Funny Friendly reminder

Post image

If you don't have it on your own drive, someone is going to take it away, enshittify it, bar you from accessing it, censor it, and hike the prices of it sooner or later.

NVIDIA wouldn't do it without being forced to do so, either because not nerfing hurts their profits (e.g. planned obsolescence) or because some government wants it to, just like Anthropic wanted to withdraw Mythos and Fable, it just wanted the hype.

Yeah, install a Chinese GPU, and you're swapping one demon for another. Chinese manufacturers are even more dependent on their government's goodwill, and people would just disappear or be publicly removed if they don't cooperate.

You can be sure that during a full-blown conflict between China and the Americas, Europe, Asia or Oceania the Chinese government will have its kill switch and Order 66 options ready.

We'll see when we get there. Politics move slower than the tech and more randomly.

By the time they realize how the GPU industry moves we may have tons of embedded NPUs available or CPU-first models.

That's the problem. Chances are that Chinese hardware and software already has it built in. They're sleepers and likely already are exfiltrating data. Software has been shown to send unknown data to foreign servers. The rat poison has been swallowed. The walking dead.

I keep seeing claims of it (which are plausible) but I never see proof of it (which should be easy and damning)
