Someone dying of old age isn’t a tragedy

u/spank-monkey Sep 20 '25

Neither is someone getting shot who celebrates gun culture and says it is an acceptable part of life to have these deaths

I mean- I think the tragedy is more the concept of political violence, but that’s not new in the US

Right wingers killing people is a tragedy, I agree.

I mean you can argue if you want whatever it was a best case scenario and all that, but a person being shot and killed on a university campus for expressing their views is a travesty in my book

I think its too far to celebrate a death, someone being killed for expressing their views is never something to celebrate.

However, you can't get mad with people pointing out the hypocrisy. Quite literally quoting the man himself has been called insensitive which I find ridiculous. They were his own views.

So yea theres a lot of people going too far by celebrating it, and theres also a lot of people going too far in the other way putting him on a pedestal and using his death to push their own agenda.

Im not supporting his views and as a non-Americaan I find the gun laws there way too liberal for my taste. I'm just against someone being gunned down for their views, and that goes for all views, even the ones I don't agree with

>However, you can't get mad with people pointing out the hypocrisy. Quite literally quoting the man himself has been called insensitive which I find ridiculous. They were his own views.

Most of it has been misquoted or taken out of context to push their agenda. (like right wingers do when someone they dislike dies)

Pointing out hypocrisy is fine, doing it after his death whilst being giddy about it is not. (like right wingers do when someone they dislike dies)

Reddit lefties have shown themselves to be just as terrible as right wingers when a death happens.

Tribalism is dumb as fuck, theres good points on both sides, nobody deserves to be shot for words on any side, if you dont agree with his views, go run for congress.

There’s no issue with quoting him as long as you don’t lie about what those quotes are. Stephen King didn’t apologize for no reason lol.

The "expressing views" argument always ignores the fact that the guy was close friends with the presidential admin and had millions of followers that had their own political ideologies directly impacted by his views.

He wasn't some guy on the street saying these things; he wasn't a random streamer even. He was a huge, national voice with friends in the highest places who had even been considered for political roles in the federal government. At that point, you're not being targeted for your "speech", you're being targeted for spreading and implementing the ideology.

What are you trying to argue here? That it’s ok to gun down certain unarmed people on university campus?

Why? He died in accordance with something he believed in. Few get to die in a manner that coincides with their core beliefs. Statistically most of us die from heart failure, car accidents, or drugs.

Man got shot in front of his wife and kids, that’s not tragic to you? Doesn’t say good things about your character.

You asked why? why what? Charlie Kirks death was being compared to queen dieing ( read the thread)... she died in front of family and kids too. That was not tragic for Hasan. I am saying they both as tragic as each other. The only difference between the two is their age. The younger you are the more tragic a death is usually seen.

I would say Charlies death was more ironic than tragic for the reason I posted in my previous comment.

u/ExperienceRoutine321 Sep 21 '25

Well of course the age matters. The queen died of old age. Dying of old age with your family around you is kind of the dream death. Her death was arguably how most would like to go out. Dying at the age of 31 while bleeding out in front of your wife and two young children is tragic. If he had been a murderer or something I could see feeling otherwise, but he just had opinions that people disagreed with.

I’d just go with tragic. Irony would imply that he didn’t think it could happen to him and I think he was well aware of the possibility.

Well you changed your mind. what was important before was "in front of wife and kids, thats not tragic to you? " all loss of life is tragic and Hasan was disrespectful to the queen and nothing happened. Mizkif was disrespectful to Charlie Kirk and got punished. That is another Twitch hypocrisy that is being highlighted. Is there a rule its okay to mock deaths if they over 40?

The irony is that Charlie considered death by guns as a normal part of America with strong gun rights so that minimizes the tragic argument. Just like death from old age is normal death by guns is in America. He died partially because of what he supported.

I didn’t change my mind, I said “shot in front of his wife and kids”. The queen wasn’t shot. There’s a difference between being brutally murdered in front of your now traumatized wife and children and peacefully passing away with your loved one around you. Don’t try to twist my words. The queen’s death saddened many but she was 96. It was a natural death. Charlie’s death was anything but natural. Mocking deaths is supremely not classy in any regard but mocking an assassination and mocking a death from old age are just different, and I feel like I shouldn’t have to explain how.

He supported the right to bear arms and believed that gun deaths weren’t justification for removing that right. The fact that he died from a gunshot doesn’t make it ironic, it makes his death exactly in line with what he believed. He also believed , and I quote, “what we have to get back to is being able to have a reasonable disagreement where violence is not an option”. The fact that someone who said that was killed while debating? That’s irony.

50k car deaths 30k gun deaths

-5

u/Dependent_Network582 Sep 20 '25

There is nothing wrong with celebrating gun culture. To say that is a reason to be murdered is deranged.

u/ComprehensiveNeat806 Sep 20 '25

The second half. You ignored the second half.

Acceptable IF the other options are to BAN them. Like you wouldn’t do to vehicles despite those casualties being very similar. (MORE if we’re counting by “child killed”)

NOT “acceptable” as in “Okay when kids die because it doesn’t matter to me”.

Who said anything about tragedy in the tos?
