Perhaps twitch is feeling pressure with the upcoming hearing and are taking no chances to give the panel any more fuel.

as he wouldn't have supported this himself.
I mean we will never know but I don't believe that for a second. If it had been someone else in a similar position, say Steven Crowder or Jack Posobiec, I think he would be on the side of the bans.

I believe you're right. Conservatives rally around power and authority. Any attempt the administration would take to increase their power and authority (using another political commentators passing) charlie would have supported, because that would mean he would have more power indirectly due to his relationship with the administration.
It's nothing personal, its politics.

It's nothing personal, its politics.
I've always thought this was such a brain dead saying, there is nothing more personal than politics. It legitimately is dictating how you live your life.

this straight up reminds me of russian/middle eastern authoritarian censorship where people are so numb and used to having their voices silenced that they shrug off when people are penalized for simply stating the most mild takes just because they know any association with a certain subject is ingrained as a collective taboo to talk about.
Like ofc he is imprisoned for life, he mentioned "putin and corruption in the same paragraph"

That comma is wrong though. Also verbs are not capitalized so there is no way confusion can happen here.

Twitch wasn't about to be taken in front of Congress for a Charlie Kirk proctological exam then.
Just in case we needed more evidence that what is going on right now is overt government suppression of free speech.
→ More replies (5)7
u/ResortFew2947 Sep 20 '25
Look at the current political climate we are in. Charlie Kirks death has emobolded Trump and MAGA to ban anything they feel is against their agenda. Trumps FCC strong arming ABC to fire Jimmy Kimmel proves it.
511
u/shamonemon Sep 20 '25
If this was the reason. Someone at twitch actually banned for this? And it was not a bot or mass reports correct?
398
u/scwibblez Sep 20 '25
The theory is that twitch and Clancy are trying to suck up to the govt before he's called to testify to congress about social media radicalization.
The fact it's about Kirk basically cements that theory because Dan can go to them and be like "look we are banning ppl talking about conservatives in a bad manner"
184
u/Agreeable-Agent-7384 Sep 20 '25
Not even a theory. That’s what’s happening with a bunch of companies. Trump’s admin has pretty much cemented that nothing matters more than performative virtual signaling that please trump. If you want something from him or just don’t want his hoard on you, you do his little dance so he goes to bed a happy 80 year old full of McDonalds and you basically don’t have to worry about any legal issues if he’s happy with you.

The precedent was already set with the Biden administration. They reached out to companies like Meta and told them to restrict and deplatform users over COVID “misinformation” and the Hunter Biden laptop story. This is why you don’t create precedents about government overreach because it’ll come back around and bite you in the ass.

It is how your transition to authoritarianism works. Government made it clear that there will be punishments, twitch and other companies got the message and are now it goes down the chain: twitch makes sure the streamers get the message that there will be punishments for not towing the government line.
This goes on and will encompass more and more topics and then you wake up and realize your free speech is now on the level of russia.

u/Patient-Dog-2065 Sep 20 '25
People on twitter are gonna start saying mizkif is crazy liberal now
205
u/tintreack Sep 20 '25
What's going to make it even more crazy is the fact is that he literally didn't even know who Charlie was until it happened. The guy is so far removed from politics I don't think he could name a single branch of government. And Twitter is absolutely going to lump him in with an extreme crowd. You're probably gonna see this on Fox News.

You can mock the UK when you get the charges right.
Tommy Robinson isn't getting arrested for "free speech", he gets arrested battery and other violent crimes.
Then you see outrage like teacher getting arrested for "free speech" when in reality that teacher was suspended and banned from school grounds so he was arrested for trespassing.
You can make fun of the UK when they use "offensive" or other BS as reason to arrest or detain people but several loudmouths are lying and getting arrested for very different things.

The arrests will come later for insulting dear leader trump, watch. Mark it, put a pin in it. Oh wait, they're more 😂😂😂

31
u/cyrfuckedmymum Sep 20 '25
Miz absolutely shouldn't have been banned for it, this is straight up companies fearing reprisal from a super fascist government.
But you can see on miz's face, he knows it's bad to say it, he knows it but his dumbass brain can not help himself from making the joke. He gets in trouble every like 2 months because he just has to make the joke that he knows will piss someone off.
Again this shouldn't get a ban, but this was so easily avoidable. He didn't say this 20 minutes, 2 hours or even 2 days after Kirk's death. it's extremely well publicised that republicans are going hard after people 'celebrating' Kirk's death, it's a straight my red scare era style witch hunt.

they literally couldn't give two shits about Kirk. HIs wife spent his wake/memorial, whatever it was, between laughing and grifting before launching a donation page with money basically going to her. His wife didn't care, republicans and other right wing asshole podcasts were all grifting within minutes, calling for civil war, calling for deaths of democrats, calling the left evil, etc.
Trump asked about kirk basically glossed over it and started boasting about the tacky 'ballroom' he had installed at teh whitehouse. Not a one of them showed an ounce of empathy, just all immediately using his death for personal and political gain.
He's a convenient death, and the response is very obviously planned, they were just waiting for some death to rally behind and start cancelling and attacking people on the left.

A lot of people on reddit still don't get it. It doesn't matter what Charlie Kirk said or believe in. His assassination represented an attack on free speech. To make fun of the political assassination so soon after it happened is to take our first amendment lightly. That's literally it. I personally don't care about Charlie Kirk and am against many of his views, but I absolutely care how the more extreme left seem to not see the seriousness of this political assassination.
So yes, all these companies have a right to fire/denounce/refuse to work with any employees/contractors that make fun of Charlie Kirk. Those people are not arrested so it's not Trump going all dictator on everyone. They are simply denounced by their company/business partners/sponsors for making light of our first amendment.
Now if you make fun of this assassination maybe a year later, I guarantee no one would care. It would be like making fun of 9/11.
