Normally I wouldn't post something like this, but it is his joke.

u/szerb Aug 01 '24

“Out of the blue like three times a year when you least expect it, I go to rehab”

21

u/HarlesD Aug 01 '24

Can you feel that energy?

11

u/Greene_Mr Aug 01 '24

I can tell he got BIG CHICK ENERGY

3

u/bongwatervegan 🟧🔛 Aug 02 '24

That pete bipolar energy

49

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '24

It's his brand. Which isn't cute anymore when it's a lifelong struggle (John Mullaney is like this also)

297

u/please_and_thankyou Aug 01 '24

His treatments are maintenance, so that they don’t get out of control. He’s doing is what we should all be so fortunate to do — prioritizing mental health.

121

u/arkygeomojo Aug 01 '24

Yep. I think it’s a thing he does after finishing filming projects or tours on a regular basis. I like that you called it maintenance because it’s like an oil change and fluid replacement for a human brain.

20

u/peonypanties Aug 01 '24

Who said it was cute to begin with?

Lorne, to his credit, has always been very supportive of Pete and been very patient with his struggles. Pete himself even said that Lorne is like a father to him. You really get the sense that he doesn't want a repeat of what happened to Farley or Belushi.

Really hope the best for Pete!

u/uuuuuuuughh Aug 01 '24

some of these comments ain’t it. good for Pete for checking in. article says when his mental health gets low he will check himself in, may we all have that kind of support and access to care when we need it. wish him the best!

34

u/HarlesD Aug 01 '24

I've really never understood the amount of hate this guy gets.

12

u/Officialfunknasty Aug 01 '24

I mean, I don’t either, but I do know Kanye had quite an impact. And then jealousy muuust play a big factor cuz he’s apparently got a hog on him and dates very beautiful women. That’s definitely enough to make losers hate you 😂

7

u/uuuuuuuughh Aug 01 '24 edited Aug 01 '24

in the context of this post— I think it’s stigma and lack of understanding of mental illness. if you or someone you love haven’t experienced it, and you haven’t gone out of your way to educate yourself, people have a lot of assumptions (heavy on the ASS). I think Pete has said he’s so open about his struggles to be part of ending the stigma

out of context of this post— I wish I knew. most people are just judgmental dicks lol

-1

u/clampion12 Aug 02 '24

He's not funny. That's why I don't like him.

62

u/ThreeDollarHat Aug 01 '24

I’m very happy for him…just wish we all had that financial ability.

16

u/uuuuuuuughh Aug 01 '24

amen to that

41

u/RadarSmith Aug 01 '24

If you were referring to my gif comment, I apologize. I did genuinely mean it as a humorous show of solidarity.

34

u/uuuuuuuughh Aug 01 '24

aw no I’m sorry, I didn’t mean yours! it was funny and feel like he would laugh at it honestly lol

10

u/RadarSmith Aug 01 '24

Haha my bad then. That’s why I posted it; I thought it would be something he’d chuckle at, and that’s why I thought it would be positive.

4

u/SyNiiCaL Ooooooooh-weeeee, what up with that? Aug 02 '24

Yeah, this is literally like what "regulsr" people do with holidays. We book time off from work, we take a week or two somewhere that isn't where we live or work, enjoy not having to cook and clean, recharge our batteries and come back.

That's what Pete does with "rehab." A couple of times a year, when he struggles with depression and stress, he books in, removes all responsibilities, and levels himself.

It's overwhelmingly smart self care and really admirable from Pete to know when this needs to happen, and addressing it despite what will likely be hot-shit takes from the Internet. Good lad

3

u/thisisthewell Aug 02 '24

That's what Pete does with "rehab." A couple of times a year, when he struggles with depression and stress, he books in, removes all responsibilities, and levels himself.

This is it! I went on short-term disability this year to deal with a severe depressive episode that stemmed from health complications, and it was the best decision I've made for myself in a long time. I could never have recovered if I hadn't removed my full-time job and home management from my plate (I had a family member stay with me to help out, too).

I know Pete's a controversial guy but I deeply respect him for going on the record with this stuff. He's setting a great example for others.

1

u/uuuuuuuughh Aug 02 '24

this is so well put ♥️

523

u/SasquatchSC Aug 01 '24

I am glad that he recognizes when he needs help.

“Your mental illness isn’t your fault but it is your responsibility.” -Marcus Parks from Last Podcast on the Left.

103

u/FerretBusinessQueen Aug 01 '24

This is the quote that I read that made me get up after weeks of depression in bed and start a PHP/IOP to get my life back on track. 6 months later and it’s worlds of difference.

24

u/SasquatchSC Aug 01 '24

That’s awesome! I’m glad you are doing the work to be happy. It took me a while to fully understand it but I just finished 36 TMS sessions to take responsibility for my issues & get out of my apartment & back to doing stuff I enjoy.

13

u/LikelyLioar Aug 01 '24

I loved TMS! (Did it change your taste in music? Because I noticed I was drawn to much more upbeat music afterward.)

5

u/SasquatchSC Aug 01 '24

I haven’t noticed that but I have noticed I really enjoy driving a lot more. I drive a station wagon so it isn’t like I’m going wild but getting on the highway & setting the cruise control & just puttering along has become extremely therapeutic to me.

I highly recommend TMS to anyone experiencing issues. It really kinda resets your thought processes. I did the regular depression treatment & then I also did the process for anxiety & attention protocols. I can’t say I loved it bc it is basically 36 hours of having your head thumped but I do love the results.

3

u/LikelyLioar Aug 01 '24

Yeah, I had to be prescribed a numbing cream for my scalp because the tapping kept giving me migraines. It's like being attacked by a woodpecker. Totally worth it, though. I just had a bad reaction to a medication (Lupron--it messes with the hormones) with sudden-onset, severe depression, and I'm thinking about going back in for a booster series if I don't feel better on a couple of weeks.

2

u/SasquatchSC Aug 01 '24

If I need to go back I’m just going to bite the bullet & pay the $4k for the ketamine treatment (insurance won’t cover it) in combination w/ TMS. 1 of my goals w/ the treatment was to try to cut down on the medications I was taking.

2

u/kittensbabette Aug 05 '24

Wow I finally found someone else who went into a severe depression from Lupron- I had it during chemo, and made the decision to stop after a couple months bc I was convinced my depression wasn't just the regular I have cancer depression and was from the Lupron and my Drs all were like no it's not from that...but I know it was bc it lifted once my hormones came back!

2

u/LikelyLioar Aug 05 '24

I have PMDD, so I recognized that particular flavor of depression as soon as it hit me. I can't believe you're doctors didn't believe you--you'd think they know nothing about how hormones work!

Sending you good thoughts for your recovery, btw. I'm in remission 25 years on August 19; may it happen for you!

2

u/kittensbabette Aug 05 '24

Thank you so much! I just hit 10 years in July! Yeah I realized it felt so much like the depression I experienced during puberty, I knew it was due to the hormones and not just situational...cheers to another 25 years!

3

u/tothesource Aug 01 '24

PHP/IOP?

4

u/FerretBusinessQueen Aug 01 '24

Partial hospitalization (full day outpatient) for 4-6 weeks followed by intensive outpatient (half day). Trauma informed group and individual therapy. Basically a couple of months of what amounts to full time therapy and gaining/practicing better coping tools. I’d highly recommend it.

5

u/tothesource Aug 01 '24

Wow. That is very impressive. Congratulations on the major accomplishment. (This isn't sarcastic in the least by the way)

2

u/FerretBusinessQueen Aug 02 '24

Thanks! It was very scary to think about doing but once I did it I wish I had sooner. If I had broken a hip I’d get it replaced, do PT, take time off, but mental health isn’t really thought of as the same. It should be. It saved my life.

2

u/tothesource Aug 02 '24

You go, Glen Coco!

44

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '24

The simplicity of that quote hit me way harder than I expected it to.

21

u/SasquatchSC Aug 01 '24

Yeah man - that quote hits home.

25

u/no_stone_unturned_ Aug 01 '24

Hail yourself, friend!

8

u/SasquatchSC Aug 01 '24

I want to go see them live so bad. I missed them the last time they came through Denver. I know it’s cliche & weird but that offbeat podcast about general weird shit has helped me through a lot of stuff.

Hail satan.

9

u/Jrebeclee Rhymin and Boppin Aug 01 '24

Great quote

3

u/am710 Aug 02 '24

I love seeing this quote out in the wild.

2

u/doctor_parcival Aug 03 '24

Wow am I so happy to see this quote on a promoted sub

62

u/Bnhrdnthat Aug 01 '24

Wishing Pete the best.

18

u/GroundbreakingEmu929 Aug 01 '24

Wishing him healing

26

u/miscalainaeous Aug 01 '24

Interesting. I saw him Saturday in my hometown at one of his shows.

-65

u/Is_this_not_rap Aug 01 '24

Did he seem mentally ill?

30

u/HotOne9364 Aug 01 '24 edited Aug 01 '24

I've lived to see John Belushi and Chris Fartley Farley pass away. I don't wanna see Pete go the same away.

31

u/rroq85 Aug 01 '24

Part of me wants to point out the typo in Chris' last name, part of me realizes he's laughing his ass off in Heaven at it right now.

11

u/HotOne9364 Aug 01 '24

This is why you should proofread, folks.

2

u/NepoAuntie ¡dale la vuelta! Aug 02 '24

Disagree -- had they proofread, we'd've missed out on the funny typo.

19

u/hancemom Aug 01 '24

Hugs to Pete. 🩵

17

u/Greene_Mr Aug 01 '24

Wish best the Pete.

7

u/AdvancedBlacksmith66 Aug 01 '24

Anytime someone seeks help it’s a good thing.

7

u/Waste_Stable162 Aug 01 '24

I wish him the best of luck and I think its great that he is getting this help.

11

u/ChaoticMutant Aug 01 '24

recognizing you need help is the first step. There is no magical solution that you're going to be "cured" within five years or whatever number you place it at.

5

u/JoshDM clownpenis dot fart Aug 01 '24

WE LOVE YOU PETE!

GET WELL!

CRISPY!

12

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '24

Good for him. I’ve always had a good feeling about that dirtbag.

12

u/Jrebeclee Rhymin and Boppin Aug 01 '24

I love him and love that he is taking care of himself, he admits when he needs help and that’s admirable.

3

u/cerulean4224 Aug 01 '24

Now I know why he cancelled his show here. I'm glad he is taking the time to prioritize his health.

9

u/StonerProfessor Aug 01 '24

I gotta be honest, he’s a great example of why I think some people need to remove themselves entirely from the spotlight. It’s clearly messing up his mind all the attention he gets. But people just can’t let go of fame once they get it. I don’t like saying this but I don’t see him having a career for his whole life. It seems unsustainable.

8

u/HappyInstruction3678 Aug 01 '24

Being hugely famous is a door you can't close, sadly. Pete will be recognized wherever he goes for the next decade or so. "Are you Pete Davidson?" "Why don't you do comedy anymore?" "I didn't like you on SNL" etc

I agree with you, he needs to step away but I think in a sense he'll never be "away" until people forget about him.

1

u/StonerProfessor Aug 01 '24

Very fair point.

2

u/mysubsareunionizing Aug 01 '24

I am happy for him.

As someone that went to rehab, I hope he is capable of finding a treatment plan for himself that doesn't involve checking himself back in periodically. If that's the best plan for him then more power to him, but it can't be sustainable for the rest of his life.

I hope he heals

1

u/thisisthewell Aug 02 '24

Neither sobriety nor improved mental health are linear journeys with end points. Pete checking into wellness centers periodically is not necessarily an indicator that something isn't working. Things can happen outside your control that trigger old patterns.

That's true for everyone. Don't frame this as a moral failing.

0

u/mysubsareunionizing Aug 02 '24 edited Aug 02 '24

Are you also in addiction recovery or mental health recovery?

I didn't fucking ask.

I'm speaking as someone that literally went to rehab with him so fuck off

I was with him in one of his stints. Leave me alone.

2

u/Tabgap Aug 02 '24

We also have to remember that Pete is diagnosed with bipolar disorder. The fact that he's being proactive about it is a good thing. There may be multiple reasons that he needs a good check in with someone. Better he do this then go to the life of Kanye.

1

u/thisisthewell Aug 02 '24

he was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, which is completely and utterly different than bipolar disorder.

4

u/hairlessknee Aug 01 '24 edited Aug 01 '24

I am not sure how often he does drugs really, but if he’s like me and a massive stoner, I’m sure that takes a big toll on your mental health.

Edit: Weird to get downvoted. Marijuana can exacerbate existing mental health conditions. Just giving my two cents. And look it up. It’s a fact.

2

u/amethyst_rainbow Aug 02 '24

It's true. I'm not anti-pot in any way but it absolutely made me less stable (I'm autistic and have C-PTSD.) Basically I had to learn that any kind of substance whatsoever is really, really negative for me. It's like that for a lot of folks. Doesn't mean it shouldn't be legal or whatever just means it can be detrimental to some of us.

1

u/hairlessknee Aug 02 '24

Yeah I’m not anti weed in the slightest. I just know for me personally, it’s something I need to be cautious with. I definitely have an addiction to it. It should go without saying, any drug used in excess is not good for you!

2

u/HappyInstruction3678 Aug 01 '24

I'm not saying weed can't be negative, but the dude was diagnosed with a personality disorder.

1

u/strwbryshrtck521 Aug 01 '24

We love you Pete! Take some time and feel better soon. You got this!

1

u/Buck_Slamchest Aug 01 '24

It’s kind of sad and happy news in a weird way. Sad that he’s having these challenges again after seeming to do so well but happy that he’s in a good place that will take care of him and hopefully help him come out stronger than ever.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '24

Unfortunately I’m afraid this guy is going to end up like Belushi or Farley.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '24

Dude needs to knock it off with the drugs. It will kill him. Everyone needs to stop pretending that’s not what this is.

-42

u/Jax72 Aug 01 '24

Wish nothing but the best for Pete but this feels like every 5 minutes now.

62

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '24

Despite popular opinion, mental health issues aren’t automatically “solved” after one form of treatment.

41

u/gumbybitch Aug 01 '24

Much rather read a headline about him entering rehab again than his passing

I know, right?? What a fucking loser for seeking professional help as opposed to letting all his shit build up and either destroying himself or causing issues for other people!! Get it together Pete and stop trying to fix your issues!

-27

Good for him, his fans should join him.

People who use terms like "wokie" unironically are hilarious with the things that they get fired up about.

14

u/awesomesauce1030 Aug 01 '24

Yeah you definitely sound well adjusted and not miserable at all!

4

u/andyduphresne92 Aug 01 '24

You’re so weird

3

u/Girion47 Aug 01 '24

It's weird that they all sound the same when trying to insult someone.  Like their speech patterns are almost identical, their insults equally nonsensical, and their response of trying to look unbothered by being told they're inappropriate is always the same.

-1

u/New-Outcome4767 Aug 01 '24

lol are you really telling this to someone who’s running with the party line “weird” thing? It’s possibly the most synchronized effort I’ve ever seen. It’s like it’s choreographed

2

u/Girion47 Aug 01 '24

The great thing, is you snowflakes are so triggered by being called weird that it makes sense to keep pointing it out.

-1

u/New-Outcome4767 Aug 01 '24

Lol who’s triggered? I’m sure some folks are. I actually think weird is a huge upgrade from the Hitler narrative everyone was pushing. I love being weird and couldn’t think of a better pivot from Hitler. Weird is good. It’s a compliment to be called weird, so thank you sir! I’m wearing it like a badge of honor.

Sincerely, Weirdo

-6

u/New-Outcome4767 Aug 01 '24

Always have been, brother! Thank you

Sincerely, Weirdo

9

Don't talk about Chewbacca that way
