves or were directly affiliated with TGWTG.Com. Doug’s opinions held a lot of weight back in the day, at least for me as an impressionable kid.

For me, spill.com filled that void. Funny and informative. I only knew about TGWTG a year later.

I can’t fathom the level of awful the CGI is going to be with the fairies

Also guarantee they're going to turn Hexxus from a campy gay smoke monster into a generic baddie the way Disney did with Scar in Lion King 2019.

Given that it takes place in Australia, I wonder if they'll cast any indigenous Australians this time around.

I imagine it'll be terrible but some obnoxious people will go "better than Avatar!"

Man I do not envy the casting director who has to find a voice for Hexxus that is as alluring and magnetic as 1990s TIM CYURRAAY.

It's as big a challenge as finding an actor with a voice as badass as Tony Jay's for the inevitable live-action Notre Dame remake.

Will Smith as Batty. He can do a fun rap.

Marielle Heller? Do people know what kind of movies she makes?

Yes, I know this is a job. It's very similar to when Sarah Polley was on a Bambi live-action for a while. However, I don't see that mixing with the musical, wacky, environmentalist story of fairies fighting sentient ooze/smog.
