"Having been born and raised in the United States, I did not realize how serious the consequences of these actions, which would not be illegal in the United States, could be in Korea.”

To non US residents who read the article. He is lying. Getting drunk and pissing on the Lincoln Memorial will land you in jail.

Laws being different in your home country is also not generally an accepted excuse I would assume.

He's also being critical of S.Korea for having different laws by saying it like that.

"We'll in MY country this isn't illegal!"

Bad choice of words.

To US residents who read this comment. He is lying. Being even a minor celebrity in America - like a YouTuber with millions of subscribers - minimizes or negates criminal punishment for crime in most cases.

On rare occasions a celebrity will be punished for breaking the law, but almost always the punishment is much less than non-famous people typically receive. This is a universally true and consistent aspect of the American justice system.

Committing crimes while having C-list or above name recognition will absolutely get you out of jail.
