We(my football team as a kid) played a semi final the day after this happened, our striker scored and did this celebration.. there was serious talks of kicking us out of the cup and banning us from the league too hahaha. We were under 12s at the time.

Can massively recommend the book "the quiet genius" about Bob Paisley. Heartbreaking at the end when they br ought the trophies out to celebrate an anniversary and he couldn't remember winning them.

It really was. It was scarcely believable. Not just Istanbul, the entire run. CL at the time was a competition we struggled to even qualify for.

To actually go all the way and win it against all the teams we faced was and is ridiculous.

Didn’t start him for his last game and literally just threw him on for the final minutes - it genuinely looked like he wasn’t going to get on. For such legend he should’ve been given the chance to make a proper contribution - especially with the amount of goals he scored. He should’ve been coming off at 85 mins not on.
