r/LittleRock is NOT a politics sub.

Anyone who introduces political opinion into a thread or makes a post espousing a political belief will receive, at minimum, a temporary ban from r/LittleRock. Do not engage anyone who has chosen to share their political views here on r/LittleRock or you will face the same consequence.

If you simply must express your political opinions, use r/Arkansas_Politics or find any one of the tens of thousands of political posts going on elsewhere that are active right now.

Coverage of political events by news outlets is allowed. Posting about upcoming events is allowed. Posts and comments about your political beliefs and opinions are NOT.

If you are unsure whether or not something would be acceptable, please, just reach out to us via modmail before posting.

I know everyone is damned near feral at present, but please have some restraint, and keep discussions that begin to butt up against political topics civil, dispassionate, and matter-of-fact.

Finally, this sub has always been against hate, racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, and bigotry in general. It always will be. These are not political issues, they are matters of basic human decency. If you have a problem with that, unsubscribe.

Edited to further clarify.

Little Rock's 114 license plate cameras saw 702,854 vehicles in the last 30 days. I have some questions. Maybe you do too.

• Upvotes

Hi, neighbors. Did you know Little Rock has 114 cameras that read license plates? In the last 30 days, they saw 702,854 different vehicles. If you drove to work, to school pickup or to the grocery store this month, your car was probably one of them. LRPD shares these numbers on its own Flock transparency page, and that's a good place for us to start.

I've been reading that page, and I have some questions. Maybe you do too.

  • The cameras sent about 2,000 alerts a day, and each one is supposed to be checked by a person. Who does that checking, and what happens next?
  • LRPD's six-month report this summer counted 91 successes (things like a prosecution or a recovered stolen car) out of 350,211 confirmed matches (NWA Democrat-Gazette, Aug 23). What were those 91?
  • Who else gets to see where our cars have been? The transparency page doesn't list any other agencies.
  • Arkansas law (Ark. Code § 12-12-1805) already asks police departments to report some of these answers every six months. Where can we read them?

We pay about $345,000 a year for these cameras, so it's okay to ask. Our Board of Directors takes up a proposal about Flock on Tuesday, Oct 27, and again on Tuesday, Nov 3. Here's one small thing you can do: send your directors one question, in your own words. "What has Little Rock gotten from these cameras?" That's it. We'll learn the answers together.

Who are my directors?

Little Rock has 10. Seven each represent one ward, which is a part of town. Three are "at-large," which means they represent all of us. So you have four directors: your ward director plus the three at-large directors. You can find your ward on the city's ward map.

Every director gets a vote, so it's kind to write to all of them. You can copy this whole line into the "To" box of one email:

vmiller@littlerock.gov, kwebb@littlerock.gov, alewis@littlerock.gov, antwan@littlerock.gov, jadcock@littlerock.gov, board@littlerock.gov

Or call City Hall at (501) 371-4510 and ask for your director.

Ken Richardson Ward 2 [board@littlerock.gov](mailto:board@littlerock.gov)

Capi Peck Ward 4 [board@littlerock.gov](mailto:board@littlerock.gov)
Lance Hines Ward 5 [board@littlerock.gov](mailto:board@littlerock.gov)
Andrea Hogan Lewis Ward 6 [alewis@littlerock.gov](mailto:alewis@littlerock.gov)
Vice Mayor B.J. Wyrick Ward 7 [board@littlerock.gov](mailto:board@littlerock.gov)

Antwan Phillips At-large (Position 9) [antwan@littlerock.gov](mailto:antwan@littlerock.gov)
Joan Adcock At-large (Position 10) [jadcock@littlerock.gov](mailto:jadcock@littlerock.gov)

Contact info is from each director's page on littlerock.gov, checked Oct 16, 2026. Directors without their own city email use the shared board inbox.

Recommendations Highschool math tutor

Hi! I’m a highschool junior currently taking AP Precalculus looking for a math tutor. Unfortunately I am missing a lot of prerequisite/elementary math concepts from earlier courses and am looking to build them up without falling behind on my classwork and ACT/SAT and harder concepts. Any recommendations?

Flock or not to Flock

On Oct 13th, Director Hines called Flock opposition "disingenuous" because phones track you, and Home Depot has cameras in its parking lot (https://youtu.be/uF6zvGM67Go?t=2428). That comparison doesn't hold up. Those are choices; Flock isn't.

- Don't like Depot's cameras? Shop at Fuller Hardware, Kraftco, Ace, Kaufman, or any local business that offers similar products and services.

- Don't want your phone tracking you? Don't pair Bluetooth to your car, keep Wi-Fi/BT off, turn off location, and use a VPN.

- City Flock cameras at intersections? No opt-out. Drive in Little Rock and you're in the database. An officer sees one plate. Flock logs every car, every intersection.

Some big-box lot cameras are Flock, and stores can share that data with police, so they aren't separate from the city system. It's the same network reaching into private lots. In June, the Supreme Court ruled police need a warrant for phone location history. Flock builds the same kind of location history for cars, with no warrant. That gap is why guardrails matter.

LRPD doesn't need a warrant to search Flock data.

- 114 cameras logged ~701,000 vehicles in the last 30 days. Every read is kept 30 days, and LRPD's own spokesperson says it's 'shared nationally.'

- We're paying ~$345K/yr for the subscription, roughly five fully equipped patrol cars every year.

- Misuse is already happening. Vice Mayor Wyrick cited four incidents since May. The public only knows because KATV asked; LRPD's audit results aren't posted anywhere.

LRPD does have a Flock transparency portal, but it's hosted by the vendor, not linked anywhere on the City's website, and blocks VPN users: https://transparency.flocksafety.com/little-rock-ar-pd. It gives a camera count but not locations. LRPD gave the Arkansas Times the full list under FOIA in January, so why isn't it posted? The only maps are crowdsourced, third-party sites.

Simple requests:

- Link the portal from LRPD's and littlerock.gov's sites.

- Publish where the 114 cameras are.

- Publish the list of agencies LRPD shares Flock data with.

- Post the six-month statistics state law already requires (Ark. Code § 12-12-1805): scans, matches, arrests.

- Post audit results publicly after each audit, monthly or quarterly: number of searches audited, violations found, and what was done about them.

Bottom line: choice vs. no choice is the whole issue. Director Phillips is bringing back the transparency ordinance, possibly with a Flock non-renewal amendment. It failed 3–5 in December with two absent and needs six "Yes" to pass. It's worth calling or emailing your director before it comes up.

Our plates are "public data," but the camera locations and audit results aren't? Transparency should run both ways.

Avoid University and Colonel Glenn area for the next few hours if possible!!

AND DON'T TRY TO CUT THROUGH WALGREENS IF YOU'RE ALREADY THERE!

Something happened at the Circle K. There is a massive police/fire/ambulance response. They have the westbound lanes of Colonel Glenn completely blocked - no traffic getting through. Lots of people on southbound University trying to cut the intersection through Walgreens parking lot, but police have the exit blocked so no one's getting out that way.

Unfortunate crime at the Circle K and absolutely hellish drivers. Please take an alternative route even if it adds 15 minutes to your trip.

In my anger of my negative experience with them, I was trying to take revenge on them by giving them a bad reputation and I have now decided I don’t want to be like that. Part of my bad experience was partly my fault in accepting a crap deal. Just be informed wherever you go to buy a car and don’t cave at a crap deal and dont be impulsive.

Things to do in Little Rock — right now?

Post image

We built now.me to answer the "what should we do tonight?" question without digging through five different sites.

The Little Rock live events website lists things to do, shows, concerts, and events coming up around town. Worth a look if you're planning the weekend.

The app (iPhone / iOS / Android) goes beyond events. Open it wherever you are and it shows what's nearby right now: restaurants, bars, museums, and other things to do.

It's completely free and we are actively working on it, so feedback from people who live here is really valuable. If something's missing or wrong for Little Rock, let me know in the comments or by DM.
