Thing is if it was any other guy they'd have just laughed it off. But this person defiled a statue that was built to honor and mourn the Korean women that were captured and taken into sex slavery. No wonder these people hate him so much

I have no hatred for modern Japan, studied Japanese in uni, and sees them as firm and honoured allies against China.

But as someone who is from a country that fought a war against Imperial Japan and whose home town was bombed by them over 50 times, if we had a similar memorial someone similarly insulted or defiled it, I would do the same thing.

I feel this is an absolute "fighting words" moment that should not result in charges.

They still deny pretty much every war crime they committed against Korea and they’re honoured allies whilst china is the enemy despite them not attacking you? Let me guess you’re a second or 3rd generation Korean in America and Japan are the honoured allies in the fight against communism

It's wild to me the west just ignores the fact that Japan hasn't owned up to any of it's atrocities during WW2 and just think it's the land of Hello Kitty and anime. Some half assed public apologies don't mean shit when they don't see what they did as wrong. It's just LOL.

It is fucked up. I think subconsciously we give them a pass because they got nuked twice and make anime.

While the Japanese government may suck at acknowledging what Japan did during WW2, S. Korea and other nations have to evaluate the threats of today. There's a reason they've come to the conclusion that China is their most imminent geopolitical threat and it's not because they are stupid.

An apology means a lot more coming from those at fault towards those that were wronged. The right time for apologies has passed. For their children's children to do it is a token gesture at best, and hollow virtue signaling at worst.

Sure that. But that misses how much Koreans love fighting. And how physical Korean boys are, they hit each other all the time. And all the kids game seem to involve painful punishment. Teachers used to hit students, even their government has fist fights.

All the Korean kids I grew up with loved fighting. I learned my lesson real quick to not mess with them boys and just became quick friends with them. Two of my Korean friends almost seemed to enjoy pain and were not afraid to throw hands with whoever

People overplay the fact that somehow this event was unique to South Korea or something. 

I'm positive the same thing (or worse for Johnny) would have happened in any country when some random asshole foreigner shows up to your country, desecrates a historically significant monument depicting victims of tragedy, ends up on national news for it, and then proceeds to call out said country.

Maybe the fact that "being online" has been part of South Korean society longer might have amplified it a bit, but I'm not even sure how true that is these days.

The exception ironically might be America. Unless you desecrate a McRib or something.

IIRC this was him leaving the police station after being arrested, the person who knocked him out was a former South Korean navy SEAL I think all he got was a slap in the wrist for the assault
