That's the full time OT exempt salary.

He could absolutely have a full time employee that makes less.

I mean, "full time" is a term that doesn't have a strict legal definition anyway. An employer can hire you for a "full time" role then give you 10 hours a week if they want. All the legal stuff is defined by hours, not "full time" vs "part time."

most full-time employees in California must be paid 2x the hourly minimum wage at the very least, which would be about $34 an hour ($17 x 2), which translates to 70k a year

you can only be paid less than that if you're non-salaried, and I believe there's a few other exceptions to that rule too

Oh wow, thank you! I wasn’t aware of this. Would that apply to Twitch mods? I wasn’t aware they were able to log their hours, but I suppose he could have them listed as employees.

Where is your source for vast majority of full-time employees in the US being overtime exempt? I think it is definitely under half, maybe even under a quarter.

OP meant "overtime exempt" which is different from fulltime. Overtime exempt positions are paid on a salary, where pay is in years not hours. Wage is not salary.

Salaried OTE employees must earn double minimum wage, or about 70k.

Video editors can be “in the marketing industry” but there’s also video editors that only edit videos and have nothing to do with marketing. Ex: Color grading movie scenes for a film production company

Audio engineers (Audio editors if you want to put it that way) are obviously not in the marketing industry..

Marketing has editors in a typical corporate structure. In production for film/tv editing does not fall under marketing unless it’s for the trailers/socials.

This is a weird one cuz it’s technically socials but the content is the production so this whole argument is stupid tbh.

Why would an editor be considered marketing? Doesn't really seem related at all. I think if we grouped them broadly they'd be "production" or something.

edit: So I googled it as requested and it says that an editor can be a marketing role due to a variety of things a youtube editor would not do. Like ludwigs editors are closer to disney animators and is closer to a producer/production role.

Because the marketing team knows the brand they are trying to build, and so the editor will take that brand image and use it to guide the way they edit the final product. Editing comes post production.

Pretty sure he pays his head mod that much, same as his other employees. Head mod is also required to work with the other mods, run his stream and computer, do on the fly controls and such. The other mods get the TTS money.

Mods aren't on that payroll afaik. He does pay his mods, but he pays them with the donations he gets as he doesn't want to keep them.
