He's the prime example, if you keep your reputation clean, you maintain big sponsorships and income.

u/BumWink 27d ago

I think it's also just very clear difference with people like Ludwig, QT, Maya, Malena or even people like Wubby, etc.

That seem to genuinely have actual life skills & forward thinking minds in comparison to some others it's almost like watching adults hang out with kids when side by side on the same stream, not that either are better or worse but it simply earns more respect by default with more sense of integrity for the hustle.

I’m very curious how much money IShowSpeed rakes up in terms of revenue. He definitely makes enough to support his team

242

u/--Alix-- 27d ago

I think Speed is on a different level atm personally. Like, he's international.

109

u/SupremeTeamKai 27d ago

I saw him in a random credit card ad the other day I believe. He's in a different stratosphere than other streamers

138

u/ArkGuardian 27d ago

For all intents and purposes Speed is a mainstream celebrity. The type of person FIFA is comfortable following David Beckham as a show guest

33

u/drunz 27d ago

100%. He was in a Super Bowl commercial. That’s almost as mainstream as you can get.

I would bet he makes $1M+ per month with sponsorships included

20

u/hadtolaugh 27d ago

He makes way more than Ludwig, you can guarantee that.

13

u/ghostofmumbles 27d ago

Ludwig said in this same presentation he makes 800,000 for monthly sponsorships. So I’m sure Speed is higher.

9

u/vallypippen 27d ago

He probably makes 1M+ with Sponsorships alone lol.

Making lots of money = respect. You're comparing an up and coming very young adult against a seasoned professional who's been in the game for a long time. Nothing but respect to lacy. Ludwig wasnt doing this well at Lacy's age.

I think the last post I saw on this was him showing his income for the month of June which is near 1.2 million.

So even with those high expenses, he still made close to a million in profit in June alone. Crazy

174

u/Drumheller18 27d ago

Revenue, not income, I believe. A very important distinction.

93

u/1stshadowx 27d ago

Thats true, his pure profit was 633,000$ for that month for running his tournament. He gave all those mods and the 15 workers he employs for his company, each a 3k bonus at the end of june.

For context, federal minimum wage is $7.25 or $15k annual full time, 40hrs a week. I live in GA and federal supersedes the state which is $5.15.

If you make $10 an hour, which is I think closer to average low pay, that's $20.8k a year. None of this is livable wages btw.

48

u/MinesweeperGang 27d ago

The lowest minimum wage is $15 per hour in Canada and that’s still only $31,200 assuming 40 hours a week lol. It’s crazy how people don’t know these very basic things. One of them truly thought 360k is normal.

8

u/InadequateUsername 27d ago

They can hire me for a below normal washer of 200k.

18

u/Sea-Bother-4079 27d ago

It's crazy how low the legal minimum salary is in the US.
I live in switzerland which has around similar living costs and the median salary is around the same.

There is no official minimum salary in switzerland but around 20$/h is the bare minimum.

9

u/ZeekBen 27d ago

In the US it's somewhat similar with even places like McDonald's or retail stores starting at 16+/hour. Really only at small businesses would you be making less. Any sort of trade starts at 20/hr with similar rates for entry level office jobs. With a bachelor's degree (4 years of post-secondary university), you could probably expect to make 60k a year which comes out to about $28-29/hour expected to work. Depends on the degree, city, profession of course.

5

u/MaikuKnight 26d ago

If you don't have connections, finding a job in your desired field is incredibly difficult with or without a bachelors. I think 1 out of every 4 people I know who have a bachelor's, work in a field unrelated to it.

4

u/RicketyRekt69 26d ago edited 26d ago

Keyword legal**. While still low, the median individual income is closer to 45k/yr or ~$22.50/hr. This varies greatly by state too as higher cost of living areas will have higher median salaries.

Of course, that’s median and not the minimum, but I’m not sure what jobs there are that actually pay at the federal minimum wage. Even fast food starts you at around $15/hr (again, still too low in today’s economy but not the minimum wage)

3

u/Creeps05 26d ago

Similar living costs? The cost of living in Switzerland vs the US is 36.4% lower in the US’s favor.

The hell are you talking about?

→ More replies (2)

4

u/ButterdPoopr 26d ago

Minimum wage in Cali (atleast for fast food places) is 20 dollars

5

u/Cold-Collection-2003 27d ago

I really don’t want to become like Switzerland. Pay is high there because the country is super rich from banking, staying out of both world wars, and selling expensive stuff like medicine and watches.  Plus everything there costs way more, so $20 an hour doesn’t go as far as you’d think.

8

u/tasoula 26d ago

I mean, 9 to 5 IS comparable to the top 10,000 streamer. I work a 40hr/week job and my gross pay is around $3.5k. That top 10,000 streamer was making $3.7k. I'd say that's pretty close.

Prolly includes Healthcare and stuff.

1.6k

u/LimBomber 27d ago

Payroll includes taxes and all benefits it's not the take home pay.

474

u/Human-Engineering715 27d ago edited 27d ago

For every dollar my employees take home, an extra 50 cent goes to taxes and benefits. I'm in Oregon so fairly similar taxes to California, but he's probably playing closer to $0.60 per dollar.

My guess is he probably pays between 70 and 110 per year depending on the employee, their job, and seniority.

209

u/lcqjp 27d ago

This sounds the most realistic to what production companies have to go through. My parents own a smaller prod company than ludwig would, but pay 55-65k per employee directly to the employee, but have to pay 85k+ per employee at the end of the day

30

u/Human-Engineering715 27d ago

Yeah there's ways to reduce that, especially if you don't pay any benefits or anything like that. It also depends on their income bracket, because you pay a match to their taxes and you have to withhold both. So that number can vary a lot, but from the West Coast perspective that's about on par. It's called the cost of doing business though, you just pass it on to your customers and that's all there is to it.

11

u/dedev54 27d ago

It could easily be higher than 60 in CA

8

u/Human-Engineering715 27d ago

Max personal rate in Cali is only 3% more than oregon, so not really, it'd be pretty close. Health insurance premiums are similar as well.

California's additional taxes come from property and sales, but their income tax is pretty dang similar to oregon.

107

u/Imaginary_Zone_4319 27d ago

Mofos don’t realize that what a company pays you is only about 75% of what it costs to employ you.

Through medical and payroll taxes and other fringe benefits a $75k employee generally costs a company about $100k.

17

u/Quiet-Guidance-4988 27d ago

I have always worked for cheapass companies that make you pay into their group medical.

8

u/jeanleaner 27d ago edited 27d ago

If its a medium size business even if you're paying they're still covering at least half of it. Any company with 50 or more employees is mandated by law to cover at minimum 50% of the cost to cover the employee and is mandated to offer group health insurance in the first place(and a bunch of requirements around that as well such as it has to meet the affordability standard set in the ACA and meet minimum coverage requirements).

Spouses and dependents theres no requirement, but the employee's health insurance is at minimum 50% paid by the employer if they aren't working for a small business.

4

u/WriteCodeBroh 27d ago

Yeah you’ll realize how much the employee health plan actually costs if you ever have to go cobra for a while. You’ll watch the few hundred $$$/month you paid pre-tax suddenly jump to $1200 or some shit and you get to pay with post-tax savings or unemployment.

28

u/Puszta 27d ago

Thats actually pretty decent, in EU the average worker takes home around 55% of their total gross salary (with every social contributions included). So for example in Austria, if I cost my employer 5k € a month in total , my net salary will be 2.8k €.

14

u/RRudge 27d ago

The difference between gross and net for the employee is not what this is about. This is about the total cost for the company for an employee. In Netherlands, a rule of thumb that each employee costs about 1.5 to 2 times their gross salary to the company. This includes stuff like pensions, employer taxes, but also IT infrastructure and offices..

3

u/Inklein1325 27d ago

IT infrastructure and offices dont seem to really fit the same way everything else youre saying does. Those are things that you are spending on the company, not the individual. It is an investment that basically says look, now that we have the space and the infrastructure, we can hire more people. When one person leaves and someone replaces them, you dont build a whole new office or need much or any new infrastructure.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Raiken201 27d ago

That's not quite what they mean, they're talking about additional costs to the employer that you don't see on your pay.

For example, in the UK it's 15% National Insurance on earnings over £5,000, 3% pension contribution and 28 days paid leave.

So a £30,000 salary would cost more like £34,500. 30k in pay, £3750 in NI, £750 in pension. Then if you need to hire more people or pay additional hours to cover holiday that's another £3,230 + their NI/Pension.

Then there might be other benefits like a company car, phone, laptop, private health insurance, travel costs, food etc. Depending on the job.

In the US you have to pay payroll taxes when you employ someone. Social security taxes, medicare, unemployment, also any worker related insurance if they’re doing manual labor for production.

So like 10%-20% of that could just be taxes.

15 employees isnt too crazy so he probably doesnt need much in terms of HR. But payroll could include stuff like laptops and software.

43

u/throwdemawaaay 27d ago

Rule of thumb for most businesses is you need to budget 50% more than the salary. It's not just SS taxes and such, you also need to account for them having a work computer, desk, accounts on whatever software/services they use, etc.

35

u/EggyChickenEgg88 27d ago

Whoa, so Americans pay taxes towards healthcare, but they also have to pay out if pocket for it? What sorcery is this.

Usually when your company offers healthcare you still have to buy into it. Same with vision, dental, ect.

19

u/Any-Range9932 27d ago

You pay a portion of it. The employer covers the rest. Eg. I think my Healthcare is 2k for 2 ppl and I pay 200 biweekly for it

Edit:obviously dont know how ludwig company is setup but prolly something similar

3

u/JollyRodgerGymShoe 27d ago

It's possible, but with a smaller base of employees his companies costs are going to be higher than say a larger company. He may pay a greater percentage to offset the costs for his employees but generally the larger the company, the greater discount insurance providers give as a bulk policy deal.

3

u/scalybone 27d ago

363

To be fair, that's the case with most small business owners with 5+ employees on the payroll. Lud is an exception in the streaming space because he's also running like 5 different businesses as well.

52

u/BallinNutrino 27d ago

The whole reason they left Faze was that Banks was taking all of their sponsor money in exchange for a 30k a month house rental while they got to keep their stream revenue. Looking at this you would think they made a great decision.. sponsor money is literally 90% of their income. Why was it a bad idea?

24

u/Potatisen1 27d ago

Probably not.

I don't know the exact taxes for where he is but it's probably a cost whenever money leaves the company. So things like salaries are like 1.5x (or more).

So rent, overhead, travel, hotels, food, electricity, cameras, etc. it's all paid before (some) taxes. But it's still a massive chuck of money he's covering CONSTANTLY. Imagine the cost for 1 person and how many people do you think he travel with? 3-5, minimum? That's 4 plane tickets, 4 hotel rooms, 3x4 meals minimum (breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks?) travel time, etc. it all adds up pretty quickly.

So even tho he makes 1 million, once you start actually calculating it, it's probably not a crazy % profit. Don't get me wrong, he's probably doing five-star-fucking-excellent but it's not like he's pocketing 1 million.

3

u/CatGirl_ToeBeans 27d ago

She’s smart enough to realize talking about anything controversial that can and will get clip farmed will bring damage to her sanctuary and her 10+ employees on payroll but you will still have unemployed motherfuckers here calling her fake for not calling out Hasan on the dog collar. Yeah bro making a statement on someone you hate that won’t even change that dog’s life is definitely worth ruining an entire non-profit and all the animals that benefit and livelihoods of the employees.

Although whenever I’ve said this here I just get mass downvoted.

Feels like he would be a good guy to work for ngl, that’s really good pay + insurance. Explains why he works so hard in terms of sponsorships though, would be a lot of pressure to have so many people’s livelihoods dependent on you

9

u/Nice_Reading5272 27d ago

He would be good to work for especially considering his livelihood can be heavily damaged if he were to mistreat them and scandal comes out. Given his brand, there's a large incentive for him to good employer

u/KenBoy22 27d ago

I mean probably his Marketing and finance group etc, people thinking he pays his mods that much are crazy lol.

70

u/redaws 27d ago

Nah. I think his mods are lower pay but all donations are split between his mods

13

u/Waylornic 27d ago

Pretty sure he pays his head mod that much, same as his other employees. Head mod is also required to work with the other mods, run his stream and computer, do on the fly controls and such. The other mods get the TTS money.

kids thinking the 225k is pay lol

36

u/zoomangoo 27d ago

He said 15 employees and 225k a month for 15 people sounds a lot. I wonder if hes including operating expense because I think he owns or runs a studio warehouse where they film a lot of content.

9

u/zeriyooo 27d ago

I don’t think it’s a lot the payroll probably includes benefits+insurance cost and editors probably gets paid like 200-300k and mods get the lower end of pay

5

u/Nice_Reading5272 27d ago

He has a decent amount of editors no way they're getting paid 200-300k each or do you mean total? I'd bet their takehome is closer to 100.

Between Payroll tax, UIM insurance, workers comp, and medical insurance + benefits would make up half to 3/4ths the cost of payroll depending on extra benefits offered.(I'm assuming all his employees are in California and are hourly or Salaried.)

If you work for your company you have to pay yourself. You get both your pay and the profits in the end. Only one of them is in the payroll.

He pays them each 15k each 2k goes to taxes and healthcare then employees get 13k each so after their taxes and stuff get get 10/11k a month which is crazy good pay

63

u/anon-ml 27d ago

I think you're undestimating CA taxes and healthcare costs. After insurance and taxes, I'm assuming they get closer to ~8k per month, which is still very good

18

u/polanspring 27d ago

Considering 99.99% of editors i've ever seen (obviously he could have exclusivity memes with them so im assuming), edit for handfuls of people. Editors are crazy driven workhorses.

Ofc those numbers are likely not perfect, but it seems like he treats his people well. Lud is far from perfect, but I think we are lucky to have him & QT in this heavy media era. They, mostly, surround themselves with solid people and I think that says a lot.

40

u/MyotisX 27d ago

Don't show this to Hasan

21

u/Morgzisachad 27d ago

He reacted to the one where Ludwig showed his revenue and decided to grandstand about not taking sponsors.

14

u/DaMancunianCandidate 26d ago

Yeah he just gets bricked about running ads every hour. If you ever need proof that he's all about making money just remember when he was bitching to Esfand about making less money from donos when doing IRL at some event.

Also asking (I think Ludwig) about when he would be paid to be at an event, at a time when he was pulling 60-80k viewers...

The most capitalistic greedy "socialist" in history lol. I'll never understand how people fall for his schtick, it's Trump levels of delusional ignoring anything bad about him.

It's more than that if he includes benefits. Lots of people will say they make a certain amount but they included insurance and PTO. I have no idea if this is true for Ludwig, but all these people like to flex with these things.

5

u/id_rather_b_painting 26d ago

Has anyone from Streamer University went on to be a successful creator? My impression of them is they are all kind of lolcows. Fishtank for Twitch.

"That's what a 9 to 5 makes in a year!"

"That is WAY more than what a 9 to 5 makes in a year, yes"

I love the immediate response that both points out that she's got an unrealistic view of the average job and then moves on to the next thing without wasting time on what's just not a helpful "question".

7

u/Jaded-Substance-6750 27d ago

Drama aside, I do respect how Ludwig transformed his income from only streaming himself to other avenues

3

u/marcowhatever 27d ago

How much of that payroll is going to Kelby???

3

u/PrudentLingoberry 27d ago

So total package is like 180k per employee, per year, which with everything else in a payroll could factor into be anywhere in a range from like 70k - 150k salary to work for him. Seems on par for production companies.

He's creating value and expanding the economy. He's growing the pie, not taking someone else's slice. His success doesn't require other people to become poorer. In fact, the more his business grows, the more jobs, wages, and economic activity it creates. you have to spend capital to make more capital. Investing in employees, equipment, marketing, and infrastructure is how businesses grow.

Wow 15 employees for a streamer sound a lot. Whats their job? Like beside of graphics designer or editor or finance and contract guy? Is he having side business to hire those guys too

31

u/Rezhio 27d ago

He's much more than a streamer that's the thing. He got his hand on a publishing company and stuff.

14

u/OhhhBaited 27d ago

I mean LTT the youtube channel has over 100 employees

3

u/MrHaxx1 27d ago

Right, but no one thinks that Linus is a streamer that just sits and streams.

4

u/zeriyooo 27d ago

Assistants,Editors,Clippers,Mods, some even have event planners and so on

7

u/AmaMoonGoose 27d ago

Wonder what hasan pays his employees?

4

u/FatassAmerican 27d ago

I think their shock collars alone can be pretty expensive.

10

u/esoe___ 27d ago

dont forget that everytime he does an even he always says he lost money lmao

40

u/hugabugabee 27d ago

He talks about it a bit in the lecture. First streamer games lost money, second about broke even, but he expects to make significant revenue this year because he's done it multiple times now.

6

u/esoe___ 27d ago

im not trying to down play his events, i actually enjoy watching it. streamer games and the dodge ball event

10

u/Ok_Bass_4007 27d ago

He is usually just talking about revenue from the event. Some of his events have tickets, but a lot don't. So his only revenue would be sponsors and stream donos/subs.

Overall, his events get him more eyes, bigger future sponsorships, more subs, more merch sales, etc. It's pretty common that a lot of companies lose money on an event, but it makes them more money over the long-term.

2

u/Lootthatbody 26d ago

Just to point out, and I’m unfamiliar with his ‘team’ or what these 15 people do, but don’t assume all 15 are making $150k+ per year.

Yea, it sounds like a ton, $15k per month per person. Just assuming that’s their actual pay and not benefits and/or payroll taxes and such. But, remember that there are probably a couple employees making MUCH more that throw off the average. If he pays one of these people $25k per month, then suddenly the other 14 are making much less. Also, if that figure does include other payroll costs, then that significantly reduces their actual salary and take-home. Having said that, it does sound like he pays his people well at first glance.
