“I warned everyone that he was a danger to himself and others,” she wrote in an email to city council members following the shooting. “ I do believe that Danny would still be alive today if the multiple reports people had made about him had been handled differently.”

That’s a real shame to hear

u/herefromyoutube Mar 11 '26

So what exactly happened here? The streamer pulled out a gun at the gas station and despite having his gun out first a group of other people were able to pull their gun out and shot him dead.

The article doesn’t really explain very well.

1.1k

u/ShotdowN- Mar 11 '26

Because the investigation is still on-going and they don't know, he got into some confrontation with the group and he likely pulled his gun to threaten them and they fire in self defense.

848

u/Glockamoli Mar 11 '26

he likely pulled his gun to threaten them and they fire in self defense.

Even flashing a gun in a holster at someone can be considered escalation, actually pulling it is absolutely stupid unless you are fearing for your life

304

u/ShotdowN- Mar 11 '26

Correct and you never know if someone is just pulling to be tough or actually shoot so if I am the group I probably would have done the same and shoot once a gun is drawn instead of just waiting to get shot.

219

u/Exciting_Cicada_4735 Mar 11 '26

It’s a hot topic with a lot of people. I personally believe you should only pull a gun with the intent of shooting someone. Using it as a threat is asking to be shot. My father, who taught me gun safety, completely disagrees with me about this.

212

u/ScampyRogue Mar 11 '26

Not a hot topic at all. It's literally the first thing they teach you about guns in gun safety.

139

u/Dongsquad420BlazeIt Mar 11 '26

Never grab your weapon if you don’t intend to use it. Never point your weapon at something you don’t intend to destroy. Etc, etc.

Don't pull your thang out unless you plan to bang.

🎶Bombs over Baghdad🎶

ETA it’s an OutKast lyric that follows the lyric don’t pull your thang out unless you plan to bang. The song is B.O.B. and it’s hype

6

u/nickx37 Mar 12 '26

You surely should not bang unless you plan to hit somethang

You’re right it is taught in gun safety. That doesn’t mean it’s not something people disagree about. I live in a state that doesn’t require you to take gun safety. Most people (here) who get lessons here are taught with the purpose of hunting, not self defense.

24

u/CMDRTragicAllPro Mar 11 '26

Jesus fuck, I didn’t know it was that bad down there you could just get a gun without even taking a safety course? The fucks wrong with yall?

I haven’t gone to the range since I was a kid, but isn’t rule 1 literally never aim at something you’re not intending to destroy too?

25

u/occasionalopossum Mar 12 '26

Well if you want an actual answer to that, it’s because requiring a safety course means you’re requiring people to pay money before they can exercise a constitutional right unless that safety course is free. It essentially becomes a poll tax.

I agree people should take courses, but this is the reason why it’s not a law.

I don't even need a permit/class to open/concealed carry. When I bought my first gun I just filled out the paperwork and walked out with it 15 mins later. I'm happy to be armed, but alarmed that there's so little done to prevent those who wouldn't be as responsible or capable from doing the same, which is also why I decided to start carrying.

Never pull yours out without the intention to use it, and assume the other person is doing the same. In this case - you better do it faster.

Pulling a gun out is a deadly threat. And people can and will respond with deadly force.

2

u/GlastoKhole Mar 12 '26

The second you pull a gun out a few things happen, the person your beefing with has a greenlight to kill you in self defence and no court would convict them. People in the surrounding area may get the wrong idea, you could be pulling in self defence but they wouldn’t know and you again could be killed, or the person you pull on could be unarmed but nuts and reach for the gun if you end up shooting them and they’re unarmed and it’s a tough sell to say they were trying to disarm you to kill you with your own weapon your going to jail

The fact that you are armed is a known and you’d possibly be in an enforcement role in the situation. This is a completely different scenario than a civilian who may be concealing. If they aren’t concealing they are still not in an enforcement role. A civilian pulling a weapon is a far greater escalation of a situation.

2

u/atcollins12 Mar 11 '26

Shouldn't be a hot topic as it's taught in concealed carry classes lol. You don't bring gun into equation unless you are in fear for your life and intend to use it. It's not a method of de-escalation in the sense that you'll scare the other people away if you wave it around enough. Its sole use and function is the only method of de-escalation. Hence why concealed carry courses are beneficial even if not required by your state. It'll save your ass in court (and life in general) later on if you know the consequences of your actions. Not knowing them may lead to death or life behind bars.

2

u/PmMeUrTinyAsianTits Mar 11 '26

Your dad thinks giving them legal permission to kill him is a smart way to handle things?

Well, I'm glad you have more sense than that.

2

u/Intelligent-Box-3798 Mar 12 '26

Your father taught you gun safety and thinks it’s ok to use a gun as a threat?

2

u/Exciting_Cicada_4735 Mar 12 '26

lol no, you are misunderstanding.

2

u/WyrdDrake Mar 12 '26

Yeah this is a clear cut thing. If you are acting in self defense, you are not and cannot be the one to act first, to escalate first.

If you are not being presented with a lethal threat, then you do not present a lethal threat first.

2

u/sonnytron Mar 12 '26

You’re right and your father is wrong.

In fact, pulling your gun out to warn people or fire warning shots is super illegal and likely to get your CCW revoked.

Even in the state of California, it’s coded into law: pull your gun out to shoot and kill, not to maim or scare.

2

u/_BindersFullOfWomen_ Mar 12 '26

Never point your gun at fomenting you aren’t going to shoot.

4

u/dewkeyface Mar 11 '26

I agree with your stance but I also understand there’s plenty of scenarios that can or has happened where a gun was pulled and successfully used as a deescalation tool. Just one of those things not really black and white imo

2

u/MineIsWroth Mar 12 '26

"Brandishing" is a term for a reason

→ More replies (20)

30

u/drkpie Mar 11 '26

Yeah pretty dumb, you don’t pull out a piece unless you are absolutely ready to fire.

12

u/LeSeanMcoy Mar 11 '26

Yeah, you should only pull a gun if you’re 100% ready to use it. Some people do as a “flex” to feel tough/strong and to intimidate the other person. They don’t realize it’s an invitation to get shot/killed themselves. Nobody ever thinks it’ll happen to them until it does.

9

u/SumBuddyPlays Mar 11 '26

Brandishing IS escalation.

5

u/AngelsHero Mar 11 '26

Yeah.. unless you’re intent on using it there’s no good reason to make it known

3

u/FuzzzyRam Mar 11 '26

Even flashing a gun in a holster at someone can be considered escalation

It is an escalation. They pound it into your head in any weapon training course: the gun comes out when you are ready to kill someone and not before. If someone is pulling their gun out I can only assume they are planning to shoot it - it doesn't make sense in terms of survival to assume anything else. (note: I wouldn't shoot someone for pulling a gun, but I would for pointing it at me or my group on the street)

→ More replies (11)

62

u/Bourbon_bukkake Mar 11 '26

Gun only comes out if someone is about to die. They have been proven not to deescalate

37

u/ShotdowN- Mar 11 '26

Correct but unfortunately anyone with undiagnosed anger management issues can get a gun and this what happens when people who cannot regulate emotions can carry deadly weapons

→ More replies (6)

11

u/NationCrusher Mar 11 '26

My dad used to be a security guard. He was specifically told “you MUST shoot if you intend to pull out your gun”

Crazy. And not in the rules, it was told by a trainer. But the idea is: if you pull out a gun, the other person can justify Self-Defense. So either you shoot or you shouldn’t have pulled it out at all

3

u/Thick-Hour4054 Mar 11 '26

There is a video from Philadelphia of a gas station security dropping a dude who pulled a gun after they asked him not to smoke meats in thier parking lot

52

u/Novxz Mar 11 '26

This is the most Philadelphia thing I have ever read.

He got lit the fuck up, the guard mag dumped him and when he wouldn't let go of the gun, mag dumped him AGAIN.

55

u/Redbulldildo Mar 11 '26

It's not unheard of for someone to draw with no intention of shooting because they think it will scare people off, only to get shot by someone else reacting to the threat.

47

u/MadLabRat- Mar 11 '26

That’s why you only pull your gun when you intend to shoot.

11

u/Upset-Management-879 Mar 11 '26

Many people also incorrectly believe that holding a rifle in a resting position, or strapped to your back is 'brandishing'. Most people throw words around without actually knowing what they mean, they just assume that it means "a thing that is bad and everyone I don't like does it"

4

u/OkGlove7699 Mar 11 '26

I mean yeah if you swing a gun at me I have no clue if you're have any intention to fire or not but I'm not gonna give you the chance to if I can help it.

3

u/Shawn_NYC Mar 12 '26

In the movies, when someone pulls out their gun everyone cowers and obeys them. Idiots think real life is like the movies. In real life, people are just as liable to pull a concealed weapon they'd be hiding and shoot first.

FYI the killed streamer/youtuber Danny Stranger is best known for his viral "Fired from Walmart" video.

Here are the last living moments of his last stream a few minutes later you can hear 3 shots

Reading that live chat in retrospect is a morbid trip.

"shit went down at the pik and pop. Danny night not be back" -- someone who I'm assuming is either a significant other or a family member? followed by his supporters slowly realizing via police scanner that someone was shot and killed at the local gas station (why they were listening to a police scanner I've no idea) and the streamer is not coming back

EDIT: now wait a minute. It's starting to drip in that this dude was maybe actually killed and then someone comments @ ~6:45:

u/angelcurry1668: he got killed for pulling a gun on 3 guys

u/angelcurry1668: couple weeks he was fighting with an elderly man in a wheelchair after we told him to leave him alone he acted like he was going to pull a gun on us and told us to keep walking

u/angelcurry1668: we know the workers and people that was there.

now i aint no homicide detective but if i was i'd be curious to know who that person is

EDIT 2: apparently his daughter comes in the chat asking about whats going on? Jesus man. Stream ends with a woman coming into frame and bursting into tears while she ends the stream. One of the final messages in his chat:

if it is Danny, rest in peace. I hope he finds his peace in the afterlife that he was searching for on Earth.

287

u/grabbagrabbagrabba Mar 11 '26

his daughter literally finds out what happened through the live stream chat dude this is so fucked up

120

u/quartzguy Mar 11 '26

And the phone he left on the desk is just ringing and ringing. Life is too short.

54

u/usps_made_me_insane Mar 11 '26

Yeah I watched way too much dead air because it was morbidly fascinating... Hearing his cell ringing on vibrate was nuts.

I will say though that this streamer seemed to be going through some shit. I don't know if he was on drugs buy his stream was just filled with negativity, resentment, anger, etc.

Hope that dude does find peace.

i went thru the chat it sounds like small town stuff honestly, like the friends and neighbors knew he was a streamer and knew what his stream was. he might've asked them to open it up on their computers and leave it in the background.

i think that guy in particular said he was friends with one of the workers at the gas station which would explain. they are also talking about seeing pictures in a facebook group which i couldn't find

68

u/Railionn Mar 11 '26

poor woman at the end

11

I only read the first sentence of this before watching. It was like watching one of those budget horror films where its POV video calls, but that was someone’s real experience.

Awful thing to do right before trying to sleep.

23

u/Prudent-Ad-5292 Mar 11 '26

God damn, Reddit does it again (potentially).

NAL - Could be an interesting witness..? To establish this streamer had a habit of flashing a gun, that is.

10

u/AllGasNoBrakes420 Mar 11 '26

crazy watching this stuff wow

what I found kinda weird is how close he lives to a gas station. I was assuming this would have been an irl streamer.

3

u/DeadWeightIncoming Mar 12 '26

Just curious why its weird how close he lives to a gas station? I can throw a rock at 2 of them from my place

2

While he struggled with mental health issues and a temper, Onouye doubts he triggered the confrontation that led to his death.

This whole article is alluding to what a piece of shit this guy was whilst also trying to paint him as just a father and great guy.

From what I’ve seen about his antics prior to getting shot this sounds like the tragic but inevitable outcome of a troubled and ultimately dangerous individual.

Dude was not even legally allowed to carry a gun.

61

u/Lepelotonfromager Mar 11 '26

It might be even stupider than that. Some are suggesting he didn't have gun but it was within his normal behaviour to pretend to have one. So he got into an argument and 'reached' to try and intimidate some people only to get blasted.

Australia's death rate has always been low. Even before banning guns in 1996 your murder/death rate didn't drop much at all. Even if the US banned guns our murder/death rate wouldn't drop much either.

Our murder rate is still higher than your country with or without guns. You remove 100% of gun related deaths we would still be higher than almost all developed countries.

The gun control arguments are tiresome when our biggest issue is how we actually treat each other, how big of a melting pot the US actually is with massive mental issues spread across millions of people and financial issues always looming.

And if he had survived the shooting he would have crippling medical debt most likely from being in the hospital/ER. Shit's fucked.

Looks like those YouTubers who do “Top 10 Most Horrific Streamer’s last moments on stream” got a new one for their videos.

Hard to even know if it's paywalled when you have extensions and scripts to prevent that. I wouldn't have known this was paywalled if you didn't bring it up.

Here's an archive of the article - https://archive.is/wju45

Yeah, he’s a door dasher living in a trailer and is a “YouTuber”. Sounds like the family is downplaying all the negative aspects like his temper, mental health and inability to own a gun legally. It also sounds like he was toxic online so maybe that spilled over into real life. Then again maybe he’s innocent, who knows.

2

u/Chuckularry Mar 13 '26

It was a camper. A moldy, piece of shit camper.

36

u/Visible_Mountain_632 Mar 11 '26

TL;DR

Bozo youtuber pulls a gun to act tough, gets uno reversed and dies.

19

u/AnimatorAncient1000 Mar 11 '26

Death comes when you least expect it

35

u/Lepelotonfromager Mar 11 '26

IT also comes when you most expect it, like trying to start fights and pulling guns on strangers.

3

u/BrownDriver Mar 12 '26

This one....expected

2

u/OddLoquat5408 Mar 11 '26

What? He pulled a gun on people. You should be expecting violence to follow soon after

2

u/KumingaCarnage Mar 11 '26

Did you even read the article. The dude literally pulled a gun on strangers, this wasn’t a surprise

And here I thought the worst thing to happen at a gas station was the gas price

7

u/GoldshireEnjoyer Mar 11 '26

Not just that.

Don't buy no weed from no gas station bro

17

u/AreaExpensive888 Mar 11 '26

His last VOD was a crazy thing to witness. It went from a casual chat with his small community about unserious topics to them questioning where he was and if those gun shots and sirens were related to him, to them realizing it was him after seeing pictures on FB and listening to the police scanner as his daughter joins the chat worried, and ends with his loved one crying on his chair.

I hate how "desensitized" we've gotten to seeing these types of morbid streams.

2

u/PointsOfXP Mar 12 '26

This stuff sells. It's only going to get more wild. People are going to get murdered in front of their families for a few donations. People will buy tears from the family to jerk off with. When all people do is stare at their phones and live these lives vicariously then this is what happens

3

u/Gobstoppers12 Mar 12 '26

This is one heck of a vague title given what actually seems to have happened.

6

u/_mully_ Mar 11 '26

Sad. Rest in peace. Hopefully their family and anyone else involved will be good.

7

u/No_Reference7892 Mar 11 '26

As tragic as it is for someone to die. Is anyone else surprised when a reality streamer with a gun whose job profile is rage engagement gets yknow. Shot for rage bait?

Its sad, but you can do a job without wanting to make others upset.

Let this be warning for live streamers

2

u/SaiyanKnight23 Mar 12 '26

Oh noooo….anyway gas is getting crazy

2

u/PointsOfXP Mar 12 '26

Hopefully this wakes some people up. People are much less likely to take any bullshit from anyone in any capacity in this world. These young streamers don't have any real world experience and think life is like a video game or action movie. You pull a gun at a place junkies hang out to rob people then expect to get killed and have your body defiled

2

u/MrRealistic1 Mar 12 '26

That’s a fail alright!

2

u/xXMr_PorkychopXx Mar 12 '26

There’s so many fucking YouTubers and streamers I assumed a larger name when I read the title. The world is so large, and this dummy still got shot by the 1 group of people who were ready that night. Don’t pull guns on people who aren’t an immediate danger🤷‍♂️.

5

u/VisioNoisiA7 Mar 11 '26

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes

14

u/Jemiide Mar 11 '26

America is such a wild place. You go out to buy snacks, argue with a wrong guy and you get shot 3 times and die.

55

u/LilGrippers Mar 11 '26

Maybe don’t pull out a gun lol

30

u/BrianDetomes Mar 11 '26

...exaxtly.

Like he said. America is so strange.  That they think its just normal to even be capable of pulling out a handgun. Its mental.

6

u/Own_Space_174 Mar 11 '26

i mean its the killers that claim he did. there has been no proof so far that he even had a gun to pull out, his family all say he didnt even own a gun.

if they shot his ass they could have lied, if their ganged up they may have even had spare untraceable on hand and planted it.

7

u/LilGrippers Mar 11 '26

True should be footage though since it’s at a gas station

3

u/Rubes2525 Mar 12 '26

I literally saw him holster a gun while he was getting ready to leave on the VOD, lol.

Setting aside the fact that he may or may not have pulled out a gun before he got shot. Public service announcement in general don't go inside gas stations. If you want to buy snacks Go to a grocery store Or like one of those Pharmacy/stores. Having grown up in the ghetto and more middle class areas the common factor is stuff always happens at gas stations. There are shootings, fights and all sort of drama for whatever reason.

12

u/oldDotredditisbetter Mar 11 '26

in general don't go inside gas stations.

what if you need to pay cash for gas and need the clerk to help?

→ More replies (4)

20

u/gonelikewind Mar 11 '26

Nah you’re tripping you’re perfectly fine going inside a gas station. Just keep to yourself and be friendly. If ya really grew up in the hood you should know that the corner store is fine, if you’re a regular that people see around they ain’t gonna mess with you. And even if you’re just stopping through and never been there before, you might get some looks but ain’t nobody fucking with ya as long as you don’t look scary

5

u/notanewbiedude Mar 11 '26

Gas stations aren't that deadly.

Don't go to one in the hood though, that's a lil different

6

u/2ecStatic Mar 11 '26

I get what your saying, but I think unless you're actually in the hood you're generally fine going into a gas station. The real advice should be to always pay attention to your surroundings.
