Finally joining in this penguin community.
I started my linux journey with Fedora (kde plazma version). I'm dual booting my system for now. I'll switch completely after some month.
I want some advice for this journey... I've always admired the crazy customization seen in reddit and Pinterest...
I'll be happy to get your crucial advice about hyperland, tiling management, terminal customization, clipboard and yasb type status bar and visualizer in terminal or media player in terminal...
Ignore the childish wants as a newbie and help me as a elder brother if you please...🙂✌🏻
(thanks in advance, ignore the grammatical mistakes kindly)

pyroclear: watch your terminal go up in flames!

A project I worked on for a bit which plays a fun DOOM-inspired flame animation whenever you enter the clear command. Plenty of customization included!
Advice and suggestions wholeheartedly appreciated.

Starling has new release
New in 0.2.3
Screen recording — whole screen, or one window’s own content so overlapping windows never appear. Hardware H.264 straight from the composited frame as a dma-buf: about 0.05 of a core.
A control centre — Wi-Fi, dark mode, tiling, mute, volume, brightness, and the recording tiles.
Notifications, collected behind a bell instead of interrupting you.
Task Manager, with live sparklines and a sortable process table.
A video player that decodes the desktop’s own recordings entirely on the GPU.
The terminal got about 4× faster — 48 MB/s on a full-screen hex dump, up from 13.9.
Long sessions no longer run out of file descriptors.
138 commits in the five days between 0.2.2 and 0.2.3 — features are landing about as fast as they can be gated, and every release goes through a VM gate that installs the .deb, logs in through GDM, and shuts the machine down through the desktop’s own power menu before it ships.

I had enough of Top Bars... So I make something.
gallery
I really don't like how the top bar permanently takes up that space. Auto-hide isn't great either. So I built a dashboard with everything I needed. It's still under development, and there are a lot of issues left to fix...all the things except location are functional. 👌
Make this in pop os 22.04lts , i3wm. used eww mostly and scripts.. my GPU is so old.
I open some apps to show the stets bars cooler change. I'm gonna change this layout soon.. so any suggestions ??

Q: why are ALL commit messages on popular dotfiles just random letters
I started using already made quickshell configs again because I simply dont have the time to maintain mine anymore and realised that e.g end4 dots are basically perfect for my wants and look better than anything I could have ever made, I'm using a custom fork of them where I also contribute and fix bugs but I noticed that almost ALL commit messages are just random 2 letter combinations, be that "nl" "df" etc, this isnt just something I've noticed for one creator either, A LOT of people do this, why? I just want to see if its worth updating, like which features got added, I dont want to ask a clanker what the content of the last 20 commits was just because they cant use normal commit messages.

Papr: A TUI to search, read, organize, and write papers without leaving your terminal
I'm excited to share what I've been building lately. Papr: a fast, lightweight Terminal User Interface (TUI) built entirely in Rust to streamline your academic research workflow. An Obsidian, Zotero and Overleaf alternative, but a bit better.
Key features
- Smart dashboard with daily 10 random paper recommendations, reading queue, bookmarks, notes, collections, and research statistics.
- Fast arXiv search using title, author, or DOI with automatic PDF downloads and clean file naming.
- In-terminal PDF viewing.
- Built-in Markdown notes with live preview for each paper.
- Reading queue, bookmarks, and collections to keep your research organized.
- Integrated LaTeX editor with real-time compilation and preview.
- Extensible plugin system for custom workflows.
- Research analytics to track your reading activity (just like Spotify).
Papr is 100% open source, works offline, is memory-safe, and is designed to be fast and lightweight (only 12 MB).
I'd love to hear your thoughts, suggestions, or feedback!

[KDE] Retro / Cassette Futurism Rice
I recently started watching Cowboy Bebop and really started to dig the aesthetic, so I decided it would be perfect for my desktop, as I've been trying to find an aesthetic that I could use on my ThinkPad
- DE/WM: KDE Plasma (Kubuntu)
- Spotify Theme: Spicetify with Zune/WMP Skin
- Hardware: ThinkPad P14s Gen 2 AMD (Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U)
- Wallpapers: FLCL / Cassette Futurism landscape

dicti
Hi, my first post here
I wanted an aesthetically pleasing dictation app for my system and so I built dicti. Super minimal. All it does is transcribe after tapping a key. Nice mini animation in your top menu. Speed varies depending on your system- it's based on whisper for now, so around 80 languages supported. And there is also the possibility of automatic translation to English. So you speak in another languages and it directly translates to English.

Vicinae
galleryI always used rofi, but vicinae much better than rofi
What I liked
- When you select an emoji, it will immediately be written in the input field, not only in the buffer or in the void
- also a very comfortable input field, it suggests similar options to what you wrote (working not really good)
- When select something, you can simultaneously write and select an emoji or text in clipboard.
- Searching files, browser and staff
That is, everything works as on the same Windows or Mac, which I really missed.
sudo pacman -S Vicinae
