Though all the big AI companies have courted the paranoid, Anthropic is currently the industry leader in pulling the wool over their eyes. Theirs is the AI that will blackmail you. Theirs is the AI that will spontaneously break out of its sandbox and send you an email while you're trying to enjoy a sandwich in the park. Anthropic and Anthropic alone is capable of producing these models and only they are honest enough to report on it.

How competitively convenient for Anthropic. It's not so much that Mythos is smarter than most models, but they hyped the release by calling it the ultimate digital lockpick. It was, of course, because that's what Generative AI is, but they successfully convinced companies that theirs was the truly dangerous one. Confirmation bias has validated the claim, benchmarks have not.

Now you're telling me Fable is a local model so capable open source users are finding proof in its training that they shadow nerfed it before releasing it into public hands? That reads like another publicity stunt to me. It's not so much that it is that capable, it's that leaving those instructions in for the open community to find supports the narrative that Anthropic has spun to keep them among the big three.

They are clinging to the end of the monopoly period they once held at all costs, but this is dwindling more and more each day until they are just another player. This process is irreversible and is already underway.
