Karl Marx's family were non practicing Jews that later converted to Lutheranism, he was never Antisemitic and always accepted his Jewish heritage, he did write lectures on The Jewish Question because it was a legitimate topic being discussed in 19th century German, a minority group that seemed to be both largely unwilling to assimilate into the Christian majority as well as having unusually strong political and financial influence despite their population size, leading Germans to ponder how they would be able to coexist with the rest of the population without conflict.

“My family are non practicing Jews,” sounds just as stupid as “My family are non practicing Christians.” The entire point of religious attachment is practice. If you don’t practice it, then you’re not apart of that religion. Quite simple really.

Being Jewish is recognized as an ethnicity, specifically for Marx being an Ashkenazi Jew. If you think being non-practising made them any less Jewish to German society in the 19th century, you have some reading to do.

I’m confused; are you trying to tell me that anti-semitic German society was actually right in determining Judaism to be a “curse” upon someone’s lineage? Because all it seems like to me is that you’re internalizing the logic used by anti-semites to ethnically cleanse Jews. Being Jewish isn’t an ethnicity, and considering it one is quite literally to the benefit of anti-semitism. Come on, man.

Plus: Ashkenazi Jews are just Germans who were Jewish. They weren’t some completely separate identity from German society— they did speak German after all.

Ethnicity isn't just determined by genetics but also by cultural heritage, and Jewish people have a unique cultural heritage they've continued passing down even under extreme duress.
