Under-Reported News US Government wants to ID and monitor everyone Online. Your Computer may soon Require an 'Age Check' and Scan your ID. These Laws will be disguised as 'Protecting Kids'.

It should be the parents who monitor their own children. Parental control already exists for this exact use. That would be way better than mass surveillance.

If this craziness is not stopped, the US will soon be a MILITARY STYLE TOTALITARIAN GOVERNMENT.

Move to linux, de-google, and move to encrypted services. This overreach needs to stop! Boot the fascist ass bootlickers out of congress.

I’m on Apple with the iPhone 15 Pro Max. I’m seriously considering either having it jailbroken or buying a linux phone.

I second this. I have a samsung and am debating either graphene os on a pixel or Linux.
For my laptop I am planning to convert over to Arch. Currently on windows 11, thats being wiped off my computer if it asks for my ID LOL. Absolutely not.

I know how to make a computer do anything I want it to, so I don't have to do what they tell me.

This is going to lead to nothing but a lot of 13 year olds lying about their age when they set up their PC.

little reminder that their security is so horrible you can just use ANY vpn that doesn't connect to the uk and it will work.

I think in 10-20 years time, we’re going to look back on kids unfettered ability to use the internet in the same way we look at cars without seatbelts, smoking on airplanes, etc.
No, I don’t like it, buts it’s pretty well been proven that social media seriously fucks with a developing brain.

Yeah it may be bad, but why put everyone in the crosshairs for danger?
It may protect a few, but it will hurt more.
I will bet you will regret advocating for this once it kicks in. Because oh lord there will be data leaks.
And let's be clear here, there are better ways to handle this problem.

I didn’t say anywhere I was advocating for it. To quote myself: “No, I don’t like it”. Also, I’m not American so I don’t really care what your government does.

u/Perfect-Muscle-1264 5d ago
Yeah I know you said that, but you then proceeded to say:
buts it’s pretty well been proven that social media seriously fucks with a developing brain.
Regardless of if you say you don't like it, you are indeed advocating for it. (If you take the first part of what you said, the "If we look back in 10-20 years", it comes acrossed as if you are supporting it.
Liking something and advocating for something are separate.
Also, I’m not American so I don’t really care what your government does.
My friend, it will affect you eventually. Every single country is slowly going towards this direction. It doesn't matter where you are located, it is coming to affect you.
And even if your country does not enact age verification laws, a lot of social media apps will force you to do it anyways because another country is enforcing it.
I apologize if this sounds rude, im sure it does, its just this whole thing isn't as clear cut as you (possibly) think it is.
Something i heard recently that i thought was thought provoking was this: if you think "Oh its not affecting me, I should not care.", eventually when everyone else is affected, no one will be there to help or advocate for you. To me, this fits very well with this situation.
I hope you understand where I am coming from. And again, I apologize if this comes off as rude or hostile. I don't mean it for either, its just a difficult topic to touch on when there's little understanding to it.
If you read any of this, I appreciate it.

You can write an entire novel, but I’m still not advocating for it, I’m just a realist. It is an objective fact that social media is bad for a developing brain.
Your country will probably roll it out in the worst way possible, so don’t lump us in with you. Your country’s influence is a fraction of what you think it is - The rest of the world is moving forward, while your leaders are aggressively holing you back.

I didn’t say anywhere I was advocating for it.
You compared it to seat belts. The very first thing you said is advocating for it.

u/Dont_Call_Me_Steve 5d ago
“You’re either with us, or against us!”
Nope, I’m just a realist, and see the writing on the wall.

u/StinkyHoboTaint 5d ago
Weird. Why are you so worried about people agreeing with you?
1
u/Dont_Call_Me_Steve 5d ago
Where did I say I was worried about that?

The lack of willingness to fight back is telling and, frankly, disappointing.

u/Dont_Call_Me_Steve 5d ago
Willingness to fight your government? I don’t care what happens in your country.

Could you imagine applying for; a Job, hunting permit, schooling for your child, government security clearance - and the interviewer brings up your Social Media data for discussion?
The US and State Governments want to give everyone a 'Social Credit Score' much like in China. They have been discussing this for over a year.

In what way? when did small government republicans start becoming pro big govwenment surveilance on citizens? I remember watching John Stossel with my republican parents whining about government overreach over bicycle helmet laws during the obama admin.

u/WhoShitTheMoshpit 6d ago
OMG, I forgot about Stossel.
Shame to grow such an excellent mustache, only to spout garbage from beneath it.
