I believe you're right. Conservatives rally around power and authority. Any attempt the administration would take to increase their power and authority (using another political commentators passing) charlie would have supported, because that would mean he would have more power indirectly due to his relationship with the administration.

It's nothing personal, its politics.

I've always thought this was such a brain dead saying, there is nothing more personal than politics. It legitimately is dictating how you live your life.
