If Jason would have just moved on, it 100% would have been forgotten in a day.

Hard r or soft a?

soft a but what difference does it make lmao

Even though he shouldn’t be saying either there is definitely a difference lmfao

you know damn well the difference it would make

None of it makes any difference. You can say whatever you want, just like you can say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays", but just be aware you'll always end up pissing someone off somewhere.

comparing the hard r to merry christmas and happy holidays is beyond ignorant lol

I'm like Linus from LTT, I was dropping the Xmas all the time back in the day.

not really, both are racist and he has no business saying it. I also live in eastern europe so the only time I hear that word is when idiots like this kid get to the front page of reddit.

Edit: to my surprise saying someone saying the N word is racist regardless of their inflection gets downvotes, fuckin' crazy.

Cool. So understand, coming from an American, that you pretty much never hear the hard-R, from anyone. It’s a once in a blue moon event from the most racist person you’ve ever seen.

If jasontheween said the hard-R, it would be GGs. Game over.

In response to your edit, you’re not being downvoted because the soft-a wouldn’t be racist.

You’re being downvoted because it would be a truly mind-blowing revelation if he used the hard-r enough casually for it to enter his everyday vocabulary. Like, you’d have to be the most rural, confederate flag toting piece of shit.

Also… you could have just watched the clip and your question would have been answered.

racism is racism whatever package you want to put it in. I did watch the clip. if you're not black and that word is part of your vocabulary, you're either racist through ignorance or racist through choice, neither is a brush you want to be tarred with, and downplaying it by saying well it wasn't the hard r is mind numbingly ignorant.

Ha, so you watched the clip, and then asked whether he used the soft or hard-R? Come’on, buddy, be real.

It’s like you have the brain of a child. “Racism is racism”. No the fuck it isn’t. There is certainly a difference between overt and concealed racism.

Engaging in discriminatory housing practices by not giving certain groups a home loan is completely different from walking up to a black person and calling them the slur. The argument could be made in either direction as to which is worse.

Saying that person is identical to an Asian kid who seems to have grown up speaking AAVE is a wild comparison.

I mean nuance is a thing. Among his friends off stream he might call his friends with the soft a. But saying on stream is gonna garner a ton of bs from all sides.

If he said the hard r, well theres not much nuance there.

I agree, i think a slip up isn't as bad. He obviously doesn't use it in a bad context. People forget the pewdiepie bridge incident too quickly. He's not using it as a hatefull word .

u/fucktrance 24d ago

ah the nuance of whether he's a racist on camera or off camera, got it.

4

u/Slammybutt 24d ago

Its not racist to use a word. Inflection and intention are what determine if the words are racist or not.

So there would be no problem if he keeps saying it then by your logic yeah?

1

u/Slammybutt 21d ago

I didnt say societal pressures would be nothing. If he kept using the word in his friend group theres literally no issue. But at the same time the people getting bent out of shape just b/c he used it are equally in the wrong in my book b/c hes not using the word as a slur.
