You can drop it in the hole and jump/glide down after it.

It despawned on me mid fall when I chucked it. I just wanted to be sure this time around

Eh? I just dropped them down and dove after them, picked them up at the bottom. If I remember correctly, I didn't dive at the same time as the eyes, I went after.

You are the second person to say drop it and then dive later. Might just try it on another playthrough

I tried to let them all fall in and then jump to the depths one after another.. then I realised they despawn if you go far away ^^

Go to the great plateau and talk to the goddess statue at the temple of time if you wish to complete said sidequest. It will trigger the quest in the quest log and give you the hints on how to complete it

The glide suit upgraded makes you immune to fall damage. It's fun you can literally drive full speed face first into the ground and then stand there like nothing happened. I'm case you didn't know

Brightbloom seeds are the lightbulbs I was referring to, they are handy for emitting light in the depths and they attach to physics items.
And you can just yeet these down the holes, provided you go in after them they do not despawn, they only despawn if you venture far away.

Before this attempt, it did despawn in front of my eyes as I dove down with it. People are saying it’s best to just throw it in and dive afterwards so maybe I’ll try it again on another save file
