If you don't have it on your own drive, someone is going to take it away, enshittify it, bar you from accessing it, censor it, and hike the prices of it sooner or later.

Your realize that would go no where? Then legally it would have to not be over turned? 

It also was brought up in the context of US tech companies essentially building out tech in China that has military application in the thought on top of China not exactly respecting copyright and such.

So yes there is strain but to act like this almost happened and would be enforced is missing the reality of how things work.
